From a small town called Port Landon comes a beautiful sweet romance about finding a place to truly call home. Paige Henley has always dreamed of owning a bakery, but her busy life in New York City has never left much room for following her heart. So, when she’s given the chance to move to Port Landon to set up her own bakery, she’s ready to take a leap of faith and make her dreams a reality.
When single dad and local veterinarian, Cohen Beckett, enters Paige’s bakery for her grand opening, there is an undeniable connection, and Paige can’t help but notice an unfamiliar feeling in her chest.
But ever since his wife’s tragic death, Cohen has built his own defenses around his heart. The last thing he expects is for a stranger to ignite a spark he thought was lost forever.
Yet Paige has a kindness the whole town finds infectious, and soon Cohen realizes that her gourmet cakes aren't the only thing impossible to distance himself from.
Will Paige be able to fulfill her dreams and find love in her new home?
Caroline Flynn is a Canadian writer from Northern Ontario. She doesn't have to imagine what small-town life is like—she lives it every day. Caroline loves everything book related, whether it’s reading them or writing them, and she's the dog-mom of an eccentric brindle boxer named Jazz (who makes a special appearance in The Forget-Me-Not Bakery!). Caroline uses her coffee addiction to fuel her writing passion, and the truth is, she can’t imagine devoting her life to being anything other than an author.
‘The Forget-Me-Not Bakery’ is the story about Paige Henley who leaves her uptown life in New York to manage a bakery in the lakeside town, Port Landon. Cohen Beckett is a single father who remains heartbroken over his wife’s death eight years past her death. He is an affectionate and overprotective father to his exuberant, smart son, Bryce. Paige finds solace in the homely little town with residents full of big hearts. Cohen and Paige meet and sparks fly. But will their love last?
The push and pull between the lovebirds worked well. They had good communication and were open to each other. They slowly but surely fall in love. They both choose to express themselves in actions rather than words unlike Paige’s boss, Alex. The best part about this book is the descriptions throughout the book. The social atmosphere and sightseeing views were easy to imagine. Some of the instances felt as though the reader was part of the journey that the characters were going through.
Chapters are written in Cohen’s and Paige’s points of view although in the third person. Most of the scenarios were extremely emotional. The second half of the book picked up in pace and solemnity. ‘The Forget-Me-Not Bakery had fluffy cupcakes with angst toppings. While the story was engaging, it was hard to empathize with the characters and the gossipy chatters' atmosphere of Port Landon. There were not many details regarding the background characters, enough significance for their stories. Details on character flaws would make the book more real and authentic.
This book is recommended for people who are in for a lazy, sweet romance. ‘The Forget-Me-Not Bakery’ would leave readers as satisfied as they would be after having countless deserts preceding a good Italian meal.
I loved this book so much! A small town romance with a bakery and a doctor (sign me up!). This book was written so well and if the cover won't make you hungry then the story line will make you wush you were in love. Caroline Flynn really bought it with this book
Just finished reading THE FORGET-ME-NOT BAKERY by Caroline Flynn. I received this ARC from HQ Digital via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Official publication date is today July 15th, 2020.
A cute read. Baked goods with a side of romance.
In a gossipy small town called Port Landon, newest resident Paige Henley has just left the big city of New York behind, to fulfill her life-long dream of owning a bakery. When single dad and local vet Dr. Cohen Beckett arrive at Paige’s bakery for her grand opening, her dreams start to change.
But Cohen has built a wall around his heart, after losing his wife 8 years ago and raising his son Bryce on his own. The last thing he expects is for a stranger to come in and blow up his life in the most exciting ways, that he didn't believe were possible. Will Pagie be able to break down his walls with yummy desserts?
Definitely a one time read for me. Wish there was more romance throughout, not just talk about it and dragging it out to the last 10% of the book. Characters could have also been more fully developed as well. But definitely a cute, and light read.
Ms. Flynn pens a sweet romance about a widower who has survived the death of his young wife, leaving him with a two year old, and a woman who fought to rise in her field in New York City only to realize that was not how she wanted to spend the rest of her life. Paige's cousin Allison has tried to get Paige to move to the small town she now lives in, with little success...until now. When Allison tells her she can have the bakery she always dreamed of...just a few doors down, Paige decides it's time and buys it, praying it will work out. Her move to the small town of Port Landon is a dream come true. The town eagerly supports her and she's very happy there. Adding to her happiness is the widower and veterinarian Cohen Beckett. They get close despite both being wary, and then have a terrible misunderstanding, one that's eventually rectified to end in a HEA for both, I requested and received a NetGalley ARC to peruse and offer my opinion gratis,
The opening funeral scene of this book is one I won’t soon forget, folks. The author did an amazing job of gripping my heart and squeezing it ever so tight. She briefly took me deep inside, Cohen, the grieving widow’s heart and head, as he emotionally battled overwhelming loss while holding his two year old son. You see, he had just lost his “forever kind of love/soul mate”, and I felt his complete utter despair and uncertainty in how he could possibly go on.
