Violet and Jack have been invited to a masquerade by someone who doesn't name himself and gives no details other than all the guests are coming under the same circumstances.
They know something is afoot, so they aren't even surprised when there's been a murder. What surprises them is the invitation to all those in attendance to solve the crime.
Book TWENTY-FIVE in the Violet Carlyle Mysteries. Are you ready for the roaring twenties? You’ll love Vi, her patient husband Jack, her indulgent twin Vic, and their friends. For fans of Carola Dunn, Jacqueline Winspear, Georgette Heyer, and Lee Strauss. A light, cozy mystery with a fun peek into life in the life of a bright young thing. No swearing, graphic scenes, or cliffhangers.
Good heavens wicked step-mothers and former lovers are treated kindly when the quest is to figure out who committed a long ago. Vi and crew are tasked with solving said murder and in the course of it dealing with the memories and sadness brought up from those memories. Another coup--heck I even figured out the bad guy this time!
One of the best of this whole series. Agatha Christie is cheering from her grave. A masked party, but who invited them? And the guest list is rather odd. As are the locked doors. A decades old mystery and it's up to Vi and her friends and family to solve it. You won't put it down until you're done. So grab a cup of tea or a ginger wine and sit back and lose yourself in this terrific read.
Vioet Carlyle, in the first book of the series, was alert, sharp, independent, and intelligent. Since then, in every succeeding book, she's become, whiney, stupid, dependent and is constantly cowering somewhere from events.
It's All Hallows nite Vi, Jack and friends are invited to a masked mystery dinner. Surprisingly Vi's and Jack's father along with the group they socialized with when they were young were also invited. This turns out to be not your normal fun, mystery dinner party. A long ago unsolved disappearance of a young woman haunts the party. Let the hijinks begin!
Interesting book. Hard to believe that the murderer was a quiet type lady, but even today you don't know what a person would do after being abused and jealous for years. I recommend this book as it is not exactly like other Violet Caryle books. This was interesting.
Love this series and this is particularly good! It is more serious than some but extremely interesting plot and development! All the usual family and friends are involved! Enjoy.
I live a quick read that keeps you turning pages. Beth Byers brings you into her books with fabulous characters, the 20's setting is realistic, and the plots are awesome.
It’s sort’ s like being locked in an escape room and a long past murder. I truly enjoyed this one and all the players past and present for this whodunnit. Kudos on this book. I loved the ending, so apropos.
One Of her best yet, and a welcome change for ne from the rather meandering previous few books in the series. I didn’t skip a word in this one! Excellent read.
This was yet another strange murder mystery and one decades old. The plot is easily followed, the gang of characters once again fly into the breach, and the mystery is resolved. I definitely recommend this book.
Some of the series have felt like they were very similar, but this one was back on track with an original storyline and much more similar to what made me start reading in the first place. Enjoyed the process and the bit of a twist.
This is a great mystery of a cold case murder, a lock in with no way out .The only way the puppeteer will set them free, is to solve the murder mystery.❣️💃🏻😈😢😈
It started really well. But then it all went sideways. We were just told who the murder is and there's no real reason for it. Plus the buckets of misogyny.
An All Hallows Eve party like you’ve never seen! They thought they were just going to another Halloween party…but, without costumes? The strangest party they have ever experienced….and it starts with a mystery involving Violet’s father and Jack’s father and a club from years ago. It’s a tad gruesome in one part….but, I still recommend it. So curl up in a comfy chair with a cup of tea and get to solving the mystery.
This wasn't that good to be honest. I have followed this series from the beginning and all through there has been clues to follow and some investigation done; but this one didn't really have that. Just hey presto! it was solved. Rather disappointing really.
I love this story. Bringing together Violet's & Jack's parents and family friends. Ghoulish, but good. I must admit that I am ready for more silly fun. I hope the next book has a little more humor.
