Oh my... The story starts off being interesting. The author writes in 3rd person and switches the perspective of the two lead characters from one paragraph to another, sometimes from sentence to sentence, which is annoying. Through the book it is pointed out that the female lead is a committed vegan. She is bickering about it, but the first moment it gets complicated, she eats non vegan food. Fine, I can ignore this two or three times. However, when Declan cooks dinner, she fusses about being vegan and then takes his steak. Not the buttered vegetables; no the steak. I can understand if the author doesn't like vegan people. However, she could have shown this in another way. If she wanted to show that Lydia is spoiled, there would have been other ways. Lydia doesn't comment, not having her lotions or hair products or whatever. She is only bickering about the (non) vegan food. It is talked more about in the book than that she is separated from her son. Strange emphasis on that topic. I stopped reading at Chapter 8.

Declan Part 2: Fantastic, great suspense, surprise, and challenges. Declan was always the right one for Lydia. I loved how he would do anything for her because of his love for and Jax. Declan and his brothers would do anything to protect the family and the women they love. All the characters are amazing. The men may be the heroes but the women are defiantly heroines throughout the stories. Lydia protects her heart from Declan because of how he left before and she didn't want to get hurt again but her feelings are so strong for him and she knows in the back of her mind that he is not doing everything because he feels guilty but because of his love for them both. It was a wonderful story and a great romance.
GREAT BEGINNING!! This story is AWESOME and looooong and also fun!! LOL! A romantic suspense that will keep you glued to the pages but, will also have you cracking up!! I found myself laughing so hard at one point that I had to stop reading to wipe my eyes. A GREAT start to a new series!!!
Great book! I did not want to put it down once I started the book. It was a very fast paced book. Very well written. I love how the author writes separate stand alone books, but they are inter-twined with each other. So glad I did not get caught reading at work when I should have been working.
Love this one so much! Give me some mystery and action along with romance and I am hooked. Lydia is living an awful life except for her son. Now she has witnessed something horrific and needs to run for her life. Someone grabs her and she is terrified. She realizes who it is and still terrified until he tells her he is under cover. His name is Declan. She goes along with him even though she does not know whether to trust him or not. Declan is there is keep her safe and bring her husband to justice. But he underestimates the attraction to Lydia. Now he has the challenge to keep her safe and keep himself in check. Think he can do it?
"He was feeling a bit sensitive and emotionally aware- not like him at all. All her could feel at that moment, when thoughts of vegan cooking and emotions raced through his head, was that he was becoming a giant pussy, and he didn't hate it.
DNF
This one isn't for me, but it probably will sit well for everyone else. A good on the run protective plot line, but I couldn't stand the toxic male lead. I had one foot out when he "didn't really think she was vegan" (like, how would he know?) and comments and actions after just left a bad taste in my mouth. (But I'm a sensitive vegan so no, the third time he's like serving steak after knowing her preferences wasn't amusing to me)
I only recently found this author, but have enjoyed her books until this one. I absolutely hate books that end with a cliffhanger and don't understand why authors have to use them. It seems to me that authors only use them to pull us in and get us to buy more books. I'm more likely to buy from an author who is loyal to their readers than with this trick. I live on a fixed income and have to choose what I purchase carefully. I've even had to stop purchasing some of my favorite authors due to the cost. If you don't like cliffhangers, don't get this book.
The book was captivating right from the start. Once I started I failed to let go of it. The story was properly written and I felt like I was part of the scene. However, I felt sorry for Lucy and Declan as they hide from the ruthless killer Esteban and his followers. Finally the killer was killed without harming Megan
I liked the book and gave it 5 star rating. I am looking forward to read more of your books
Enjoyable read. Lydia sees her husband kill someone and ends up going on the run with Esteban's right hand man who is actually undercover to bring down Esteban's entire organization. This book started out slow in the beginning. Lydia seem to be someone with high standards not eating certain foods and questioning everything Declan was trying to do to keep her safe. I like that Declan had enough patience at first, but then had to bring her down some notches. Overall this was a ok read.
