Orphaned at a young age, Alex Hardesty was raised by her Navy SEAL uncle. As a military brat, she naturally gravitated to the military life.
Two years ago, as a former National Security agent, Alex nearly died in an explosion during a covert operation. Now, working in the private sector, she’s been assigned to track down hostages in a place to where she’d promised herself she’d never return: Afghanistan.
Thirsty for revenge against the deadly regime that has caused trauma-ridden flashbacks, Alex vows to eliminate the source of her nightmares once and for all.
But on her first day back in the field she has a collision with a blue-eyed, US Navy SEAL that kick starts her heart, adding more drama to the already dangerous situation. Though she’s surrounded by friends and colleagues who care about her and have sworn to protect her, Alex fears someone within the ranks lacks trust and loyalty.
US Navy SEAL, Lt. Commander, Marcus “Ace” Chambers knew from the moment he first saw Alex Hardesty that she was special. But this is no ordinary woman. While she is beautiful and intelligent; she has a target on her back, making her the most wanted woman in Afghanistan.
With danger lurking behind every corner can Ace and Alex balance the romance building between them while preventing further harm to themselves and their team before it’s too late?
Jaime Lewis, a USA TODAY bestselling author, entered the indie author world in June, 2020, with ACE, the first book in the Trident Series.
Coming from a military family she describes as very patriotic, it’s no surprise that her books are known for their accurate portrayal of life in the service.
Passionate in her support of the military, veterans and first responders, Jaime volunteers with the Daytona Division of the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, a non-profit youth leadership development program sponsored by the U.S. Navy. Together with her son, she also manages a charity organization that supports military personnel and their families, along with veterans and first responders.
Born and raised in Edgewater, Maryland, Jaime now resides in Ormond Beach, Florida with her husband and two very active boys.
Between her day job, her two boys and writing, she doesn’t have a heap of spare time, but if she does you’ll find her somewhere in the outdoors. Jaime is also an avid sports fan.
Wow, I can't believe how quickly this book went downhill.
I was interested in the first half. We had a smart, fiesty heroine (Alex) that was not only contributing to but leading a mission. A hero (Ace) that was interested but kept it on the DL because he didn't want to jeopardize the heroine's job or her professional image with his team or the higher-ups.
However, around 65% a big plot point was concluded and I went to sleep for the night. I woke up the next day and continued reading only to find it was a completely different book.
The last 30% of the book is trival nonsense that doesn't add to anything. None of the rest of the book matter at all!
Some other things that bothered me: 1. This book could really use an editor. There were quotes before someone actually started talking, quotes that were never closed, incorrect sayings, etc
2. There are a lot of references to Alex's adoptive dad and her "uncles," to the point that I was sure this was a new spin off series. To my surprise, there is no original series that I could find. At least not belonging to Jamie Lewis. I wonder if this is something like the spin offs from Susan Stoker books by other authors that feature her characters (mainly Tex). This aspect was confusing to say the least.
3. There is no way you don't know who the bad guy is. No one says it directly, but you know. If this was real life, that guy would've been under investigation after the first incident.
4. The POVs switch so quickly. Sometimes we get a paragraph or two before we're switching again. There are also more POVs than necessary in my opinion. We just need hero, heroine, sometimes bad guy. Why are we hearing from her dad, her best friend? Maybe that's just my preference.
5. The first sex scene is at 90% and it's fade to black? There was enough use of graphic languages and details in previous scenes that I thought for sure it would be on page, but no. There is a quick little recap the morning after but... what a strange choice.
Even though there was a massive preview into the next relationship in the epilogue, I will not be continuing the series.
