Armed guards, a mystery illness, and an enemy trying to take out his patient were more than a desperate nurse bargained for…
Thanks to his good-for-nothing brother, Andrew needs a job. Fast. He’s left with no choice but to take the mysterious nursing position he’s offered.
They warned him Caleb would be a difficult patient…
Shifters aren’t typically affected by human illnesses, but something’s broken through Caleb’s supernatural defenses, leaving him weak and desperate for answers. When his wolf finally tries to break free after meeting his new nurse, Caleb hopes that he might be saved from whatever illness is slowly killing him.
As Andrew races to learn what’s causing Caleb’s condition, he may lose more than his heart. Because Caleb’s diagnosis? Wolf.

Add two parts sass and one part sweet and you have Poppy Dennison to T—sweet tea that is. Raised by a gaggle of Southern women who love reading and have backbones of steel, Poppy was brought up to see the best in people but always speak her mind. Mix it all together, like Grandma’s famous cobbler, and you get a sassy, Southern lady with a quick wit and loads of charm, who will soften any blow with “Bless your heart.” Her books reflect her small town roots, are filled with all the comforts of home, and come with side dish of spicy, because that’s the way she likes it.
Meh. Too insta, which I generally don't mind in "mates" books, but it didn't really work for me here and the issues with Danny and Mario were resolved way too easily. It all felt very superficial.
I much prefer this author's newer stuff. Her Chosen One and Hellhounds series are both fantastic.
I guess this was ok. It wasn't that deep of a story and had a lot of eye rolling moments. It was pretty far fetched and insta-love without any real feeling of the connection.
Not even close to what I am used to from this Author.
I enjoyed reading this story a lot. For a rather short novella, Macy Blake sure fit a lot of stuff into the story without it feeling rushed. Andrew is working as a private nurse while he looks for a permanent job. He soon realizes his patient is different, very different.
There’s mystery at first, then bad guys show up with Andrew’s brother and threaten them. I liked how the story progressed, not giving too much away, too fast. This was a great introduction to Macy Blake’s writing and I look forward to reading more.
Insta-love/insta-lust, shallow, plot made no sense, both main characters are boring and, I don’t know if its because I am a nurse myself but I find Andrew highly unprofessional lusting after his patient while he is pale, sweaty, feverish and borderline dying. No. Just no. The medical side of things was glossed over big time which part of me is glad. I am sure that no research would have gone into it and it would have sucked big time as well.
This is a rerelease of one of the first books by Ms Blake and you can actually tell it’s an earlier work. While the story itself was ok, the magic wasn’t there in the execution. I liked Caleb and Andrew but wanted more connection between them. Not sure about one of the bad guys and his reasons but it is what it is. All in all a quick read
Turns out I had actually read this way back when. I vaguely remembered it as I was reading. I think that is ultimately the main problem with the book. It wasn’t very memorable. I liked both Caleb and Andrew as the MCs. I just thought the story itself was just okay. I’m still not sure as to the motivations of the antagonists of the story and the author never gave us any insight as to how Andrew’s brother got on after the events of the story. All in all, it was okay just nothing special.
Gotta say, not one of my favorites from this author... which I usually love her stories. But, seriously? On death's door one day and humping like bunnies shortly thereafter? Yeah, not going to say it was the worst, but it certainly could have been better!
Quick and easy read with no real surprises or tension. The love and attraction is insta, which I usually don't mind, but in this case I didn't feel the attraction. I mean, Andrew is a nurse, Caleb is being very sick and yet somehow they kiss? Even though Andrew needs the job desperately but apparently doesn't believe in acting professional? All the elements for a good wolf story are there. Caleb and his dad acting alpha and being sort of protective, family comes first motto, mates... It just didn't come together, there was no deeper attraction, the alpha protection thing was pretty bad and a lot of the time it was like "well yes this might be not what you're used to, but you're coming in our world, so deal with it or get out."
And a few days after they meet, while according to Andrew Caleb is only getting more sick, Caleb is able to get out of bed and go to Andrew's apartment? Not to mention it's never explained how Caleb survived the cause of his sickness, how he was suddenly sort of able to shift with Andrew there, what the enemies wanted, how they got hold of Daniel... And then I'm not even talking about how pack dynamics work (actually, where is the pack even? Is there a pack?) What the rules are, how it all works...
Too many questions, not enough answers and the story itself is to my opinion mediocre. Not all bad, but not a new favourite either.
I was quite unhappy with this book :(. There was absolutely zero chemistry between the main characters. It also seemed to me like the times when they got "intimate" were really poorly chosen and that just made me not enjoy those scenes at all. Another thing is - Caleb has Andrew as a mate, but no one tells Andrew? Does not make sense. I mean overall, they should be more transparent with him if he became part of their pack!!
And lastly, I didn't like how the relationship between Andrew and his brother was portrayed. Andrew pretty much "hates" him from the beginning and says how bad of a person he is with all his vices, but we don't actually see anything that shows that Andrew cares or tries to help (hello, rehab???). What we are told is that right after high school, Andrew just disappears and tries to ignore his brother without actually BEING THERE FOR HIM. That was a big no-no for me. It is understandable that he is upset and unhappy but we didn't see any of the conflicting emotions or love or anything in the book.
