Full disclosure- I wrote this book for those reaching out for the archetypical soul, for someone who sees nature at heart of everything, for a reader who longs for something fresh and new. In this poetic, heart wrenching, fictional twist of truth, One Moon tells the story of two she-wolves whose bond fulfills the legendary Eureka pack's legacy to go on. Based on the story of Snow White and Black Spot in the PBS documentary Nature: Artctic Wolves.

One Moon is a beautiful interplay of poetry and prose that draws the reader in with a great voice and great storytelling. I could envision the Arctic tundra and the individual characteristics of the two she-wolves, Snow White and Black Spot, and the wolf pack they lead and protect. I love how Sheala Henke turned a documentary of this legendary Eureka pack into poetry, while also creating cinematic effects with her choice of words. Not having watched the actual documentary, I feel like she created it for me in the telling of her story.

I also love the voice of One Moon and how she weaves in and out of the story line, almost as if she's shining her light on the story without taking up too much space, just as the moon is for us, there and beautiful but not overly demanding.

Finally, I love the details and descriptions in the prose and poetry and at times could feel the harsh snow and the wind of the tundra just from Henke's use of words. I found the poetry fascinating in that each poem stands alone, but then they also build upon one another, so that the entire book becomes a large, overarching poem. The moon has its phases, but becomes so many different things that tie together through the months to becoming One Moon. I give this book Five Plus Stars!