What an excellent read! First book of this series, it is full of action, intrigue, and hot Navy SEALS. Alex, who happens to be the daughter of a Commander, unknowingly ends up targeted by a lethal terrorist. There are twists and turns in here keeping me eagerly turning the pages. Ace's SEAL team, along with Alex and a few others, are tasked with rescuing five hostages over in one of the sandboxes. There's instant chemistry with these two, though they don't act on it, which is refreshing for me, coz, really, they have more important matters to deal with, without complicating or compromising the mission, more than it already is. There's a bit of torture in here that had me holding my breath and cringing, trying to read faster so it would end. Phew! Alex and Ace are both kicka$$ characters and I so enjoyed reading this fast-paced, stand alone journey. I'm now ready to read the rest of this series, as they all sound fantastic.
I would have liked to give this book a three but settled with a two for the following reasons. I liked the main characters well enough and it was refreshing to have a strong and smart heroine in Alex. Although her “gooey-ness” around Ace was over the top considering how she raised by her SEAL uncles, IMHO. There was a good premise but the storyline felt a bit rushed in many places. The writing itself needs improvement in the plot development area and a stronger editor is definitely needed as there were so many grammatical and punctuation errors that I lost track. Formatting was pretty rough too. Overall, it felt like a first or second draft with much potential. Hopefully, these issues will improve as the series progresses.
Such a great military suspense story! Loved the characters and will definitely read book 2, Potter.
The only thing I felt was missing was the sensual/passionate sex scene, the build up was there and I fully understand the slow burn because of the storyline but at 90% we had “closed door romance” *big sighhhh 😞 I enjoy military romantic suspense with open door romance.
This book had a great storyline filled with suspense, loved Ace & Alex, and hope to see their relationship progress throughout the series
These books came up on my kindle as books I would enjoy. And I will say I was loving it. Ok I will just say what I have to say.....where the neck is the sex?!?! You would have yourself a 5 star if you added the sex scenes. So for those of you who love a great military romance but don't want the steamy sex, this is the book for you!!
I really like romantic books about SEALS. They make the best book boyfriends. This first book has all the elements needed for a great romantic suspense read. Action, family and sexy times. I'm into reading the whole series
I read the blurb and then the book. Plot was great and realistic. Build-up to the sex was long and arduous, then flat. It could have been written hotter considering that sexual words were used throughout the story. I enjoyed all of the action and suspense. I guess I just didn't get all the Build-up to sex, then glide over when it happened. I've already got the second book, and now know what to expect in the romance dept. I know it will be well written. It is a good series, worth you time and money.
This is the author's first novel and my first read of her work. It is a standalone and ends with a HEA. It is written in third person from multiple POV.
Alex is a government contractor leading a mission back to Afghanistan to rescue some hostages. She is a former NSA field agent and has been chosen because of her language skills and her knowledge of the terrorists and area involved. At her disposal is a SEAL team and a couple NSA agents (along for the ride). Ace is the Lt. Commander of the SEAL team working with Alex. When they literally run into each other before realizing they will be working together, there is an instant pull between them.
I loved both of the main characters. Alex in particular is beautiful, smart, determined, feisty, and tough beyond comprehension. She has been through, and goes through, some very difficult things in this book. Yet she continues to fight: to win, to survive, and to get her HEA. Ace is a wonderful hero. It is hard to go wrong with a SZEAL. The strength of character required to operate at those extreme levels make the man interesting. I adored his protective and comforting nature when it comes to Alex. They hold off on pursuing much more than kissing for most of the book. Part of that is due to circumstances and part is due to choice to not be together like that while on their mission. When they do finally come together it is in a fade to black scene. Normally, I prefer a much steamier read, but I have to say that I didn't really miss the details in this book. The emotional connection between the characters and the events of the story left me feeling like it was complete.