This is a rereleased story written under this authors other pen name from a few years back. I could tell it must have been one of her earlier works because it is flawed in a few different ways.
The story was ok. I like the human gets thrust into shifter world but the whole plot was very irritating. Here this guy is dying and he didn't tell his dad relevant info!? The brother thing made me want to scream. The nurse lusting after a patient would have made more sense if the fated mate thing was explained better but the author never even says they are fated! But I think the worst thing about this story was the complete lack of world building. Does this family not have a pack? Is it not a community? Why don't they have a shifter doctor? You know that the story isn't amazing when it doesn't hold up to the scrutiny of basic questions.
Overall, this book was an ok shifter story if you aren't bothered by plots that are flawed.
I finished this book in late January...and then forgot about it. Which says it all right there....
Andrew is wary about his new private nursing assignment. His agency has sent him to care for a rich recluse’s son, Caleb, and Andrew knows there’s just something....all wrong...about this place, and these...people. But he can’t deny his attraction to his gorgeous patient. Caleb is kind and funny....and Andrew becomes increasingly determined to find out what’s been making him sick. However, when the truth about Caleb and his family is revealed, Andrew must face a whole new reality.
So there’s just not a lot of story here. Andrew is supposed to nurse an ailing Caleb while Caleb’s father tries to find the villain who’s trying to kill his son. Except that as soon as Andrew arrives, Caleb mysteriously starts to recover...with little to no explanation. And even when Caleb is eventually forced to reveal his secrets, Andrew certainly takes it all in stride.. barely makes a ripple in his day.
It’s a nice romance, but an abundantly miss-able one.
I like reading about medical personnel, especially in combination with shifters. Seeing the Wolf and man wearing a stethoscope on the cover of the book. Macy Blake is a new author to me, but I was in mood for another shifter tale. Wow I can't believe how much I enjoyed this book. It seems to be a standalone, but it would be wonderful if there were one or two sequels.
The book was entertaining, interesting, and surprising. The MC (Nurse) had some steeliness to him. That arose to his & the shock of some of the "people" he dealt with. Otherwise he was a compassionate person (with some snarky & humorous thoughts). The relationship with the other MC was sweet, scary, uncertain, promising, and surprisingly quick. Family betrayal is a them throughout this very enjoyable book.
I read the author's other series, all... three of them? I was super surprised to like the ones where the MC had 8 boyfriends, I think. The other series was a start for it and I liked it as well. Liked...
Which may have been the problem, I guess - while those books were entertaining, kind of liked the style even if it was better with some pauses in between because of some repetitiveness or tropes or themes, it never crossed very far from "really good". And this book, from what I read, is her earlier work. And despite what some might think, authors are not hatched completely perfect or completely developed, so those earlier works... are kind of like the playground she used to play on before she created her most popular stuff. And maybe it's just me but it shows.
Nice. Short. Simple.
Recommend. In a moderate, if you like the author way.
Which can be worse, the patient or the overprotective parent of the patient? Andrew has been put in an impossible situation by his brother, Danny. He feels obligated to help his brother satisfy his debts, but working as much as possible, as many jobs as possible. Sometimes, he needs to take a job, no matter the risk just because he needs the money. Andrew's introduction to Caleb, his patient, was satisfyingly dramatic! He put on his nurse superhero cape, and did his thing. Watching their story evolve was funny and fun. Alphones as Caleb's Dad, was epic. The canvas upon which this story was drawn is stormy dark with the light shining through. Nicely done. The characters were great, the storyline fantastic. I enjoyed the story and wanted to read more. Well done!
Being at the wrong place can be right! A job that turns into a future!
Andrew took a nursing jib and it leads to a shock he was not ready to discover. A betrayal by his brother has reinforced his inability to trust. Caleb is the sick patient that has his life fading away. A nurses comes in and gives him hope. The journey of discovery, paranormal, family betrayal, threat of death and so much more. This was a shifter story with drama & romance. MM Romance V2 S2 more book reviews stop over to @my2centsbooklo her I look forward to you to joining myself & other book k version, authors, editors.
Another great read from Macy Blake! This is the story of a guy who agrees to be a personal nurse for a mysteriously ill patient. As he tries to help him he may find out more than what was wrong with him.
I always enjoy Macy Blake’s work. I have loved everything I’ve read of theirs. In fact if there is something I haven’t read I would be surprised. Still going to look though lol.
I didn't think this was up to MBs' usual standard. I thought that the writing in this book was stilted with some of the sentences being unduly cumbersome and confusing. There was no depth to either the characters or the storyline, it was all very disappointing.
Andrew and Caleb were fun to watch fall in love, I think that even though it was fast they had a slow build up at the same time that made me see that it made sense their feelings for each other. And the drama!!!!!
The storyline has a low stress, simple plot, where everything works out OK in the end. A minimalist shifter worldview is provided with minimal character development.
Of course Macy Blake has created another outstanding book. Andrew and Caleb are great, but I think it is papa Alfonse who stole the show for me, he has that whole Daddy vibe.
It was a good shifter story enjoyed it and it kept me entertained. Tbh I’ve read a lot better from the author the Hell hounds series is outstanding sadly this isn’t .
