As an LSU alum, I thought I knew much of Coach O's story already: the guy who didn't end up sticking at LSU as a player, bounced around as a coach, failed at Ole Miss, got robbed at USC, and was hired at LSU more out of convenience than desire after losing out on Tom Herman.

Flip the Script filled in the gaps - I learned a ton about Coach O as a person: his struggles, failures, motivations, thought processes, and ultimately, his vision for coaching and leading a top college football program. Bruce Feldman is an excellent writer and was able to keep Coach O's authenticity intact while still organizing and formatting the story itself.

While the book is structured primarily into two halves (pre LSU and post LSU), I enjoyed the way Coach O was able to reflect on everything from the beginning of his playing days to the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Flip the Script is a worthy read for all football fans, especially those who recently got to know Coach O from ESPN or the soundbites and are interested to learn more about the man when the cameras aren't rolling. I will say as an LSU Tiger, the details about his leadership of the program and the 2019 season alone make it worth the read.

*As a note, I did receive one week early access to read Flip The Script from the publisher, NetGalley. I finished the book the day before release.

For college football fans, this is an easy book selection. But this book deserves a much broader audience. It’s more than football. It’s about believing in a bigger plan, refusing to let others define you and never giving up. Through replays from his life, Coach O gives a genuine look at the trials and tribulations of following a dream. The journey is not always glamorous or perfect. In fact, he shows it takes hard work, discipline, dedication and commitment. Coach O highlights that no journey comes without heartbreak or disappointment. Remaining true to ourselves and acknowledging our strengths and weaknesses is part of the game plan. He gives us hope that we too can chase a dream and make it a reality. Coach O is sincere, relatable and inspirational. 🐯 As a native of south Louisiana, it’s cool to see local people & places I know referenced in this book. (Many thanks to the publisher for sending me a pre-release copy.) #geauxtigers

I received an advance copy from the publisher. This is an easy read. This book could not have come out at a better time. The 2019 season was magical. It was thrilling to watch and even more fun to be a part of. I knew of Coach O’s coaching background, but it is more interesting to hear it from his perspective. Some of it I heard before, but it was better coming from his voice. This book is like having an all access pass to the greatest LSU football season of all time. His story is inspirational and exactly what we all need to hear. Coach O is a man of his word. I hope to have a front row seat as he continues to flip the script.

I did the audiobook and no coach O didnt read it. Only complaint was they would have quotes from other people and they just didnt stand out as quotes.
Ok i know him and his wife divorced BUT he mentions her throughout the book. She soothed him, took care of all the kids, supported him AND he couldnt even thank her at the beginning or end of the book. How can you write a book about being a man, honor etc and not include a big thank you to my wife for raising my awesome kids who he did thank. If you are not an Ed or football fan I wouldn’t recommend listening or reading this book.

Football knowledge helps, but is not necessary. I skimmed the football speak, it was preventing me from seeing the big picture. I absolutely love and respect Coach for not using foul language. That makes this a book for all ages.

Coach does not mince words. Success is not easy, and he points out all the requirements necessary.

Inspirational.

I’m a sucker for feel good sports/championship stories, and this book was such a good read! I have so much respect for Coach O grinding to become a National champ coach and for giving credit where credit’s due. I think this book proves again that character always has a place to create greatness on the field. Thanks Coach O!

Orgeron has a really incredible story to tell. Most of the pre-Ole Miss stuff is covered in Meat Market, but there’s some great new info on what’s gone on at USC and LSU. I thought the Joe Burrow stories were a particular highlight and hope to read a Burrow autobiography some day.

Am not a big college sports person but really enjoyed this book. I liked the story of Ed Orgeron's rise thru the ranks. Reading about another persons life is so interesting and Ed's accomplishments are amazing.

Not an intellectually challenging book to read... a good summary of a coach that went thru some difficult times to then win a national championship. I wish he had more crazy stories. Ok read...probably a good book for a LSU fan to have in their man cave...

I enjoyed it, mainly because of my connection to LSU. It felt a little disingenuous given the awful 2020 season plus the sexual assault scandals that rocked the program.

Flip the script is a fenomenal book in my opinion. It shows how with effort and dedication everything is possible. Ed Oregon went from nothing to everything, but most importantly he always stayed humble. Flip the Script also shows why family support is so important in life, your family will always be there for you no matter what. I trully recomend this book. Even if you are not a football fan you will enjoy this book.