The story itself is intense. There is a lot of danger and tension as the team searches for the hostages and avoids death multiple times. I loved the portrayal of the team and life on FOB in the sandbox. The author has done her research and I felt like the military aspects of the book, so often done wrong, were done very well. I especially loved the interactions of the members of the SEAL team. There are themes of double agents, spies, treason, and manipulation in this book. In addition, the terrorists are especially vile. Alex's will to survive and the respect the SEAL team gives her as part of their team and family is a big part of this book. The epilogue sets up the next book nicely and I am excited to read it. Because the secondary characters are such a big part of the book, I feel like I know them and I want to see their HEAs happen too. (A previous reviewer had mentioned editing issues. I did not find that to be true at this point so I believe those have been fixed). I liked this book and felt like it was very well done, especially for a debut. I can't wait to read more of the series.
TW: Gun, knife. & war violence, torture and near rape, and themes relating to grief, survivor's guilt, and PTSD.
I want to thank Jamie Lewis, author and Goodreads First Reads Giveaway for the eBook Kindle copy of Ace ~ Trident ~ Book 1 that I won in the giveaway.
US Navy SEAL, Lt. Commander, Marcus “Ace” Chambers is in the sand box as Afghanistan is often called when he ran into Alex Hardesty in a crowded mess hall and caught her before she fell. He didn't expect to find the love of his life on a mission. He fell for her right that unexpected moment. He is the leader of a SEAL team and finds she is the lead of his mission.
The mission is one full of betrayal by agents working with the head of one of Afghanistan's local gangs, a mission seeking to find five US contractors that were not taken in a raid that stole a large shipment of arms. The team and Alex were given incorrect information, one of the men working at the base is the son of the gang leader interfering with information gather and not sending it to Washington.
Warning the book has violence with beatings so it is very realistic. The story also had humorous moments and often made me smile.
I love the two strong characters of Alex and Ace and the support of their team and how they all worked so hard for a common goal. The happy ending was just a bonus for a great adventure book.
This book is filled with dramatic suspense; with explosions, kidnapping, and murder, at every turn. There are just as many hot, protective SEAL's and an extremely intelligent heroinne determined to get revenge and justice for her team. Several sleepless nights were spent devouring this book! It would make a fabulous movie!!
Intel analyst Alex Hardesty has been sent to Afghanistan to assist in finding five kidnapped men and hopefully the terrorist organization who killed five members of her team two years ago. Working with a navy SEAL team is a bonus, especially when it turns out several are great friends she hasn't seen in quite awhile. Another one is a guy she literally ran into in the mess hall. She's still a little shocked at the sparks that flew between them.
Lt. Commander Marcus Ace Chambers and his team have arrived in Bagram to assist in recovering a group of kidnapped security contractors part of a team hired to secure a weapons facility. Then he finds out the gorgeous woman he met in the mess hall is not only the Intel Analyst he is going to be working side-by-side with but she's also the commander’s daughter.
I really liked this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series! There was a good mix of story and romance with lots of build up. My only complaint that keeps me from giving it 5 stars was the lack of editing. I can usually ignore the occasional grammatical error or awkward phrasing because hey, we're human. But some of these were frequent enough that they were distracting. Lots of strange commas and missing words or awkward/wrong phrasing. "Aiding and embedding" is just incorrect and I think that's a simple thing to research and correct. I think just another set of eyes or another read-through would have helped! The informant was obvious from the beginning to me but I don't think it was meant to be a "whodunnit" book and didn't ruin the story for me. I love a good military romance with a strong female character and men who respect her strength! Overall a great start to a series and I enjoyed reading it!
Alex was orphaned as a small child and was sent to live with her sudo uncle, a Navy SEAL and teammate of her father. So raised among SEALs Alex joins the NSA. While in Afghanistan on a mission, her whole team was killed and she was severely injured. Now two years later, she leaves the NSA and works for a private company. Her mission is to go back to Afghanistan and locate missing soldiers. The SEAL team sent to work with her is her uncles team, two of her childhood friends are on it. Alex bumps into a gorgeous guy and sparks instantly fly. Ace is the commander of her uncle’s team and can’t believe the beautiful woman he ran into was his boss’s daughter. Looking for the missing soldiers puts them together but someone out there wants Alex dead and they’ll take whoever gets in their way too.
