In the book Desmond Cole Ghost Patrol: Beware of Werewolf, we go on an adventure with Desmond and his friend Andres. Although I have not read other books in the substantial series, I quickly adored the two characters. The book is perfectly suspenseful and scary, keeping the reader on their toes the whole time. This text is ideal for readers who are graduating from beginning readers to chapter books. There is a lot of character development and dialogue for early readers to enjoy. I think this would would be great for practicing digging deep into character feelings and character traits.

I found this series in my co-workers classroom library and was curious to read it.

Desmond and Andres are back with a furry adventure! There is something strange about the local dogcatcher--dogs seem to love being caught! Is he just a dog person? Does he have them under some kind of spell? Or is something spookier going on? This is Kersville after all, and supernatural things happen every day.

Another fun Desmond Cole adventure filled with lots of adorable (and some not so adorable) pups. This series is a perfect amount of text for kids just starting to move from beginning readers into longer chapter books, with quick stories filled with just the right amount of spook to keep young readers engaged (but not scared).

“Full moons always bring out the dogs.”

Desmond and Andres encounter a puppy in the park that seems to be on its own. Desmond wants to help the puppy find its home, but the puppy runs. Desmond and Andres give chase, but when they catch up to the pooch, it has been scooped up by the dogcatcher. There’s something really weird about this dogcatcher, though. For one, all the dogs in his truck are very calm. And the puppy seems to be so happy that the dogcatcher has caught him.

Desmond is determined to investigate to make sure the puppy is going to ok. And, just like always, there’s something really different about this situation. It is Kersville, after all.

My students love this series.