If only the author could have stayed tapped into that writing style, I know I would have really enjoyed the rest of this book immensely. Though the main couple’s first meeting eight years later was sweet, it was just average, along with the rest of the story line. I felt I ran into more words than emotions after that first chapter. Too much time was spent on, well, just about everything. From frequently describing Paige’s, the heroine, previous life in New York, her shop, her apartment, her friends in town, a previous potential boyfriend, Cohen’s vet office, his home, the people he worked with/other town folk, lengthy descriptions of “everything”, including constant mental monologues of both character, even Cohen’s little boy’s love of cake. The stray dog named Jazz captured too much of the spotlight, as well, IMHO. Along with all the walks back and forth to various places (from Cohen’s office to the bakery, from the bakery to his office, to a local boardwalk, a walk in the woods on Cohen’s property, etc.). The point I’m trying to make here is despite all the verbiage the story line was going nowhere significant. I just couldn’t get into what should have been a swept me off my feet, intriguing romantic tale.
It bothers me not to be able to write a raving review, folks. After reading the synopsis and admiring the sweet, classy book cover, not to actually like the book itself feels like admitting to not liking cute, cuddly puppies or adorable, fluffy kittens, which I happen to love both equally and quite considerably.
Here’s to hoping it’s just me, my fellow romance book loving friends. I simply found the pacing incredibly too slow for my personal taste. There was a sweet story hidden here, but it was moving at a snail’s pace and smothered by too much averageness and lengthy verbiage, resulting in a very forgettable read for me. I wish this author continued writing success, and I sincerely do hope others enjoy this romantic tale.
Title: The Forget Me Not Bakery, Author: Caroline Flynn, Pages: 384, stand-alone, animal doc widow hero with a toddler, tragic loss past hero, master baker heroine, very slow paced, first chapter was the best part, did not want to finish due to snail pace/lengthy overly descriptive flowery writing.

I love American small town romances. You get to feel the real sense of community. This book covers grief, romance, new challenges and the trick of juggling blended families. Paige opens a new bakery and meets the local vet on her opening day. They get to know each other and she loves spending time with him and his son. He's still missing his late wife and protective of his son- this brings different problems to the relationship and the will they/won't they element.
Absolutely brilliant, I fell in love with this (Cohen) from the first chapter, I just was hooked and couldn’t put it down. I just loved how slow burn Cohen and Paige are, so cautious and respectful of each other’s feelings at the start , it’s just lovely. There is the usual touch of drama, as to be expected and I love a story with second chances at love. It’s a lovely light read, heartwarming and such a great community feel. I loved it.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
This is such a sweet, little small-town romance. It’s perfect for those lazy days when all you want to do is curl up and fall into a non-taxing, easy to read story. It’s not the wham-bam, hits in you hard in the heart romance, it’s very a predictable, cute boy meets girl type, in fact, think of those cutesy afternoon films what everyone watches at Christmas and you will have an idea, there is nothing essentially wrong with it, the characters are very likeable and it is fun getting to know them and watch them fall in love, the plot is a little samey as other’s in the small town genre but enjoyable none-the-less it just didn’t give me the loved up buzz I usually get. I did enjoy it, it was a nice stop-gap between other heavier books I am currently reading, the story flowed easily and the characters are very likeable, my heart went our to Cohen he lost apart of his self when his wife died and left in its a place was this thirst for revenge of some sort even though he knew it was a tragic accident, hulking that heavyweight around isn’t the easiest especially with the addition of a confused little boy. I liked the friends to lovers trope romance that occurred between Paige and Cohan, both are looking for a fresh start and both are lonely, theirs is a sweet relationship and I really liked how they connected instantly. This s all about find a place to call home, a story of second chances and moving on, I liked the premise of it, there’s not really a lot more I can say about it, it’s sweet, heartfelt, with lots of emotion, the plot is steady and moves along at a gentle pace and the characters are relatable and well developed but it is a little too cutesy for my liking. I would go as far in saying this would be a perfect young adult, coming of age romance or it would be a great starter for those coming into the sweet romance genre. I believe this is the first book by Caroline Flynn, and just because this one didn’t quite hit the spot, I will happily try her books again as I did like her easy reading, writing style. If your looking for a more passionate and sexy romance then this isn’t the book to read, but if you want to just float away on fluffy cake filled clouds then give it a go.