Such a good story. Action, suspense and sexual tension. Enemies are all around. First time reading this author but it definitely will not be the last.
I just loved this book, Alex is a successful and determined women with some sass and it about to meet up with her past as well as meet her future in this dangerous mission. I like how Ace and the other guys are all confident, know what they are doing with a bit of alpha and a lot of heart so you can't help but fall in love with them. This book will suck you in from the get go and have you guessing who is betraying them all, as well as biting your nails hoping all the team get out alive along with hoping with everything going on Alex and Ace's budding romance will survive also! There are plenty of emotions to go through like reliving Alex's past, tense times as the team investigate sites, shock and fear as well as hope and happiness and plenty of laughs. I can not wait to read more in this series!!!
Alex was in Afghanistan on a mission when the house they were in exploded killing all her team, she was the only one to survive only because she had stepped outside to take a phone call but she was badly injured and taken to hospital. This happened two years ago and now she was going back and she had a job to do. Ace bumped into this beautiful woman in the mess hall and he had a reaction to her that he had never had before only to find out later that she was there team leader. This is a brilliant book and i really enjoyed reading it with all its twists and turns along with danger, betrayal, secrets and the hot chemistry between Alex and Ace. This is the first book that i have read by Jaime Lewis but not the last as it was well written and a real page turner.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
OMG FANTASTIC BOOK!! (and it's a series) Absolutely loved this story. Alex was a strong character. Despite everything that happened to her, she is positive, loving and loyal. Ace was, a Navy Seal and he knew Alex was the one for him and did everything to support her. Ace's teammates all thought Alex was great and they excepted her as part of of the team. I loved that her two best childhood friends were also part of the team.
The story kept me reading until I was finished. The story was exciting from the beginning, truthfully, I didn't want it to end. Government agencies with their own secret agendas and finally the head terrorist himself. There were twist and turns that kept you interested. I would definitely recommend this book. I have already preordered the next one.
What is hunting Alex? Who is hunting Alex? Will Alex survive the terror that is about to engulf her? Who is Ace? Will Ace save Alex? Will Ace reign in his mouth? Will Alex be able to make through the process of making it through her PTSD? What happens at Christmas? What is wrong with her best friend? Why won't Tenley tell Potter that there is a target on both of their backs? Who has the ability to t the dark and dirty deed and at what price? Jamie Lewis has put an equal balance between all actions that happen to Alex? Fantastic story, reminds me of what we experienced when my son made it home after being retired medically from the Army and 3 tours of Iraq. Thank you guys and gals for your service!
Ace is the Lt. Commander of a SEAL Team. They are assigned to assist a civilian expert, Alex, in the recovery of five hostages taken by a terrorist the US wants badly. Alex has the most information and speaks more of the area dialects. Only three problems, Alex is Alexandra, her NSA boss is coming along, and she is the Commander's ward/niece. Oh, and Ace falls for her. Odd things start happening right away. She's shot at in camp. She becomes a kidnap target. When she gets home it doesn't stop. High action book, sharing across characters-which is real. Already bought whole series.
This was a great beginning to a new series, and a new to me author. Ace and Alex literally bump into one another their first day in Afghanistan, and the encounter stays vividly in their hearts and minds. When they discover that Ace and his team are the crew support the operation that Alex is heading. Having had experience with the terrorist responsible for the kidnappings, Alex is dead set on finding the man responsible for the deaths of her whole team. As Alex, Ace and the team work to rescue the civilians, they also find themselves trying to uncover a deadly mole. So much happens in this book, not the least of which is the developing relationship between Alex and Ace. A very good read!
I enjoy reading this book. There action, turning page suspended, betrayal and great strength. The writing flowed easily and effortless and the characters were strong, compassion, brave and honorable. There heart pounding suspense and great skills and abilities of the Navy Seals to capture evil. I loved the beautiful and strong family dynamics of the Navy Seals. This book moves fast and present many twists and turns. I would have like more lovemaking sense written with move details. Overall a great read.