Love Stephanie St. Klaire; don't like books where the story finishes in book two, but I've read many of her stories and they always end well, so I purchased a 3 book set with Brother's Keeper 1 -3 (Declan Books 1 & 2 + Liam). Book 1 is about Declan and Lydia (no spoilers) and continues into book 1.5/2. NOT a standalone (need to read the 2nd book to finish the story), but a HEA at the end of book #2. Lots of action, intrigue, secrets, tie-ins with the rest of the books in the series.
It would be good to read the McKenzie Ridge series first to better understand this series. Part one is the other viewpoint of keeping Lydia safe as well as her son and het sister. Action packed, it tells of the story between Declan and Lydia as well as the difficulty of being on the run when the bad guys keep finding you before you can take them out of the equation.
This thrilling story immediately captivated me and had me on the edge of my seat through a forbidden love, ups and downs, suspense, family drama, and more. I loved the raw honesty of this story. I loved the chemistry. I loved watching Lydia & Declan navigate a life on the run. I let out an audible GASP several times while reading this. And that speaks to just how well this author gets her readers wrapped up in the story. I did not see that ending coming. Talk about a plot thickens. I can’t take it!! My heart has been put through a roller coaster ride of emotions and then St. Klaire twisted the knife a little bit further...with that cliffhanger!! Thankfully part 2 is sitting on my Kindle app ready to be read.
This was really good, but spoiler alert I could not give it 5 stars because of a cliff hanger! Declan and Lydia's story should have been one full story. Declan is undercover and he has to help Lydia, if not.... she and her son could die. He will have a tough time getting her to trust him. Lydia has witnessed her husband murder a man, but he doesn't realize it...though his right hand man Jason does. Her world is turned upside down.
This was a great read. A roller coaster ride. So many ups and downs. This is the first book in the Brother's Keeper Security. It has so much drama. It is a witness protection type of book. The main characters start to get feelings for each other because of their proximity to each other.
Lydias son lives with her sister until the situation clears up..
To me the ending is a cliffhanger. I don't like them, but I want to know what happens so read on.
I downloaded the eBook because the value of the entire series was too good to pass up. Also, the last two novels I wrote were filled with crime and mystery, but I haven't read anything current from the genre. So, to keep current in the industry I'm trying to break into, I read The Fall of Declan and was quite pleased by it. From mystery, to romance, to suspense and high stakes, this turned out to be a decent read.
I love this book! Love Declan and his not much to say attitude. He was very protective and fell hard for Lydia. Lydia was sweet but kind of naive after being raised with money. Her whole world came crashing down and Declan was there to pick it up. I can't wait to read book two!
This is the author's first book that I tried. I have finished this series, all books are now out. It was amazing. I have now read all of her books and have loved them all. Definitely give this book a try and then you will be a fan for life.
Heart racing, action packed and emotionally thrilling roller coaster adventure filled with exciting charters, witty banter, thrilling twists and undeniable passion. Highly entertaining adventure that was so had to put down.
Declan was on the run with Lydia and her son trying to protect them from her husband and his men. Declan was retiring but he had to protect by going on the run. They were fighting their connection. With his brothers not his team because somebody is giving away secrets
I loved the story and the characters ut the explicite sex scenes are so unnecessary. With the right suggestions the imagination is so much more satisfying.
4.5 Omg 😳 this story had something of everything, love of cause, trills & spills, a traitor, anger, even a few laughs and annoying slowness 😡. But all in all a good story, looking forward to reading about Dec & Lydia’s HEA
Romantic suspense with a little steam. Declan is protecting Lydia while they run from Lydia's criminal husband. I wasn't sucked into the story and probably wouldn't continue it except I own them all, so why not? It's entertaining enough to keep reading.
Absolutely loved this book. Lydia and Declan are forced on the run because of what she witnessed. Always looming over there shoulder creates a bond of trust and lust. Great characters!
Well, she went through hell and back after witnessing her true husband. Declan was her real savior in more than one way. But she's made of stronger stuff, and he brought that out in her.
