All around people fought to survive. Russell, Cathy, and their faithful German Shepherd, Max, just wanted to stay out of trouble. But trouble has a way of finding the desperate.
They needed gas.
It was their only option.
When Cathy got shot, things looked bleak. Russell would need to find a place to treat her wound, away from the thugs that hunted them.
A single mistake could get them all killed.
Not knowing what’s happened to Sarah, might just break Russell.
You’ll love this third book in the series, because Russell and Sarah’s battle to find each other takes some unfortunate turns that keep the tension mounting.
Derek Shupert is an avid super hero fan (Marvel over DC Universe) and lover of Science Fiction. Derek likes to spend his free time putting down on paper the stories that he has contained in his imagination. By day, he is an Inventory and Distribution Services Center Manager but by night, he writes. To date, he has published four books; two Sci-Fi, a children’s book and a technology consumer guide. He is currently working on two more books which should be available early 2016.
Derek lives in Sherman, Texas with his wife, children and various pets.
A very well written mystery thriller with many twist. Derek is going to be a super writer and one you will want to follow.Once I started on Dark Roads I could not stop. This is really a well written and entertaining book. When the writer can paint pictures in your mind then you know you have a winner.
Maybe I am just getting bored with apocalyptic dramas, but I got easily tired of this book. Especially following the character of Sarah, and her disastorous decision making, and drama. Some things didn't make sense really. She jumps into a garbage container and is covered with smelly garbage, and yet after this, some guy wants to rape her and kiss her and then she is rescued by a young woman and the mention of the smelly garbage just disappears completely. Later with Russell, he is rescued by Clyde and he retrieves a gun in the process, checks the clip for how many rounds are in the gun and uses it to protect himself initially from Clyde until he realizes he is a friendly. Then when they are going to rescue Cathy, Clyde asks if Russel has any kind of weapon and Russel says no. Huh? Where did the gun go that he had at the gas station just minutes earlier. Just 2 examples of loose ends that don't make sense later and there were many more.
The bottom line is this could be condensed into a series of 1 or 2 books and it would have been better done. The adjectives used in the course of this literature is over the top and the drama is also. Repeated capture and escape seems to drag this story on for both characters, for Russell and especially Sarah. I was kind and gave this 3 stars. I have already completed book 4 but I am thinking I may end there and not continue with this
As post apocalyptic stories go this series is a different story all together. A husband names Russell and his wife Sarah are worlds apart yet they cross path without even knowing. Helping save new found friends. As well as receiving help from strangers that don't even know them. If you are picking up this book before reading This series in order you will lose the feeling that you get from this story.
This series is absolutely riveting. There is full on action and nail biting moments for our unlucky characters. Russell Cathy and Max the dog keep running into people taking advantage of the grid being down, and Sarah's troubles have you holding your breath. Very interested in seeing what happens next. Great story.
The characters are vibrant and the plot is riveting and kept me biting my nails. My issue is with the writing. Lots of short, choppy sentences. While that makes it fast paced, it needs to be varied. I will continue with the series and try to overlook the writing style. Happy ☺reading 📚!
Derek Shupert is doing great. 3rd book and I want more. Russell and Cathy fighting back woods gangsters. Sarah still being pursued by two gangs in Boston. One of which killed their daughter a year before. Now she’s found out their good cop friend David is still alive. But two bad cops have grabbed her for one of the gangs.
This is a must read new series! If you are not reading it you are definitely missing out! Wow will Sarah ever catch a break? Will Russell & Sarah be reunited? Will Cathy find her daughter? Why was Russell’s family targeted? We will have to get the next book to find out the answers to our burning questions. I would like to say thank you to the author for releasing the books quickly. I am reader who reads all the books from a writer before I go to the next author. Anyway get the books and leave your reviews! This may well be the author’s best work yet!
Action is non-stop with good characters. Bothers me that so many cars seem to work and not all stores are cleaned out. Will continue the story even with the problems as the story is nonstop
Wow,what a ride book 3 is full of non-stop action. Wonderful characters to love and despicable characters to hate. A really great post-apocalyptic book. Sometimes hard to figure out the good guys from the bad guys.
This book was packed with edge of your seat action. I couldn't put it down and pulled a few late nighters knowing I wouldn't get a lot of sleep but I loved every chapter.
I loved this book by Derek Shupert. I also loved the characters. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I would recommend this book and all of this Derek’s books. I listened to this book on audiobook.
Russel has one objective, getting back to his wife Sarah. He and Cathy unfortunately run into trouble along the way. Great series I highly recommend it for those fans of apocalyptic fiction.
Dark Roads is a compelling addition to the Survive the Fall series, offering a gripping blend of action, character development, and emotional depth. While it may not introduce groundbreaking twists, it solidifies the series' appeal for fans seeking an intense post‑apocalyptic narrative. 4 stars.