WOW, this is my Newest Favourite Author and if the rest of the series is this good l'm in Seventh Heaven. Jaime Lew is has done what l didn't think was possible, the story grabs you by the short hairs and hangs on until the End. Lol But seriously if this is what is available in coming books then l'm Not going to be sleeping much until l inhale them ALL!!! I Highly Recommend this book to Anyone and Everyone who is a lover of Bloody Great Military Romance. Take a chance on Jaime Lewis, you'll be damn over the moon that you did. Cheers
Ace is the first story I have read by this author and I enjoyed the storyline, characters and the author's style of writing. Ace is set at a fast pace from beginning to end. I felt I was with the characters in each scene. Ace the male lead is one sexy alpha but he has sweet caring side to him as well. Alex the female lead is one tough character and I absolutely loved her. I can not wait to read Potter's. I only wished the author gave us more love scenes between Ace and Alex because their chemistry is off the charts. Happy Reading!!!
Ms. Lewis captured my attention and kept me captive throughout the entire book. The supreme strength, loyalty, love and courage shown not only by Alexandra or Alex but the Team was awesome! I felt as if I was there in the middle of action as well as feeling the heartfelt emotions of all. Alex's background with the help of her "uncles" made her the badass she is!!! I can't wait to continue reading this series! Congratulations, Ms. Lewis! You are now another of my favorite authors along with Susan Stoker ❤
This is a new series and a new author for me. Thanks for a great story with wonderful characters that could make me smile and even drop a tear. The human side of the book made me think and appreciate our military and all they do. I know it is a fictional story-line but the writing is excellent and depicts what that life overseas might be. Ace and Alex gave a lot in the book and so do our Navy SEALS. The way sensual scenes were written will make me get more books by this author. I recommend this book and then the readers will know what I mean.
Ace is the first book in the Trident series and also the first book that I have read by Jaime Lewis, but after this one I am hooked. Alex Hardesty was raised by her Navy SEAL uncle and it shows in everything she does. She is not afraid, is independent and doesn't let anyone run over her. Lt. Commander Marcus "Ace" Chambers is also a Navy SEAL, loves his team and loves his job. When he is put together with Alex on a mission he cannot help but admire her. The pull between them is strong, but first Ace has to get the target off of her back. Great romantic suspense, loved it!
I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters Ace and Alex are both independent and as this story unfolds Alex is determined to find the person who killed the rest of her team a couple of years earlier. Ace is Navy Lt in charge of finds hostages in Afghan and along with his team ends up working together with Alex to find the hostage and the people responsible for capturing and holding the hostages. Alex realizes that the team she was with prior and their deaths are connected and along with are knowledge and Ace’s team they work to find and release the hostages.
Ace is the 1st book in the Trident series and I believe it is also Jaime Lewis's debut novel, and for me it's a wow! Ace and Alex's story is a terrific read, great character's and a really interesting storyline, I dont want to give any spoilers so I will just say, it's full if intrigue, suspense, passion but most of all hope, love and family. I'm excited to follow Jaime Lewis and her series!
I was pulled right in to this story from the beginning. I love Ace & Alex and their journey to love. I see some people complained about no back story to Alex's upbringing but the mention of " Uncles" that raised her. I feel that there was enough explained to move on with the story and don't feel it harms this story in any way. I shed a tear here and there over the emotional scene but loved every word. Going to start the next book in the series.
This is the authors first book, and she did a great job with it. The storyline was interesting, the world building was good and the characters both main and side were developed enough to keep me interested. I love the brotherhood sense of loyalty and friends that are family feeling. Ace and Alex have great chemistry, and while I normally enjoy on page sex scenes, the fade to black was not enough of a disappointment to stop me from reading the next book.