"Happiness wasn't something someone else could give ; it was something people had to allow themselves to find, experience and accept. Only then could they let someone else in to share it with."
The Forget-Me-Not Bakery was like a combination of all of my favorite flavors of cake together. A smile was literally plastered to my face while I was reading it. (There were some parts that made me a cry a little though) From the talk about cupcakes and cute dogs, to being the sweetest small-town romance ever, this book was perfect in every way possible. The characters, both the male and female lead along with the supporting ones, were so well-written. Cohen and Paige’s relationship was adorable as well. I loved seeing how their friendship blossomed into something really special. The respect and love that they shared for each other was just so heart-warming. AND don’t even get started on how much I loved Cohen’s son, Bryce’s scenes in the story. :’)
The Forget-Me-Not bakery will fix a gloomy day and fill it with warmth. If you’re a fan of Hallmark movies, definitely pick this up. Highly recommend!
This adorable book charmed me from the start. I absolutely love a sweet love story set in a small town involving a bakery - the premise of so many of the most precious Hallmark movies - it's a winning combination! This love story featured the growing connection between former NYCer and bakery owner Paige, who came to Port Landon looking for a fresh start and slower pace of life to chase her dream, and Port Landon's own Dr. Cohen Beckett, the town veterinarian who has not focused on much beside his practice and his son Bryce since his wife's passing many years before. I especially loved Bryce's character and how his hilarious comments, love of cake, and adorable dog helped to bring Paige and Cohen together. This was an incredibly sweet story, and Flynn really brought the town of Port Landon to life with it's nosy residents (I loved the concept of the diner gossip gang and the ongoing theme of gossip making its way around town faster than the reality of a situation). Definitely a perfect read for lovers of small-town love stories and delicious cakes!
This appears to be the debut novel by Caroline, as I can't find any others. And what a book it is. We meet the lovely Paige Henley who is following her dream arriving in Port Landon to take over a bakery, The towns vet, Cohen Beckett attends the grand opening of Paige's bakery and could there be love on the horizon? Cohen tragically lost his wife years before and could Paige be the lucky lady who warms his heart again? Looking forward to another instalment if there is to be one.
Fun, warm romance with themes of love, loss and family. The slower pace of life portrayed is very like the way all of our lives have been made quieter by the pandemic and perhaps this is not a bad thing - the frantic city bustle is not something I’m in a hurry to get back to, like the protagonist. Enjoyable escapism but be warned it will leave you craving cake intensely!
A delightful heart-felt story! This is the perfect summer read. Paige had a successful career, living the fast paced life in the concrete jungle of New York. She had everything, she thought. At least until she questions her happiness. She decided to leave it all behind to pursue another dream, her true dream, one that hopefully, this time, will include happiness. Cohen is the local veterinarian and single father. He lost his wife eight years ago. A heartache he’s never gotten over. He is the town’s most sought after and never caught bachelor. His focus is his son and his work. Until Paige comes to town. “She’s come quietly into town and turned his whole world on axis.” Their one interaction leaves sparks neither can deny. But his pain is so great, will he give Paige a chance? “Eight years had done little to heal that wound.” The book starts us at the funeral of Cohen’s wife where we see first- hand the devastation her death leaves behind. It was heart wrenching. I was worried with a book opener like that, the book would be depressing. However, the book quickly progressed the story to eight years later where the author sets the stage for a light, flirty, fun story I quickly gobbled up. Equally craving all of the delicious mouth-watering desserts Paige masterminds in her bakery. Cohen, Paige, and Bryce (Cohen’s son) were great characters. The author gave Cohen and Paige depth and complexity that made them interesting characters that were easy to relate to. Bryce was hilarious and the perfect side kick to egg on his hesitant dad, but also offer the buffer and levity needed when Cohen and Paige found themselves in uncomfortable situations. The story had some descriptive and inner monologue parts that seemed a bit lengthy at times. I found myself quickly doing some skimming over those parts to get to the good stuff. And there was a lot of good stuff. Overall, the book tells a fun, light-hearted story that I really enjoyed! This is a new to me author. I can honestly say that I will be on the lookout for her future books!
I absolutely love, love, loved this! This book will suck you in, keep you captive and only release you after the last page.
I must admit the prologue had me in tears as I wondered where the book would lead but as I began to delve in further I fell completely in love with it.
The author brings the characters and all the places in the book to life, I wanted to be there, I wanted to be friends with Paige and Allison, I wanted a job in the bakery or (as a former veterinary nurse) a job in the veterinary clinic.
