Absolutely enjoyed those 12 horror stories set in London. Some have a historic reference, some are modern. If you know London, you'll identify most of the locations the author has chosen for his tales. They all come up with a great twist and give you an unique London feel. Favorites? The Shadow of the Ripper (of course Jack is involved here), The Highgate Vampire (I can highly recommend visiting Highgate Cemetery and fancy a pint in The Flask), A Doctor Calls (great old fashioned story about a mysterious book), The Frog God (if you like collecting antiques this is your story) and The Golden Saxophone (wonderful location in London's "Tin Pan Alley" near Charing Cross Road). This was a great collection. No fillers, just perfect stuff for London town. I liked every single story here. Highly recommended!
I listened to the audio version of this book on Audible. Having come across this book, and author, for the first time only recently I thought the quality of the stories and the atmosphere created by the pitch and tone (and varied accents for the characters) in the storytelling was absolutely fantastic. There are few authors (in my opinion) that as well as write the tale can also tell the tale and enhance the story even further, rather than detract from it. Hats off to Tony Walker, I’m a new fan. I’ve already purchased Cumbria Ghost Stories and will no doubt read/listen to many more in the future.
I really enjoyed listening to this short audible book! The stories were great, definitely held my interest, and the author, as the narrator, did an excellent job. If you love London and scary stories, this one is for you. Highly recommend!
I thoroughly enjoyed the London Story telling. Some very wow endings in such great detail. I've always enjoyed these kind of stories. Great read for sure!
Some of the stories are quite formulaic and almost variations on each other, many are fairly predictable, but there are some spooky moments and original ideas in there so it gets 3 stars from me
The stories are a mix of horror and ghostly tales with a common theme of location, London. They span the ages and the twists are sometimes telegraphed and other time a genuine surprise.
Tony Walker's delivery is good but can be a little soporific. None the less a worthwhile journey, particularly if you are familiar with the London locations.
Good creepy stories. This collection has a nice variety, lots of ghosts but also monsters, curses, and unavoidable fate. Well written. Despite the brevity of each story I felt like I got a good feel for the characters and the terror they felt. The author hit on two of my personal phobias. I liked that a few of the stories were spooky but happy events.