Everything was well described and factually correct. The little boy in this story is portrayed so well, his relationship with his father, with people around him, he’s such a character!! Even the family dog is included so well in this story, her mannerisms so accurate to her breed.
If I could have I would have devoured this book in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down and I certainly didn’t want it to end.
Yes, in some ways it may follow the general pattern of a modern romance, with perhaps some predictable parts, but in others it really doesn’t. It’s fresh and new and a lovely tale of love, loss, friendships and fresh starts.
I’m not going to give too much away just that you will fall in love with this book and everyone in it! You will feel their pain, cry with them (both happy and sad) and laugh too.
This is a fantastic story that is told well and is now one of my favourite reads! I would recommend this to everyone and will be purchasing copies for myself and friends once it is released.
I will certainly be seeking out more from this author.
Thank you to Netgallery, the publishers and most importantly the author, for the chance to read this book, in exchange for an honest review.
After finishing The Forget-Me-Not Bakery, I discovered it was the author's debut novel. I didn't expect that at all because it was so good! People who know me, or have seen my other reviews or TBR, know I like my books dirty. This wasn't that. There was no sex, there barely got kissed. This story is a real clean romance. And guess what? It didn't bother me one bit, this story didn't need sex. It wouldn't have added anything to the storyline.
After years of focussing on her career, Paige moves from the big city to a small town to make her dream of opening a bakery come true. That's where she meets local veterinarian and widower Cohen and his son Bryce. Paige and Cohen had an immediate connection. All their interactions were super cute, and Cohan was just swoony. Bryce was a hilarious child, I loved that he had a big role in the story. This is small-town romance with lots of gossip and nosy people who try to interfere, but all these people added something to the story and made it more funny.
There was lots of angst in the story which really worked, but the last 10% felt a little dragged out. As mature people they should have come to a solution earlier.
The audiobook of The Forget-Me-Not Bakery is narrated by Ben Allen and Daniella Acitelli. Both voices are beautiful and pleasant to listen to. Ben Allen had so much emotion in his low, calm voice, it made it apparent that he was very into the story. I can say the same about Daniella Acitelli, at some point during an emotional scene, it was like she really choked up with her emotions. She had a very sweet and low voice. If you enjoy listening to a small town romance that's sweet as sugar, you have to read this story.
The story has a powerful start, where we meet Dr. Cohen Beckett, the local vet, mourning his young wife’s passing. He is left with his heartbreak and a 2-year old son. Skip forward 8 years, and Paige Henley moves into town to take over the bakery. They make an instant connection when Cohen comes into the bakery on the grand opening day.
This is a slow, clean, HEA romance. Paige and Cohen were very cute at the start of their relationship. Does she like me as much as I like her? What does it mean when he says this? Or does that? Many of the expected feelings and thoughts that go along with starting a new relationship. But poor Paige had carefully opened her heart to a man who wore blinders when it came to his son. And that caused the main friction between them.
I liked Paige and Cohen, they were fairly mature for most of their interactions. They had to contend with an entire town interfering, and that was a bit much at times. I understand the whole small-town thing where everyone knows everyone’s business, but this was just a bit over the top. Everyone had them marrying before they even went on their first date. That would be enough to make any one nervous. I also didn’t quite buy into the situation with Paige’s ex-boss later in the book. It just wasn’t very realistic for me.
It’s a great book for a quiet, easy, relaxed read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Paige decides it's time to leave the Hussle and bussle of NYC and move to the small town of Port Landon to pursue her dream of owning her own bakery. Paige has always put love on the back burner, but maybe now is her chance to find it.
Cohen, a widowed veterinarian with an adorable 10 year old son has been deemed the most eligible bachelor by the town. However, he has put up walls to protect his heart from another heartbreak. Could the new baker's sweet treats and heart, tear those walls down?
This was such a sweet and fluffy read, perfect for a lazy day at the beach, pool or lake. Make sure you have some sweet treats near by to satisfy your sweet tooth-the desserts described in this one sound HEAVENLY. I am a fan of multiple POV and enjoyed the chapters switching between Cohen and Paige's view points. The description of the town was spot on and I enjoyed exploring the town throughout the novel. I will say that this is a relatively modest romance, so if you are looking for steam you won't find much of it here. I found this novel to be refreshing and very easy to read. 3.5/5 Thank you NetGalley, Caroline Flynn and HQ Digital for my Advanced Reader copy.
I definitely recommend this first book in the Port Landon series. There is so much sweetness in this romance - and I'm not talking about the baked goods!
The opening of the book that introduces local veterinarian Dr. Cohen Beckett is raw and heartbreaking. It gives an honest look into grief and loss and, I hope, the true heart of small towns.
Paige Henley leaves a successful career in NYC and moves to a small Michigan town to realize her dream of finally opening her own bakery. She immediately is won over by the charm of Port Landon as well as the local veterinarian and his precocious, cake-loving son, Bryce.
The ways Cohen and Paige keep getting pushed together are organic and sweet, as is the blossoming friendship that develops. Every accidental touch and longing gaze is swoon-worthy and lovely.
My only criticisms would be that the story didn't move along quickly enough and there wasn't enough heat/sexual tension for MY personal tastes. But Port Landon is a charming town, the characters were well-developed, the romance was a delightful slow burn, and the relationship that included the doctor's son and their sort-of dog, Jazz, was realistic and sweet.
This was the debt book by Caroline Flynn and it was a great read which I fell in love straight away.
The story is about Paige who has moved from New York and opened a new bakery where she meets some of the local including the local vet Cohen and his Son Bryce. They also have a loveable dog which you will fall in love with too. The story is told from both Paige's and Cohen's POV and I love it when stories do this as I think it really helps to get to know the characters. Bryce is also hilarious and I loved some of the things that he would come out with.
I was quickly sucked in the story and wanted to keep reading and not put it down. It is a very easy, light hearted read. There are lots of twists and turns in the book that will keep you reading. There is some great witty and funny banter between the characters. The descriptions of some of the cakes and bakes will also have your mouth watering.
I would highly recommend this to fans of light hearted, fun romance reads. I can't wait for future books from Caroline Flynn.
Thank you to Netgalley and HQ digital for the book in exchange for this review
I would give this book a 4.5, very close to a 5. I loved this book, it was light and fluffy whilst carrying an emotional depth to it. My favourite things were the bakery aspect which made me want to bake even more than I already do. The other thing was Paige and Cohen as beautifully flawed characters and their relationship. I loved how they had the upmost respect and love for each other. The best part of the book was the humour from Cohen and Paige but especially from Cohen's son Bryce, I loved his sarcastic remarks and how he was such an integral part in their relationship. Flynn did a really good job in writing characters full of emotion and vulnerability as well as great witty humour. I did also enjoy the small town setting and the kind of gossip like atmosphere that was created. Overall, although it was very much a slow-burn romance, I didn't mind at all because the humour, baking and interactions with the town was a great distraction. I also felt that the dual perspective was very well done.
This book has all the ingredients for a perfect small-town romance book (see what I did there hehe). It follows Paige, who moves from NYC to start a bakery in a small town called Port Landon, and Cohen, who is a veterinarian single dad who’s wife passed away eight years ago. Although both of them are not looking for love or a relationship the chemistry is instant when they meet. They will just have to decide if the love they share will make it the chance of them getting hurt worth taking. I really liked the way Paige and Cohen’s son (Bryce) bonded and made their own friendship. The story is told through Paige and Cohen in respective chapters and it’s great to see their own thoughts and hesitations as their relationship grows. I really liked this book and it had all the vibes of a cute Hallmark movie. It is a great lighthearted read that doesn’t have much conflict; making it a great feel-good summer read!
This was such a sweet and light-hearted read! I loved watching Paige and Cohen fall in love (also I just love the name Paige Henley for some reason), but even more so, I loved watching Bryce, Cohen's son, fall in love with Paige. I've been reading a lot of romance about main characters who meet in their teens and early twenties and fall in love for the first time with them, but the romance is different when the characters are older and have been in love before or have children to factor into the equation. Caroline Flynn really did a great job. I was in tears (happy ones!) at the very end. Plus, I loved her description of Port Landon. I could picture Main Street and all the quaint shops perfectly.
If you're a fan of Nicholas Sparks, this book is right up your alley.
Thanks to NetGalley and HQ Digital for an advance copy of this book. It was the perfect summer escape read.
I'm a sucker for a book whose plot includes a bakery! This was the perfect summer read. The book alternates chapters between Paige's and Cohen's point of view and there were a few times where we got each one's perspective on the same encounter. G-rated and would be good for a YA, too. The story would be great for a Hallmark Movie. Paige opens The Cakery in the small town of Port Landon and begins a friendship/courtship with the town veterinarian who has a precocious 10 year old boy and lovable dog name Jazz. Thrown in are her cousin's wedding and a fundraiser for a resident whose house burned down. There are a few ups and downs and misunderstandings along the way for Paige and Cohen. The ending did not disappoint.
I was provided with an ARC of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
