"The Menu" by Steven Manchester is a good book but I do have a few issues with it. First, I will admit that I know the book is fiction. But, this book ends with all the people that has dies in this person life, I can't tell you who dies, that would be a spoiler alert, is in Heaven when this person gets there regardless of their lifestyle. I believe there has to be a turn from sin. There are at least 5 times that swear words are used and again that is my own preferences. I was surprised at all the drinking involved in this book, again I know my thoughts on drinking is not the same as others.
It seems to me the theme of the book is "Leave the world a better place than it was when you came into it. and to be Kind. I agreed with these two but I believe we need to do more than this. Yes, the book clearly points out that God is with us all the time. And yes, I recommend this book even with the issues that I have mentioned above with the warning that there is no mention of turning from sin to gain entrance into Heaven. This book does deal with abortion and death and really real life and yes it brought tears to me a couple of times. I really liked the poems in this book and I am not a poetry lover at all. I fine most poems hard to understand but I really wanted to share these poems with others and in fact I did read a few poems aloud to my sister who I am visiting this week.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
What an uplifting story! Everyone should take the chance to read this, opening your heart and mind to drink in the possibilities of "what if..." This came to me at a time of personal crisis of faith, but with everything happening in the world today, it would be wonderful to know that this is how life works. I won't reveal any spoilers because the book should be enjoyed as a whole, but there is extreme happiness and heart-rending sorrow, just as there is in life. The question is how much of anything is chance? Thank you to Steve Manchester for taking confusing parts of faith and breaking it down into a simpler, possible explanation through his poems and writing, and the characters of Phinn and Maddie and their friends and family.
I thought The Menu by Steven Manchester was a pretty good read. This is the first book I have read by this author and it definitely will not be the last. I enjoyed getting to know the Phinn Reed. His story is full of faith and inspiring. I enjoyed watching him grow throughout the book and had to keep reading to find out where he would go. I enjoyed taking this journey with him and I was entertained from the start to finish. The Menu is getting four and a half stars from me. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean and inspirational romance. I will be looking for more by Steven Manchester in the near future. I received a digital copy of The Menu from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
I absolutely loved this book! I was drawn into it and really felt like I became a part of the Reed family. I loved living every moment through the characters and then reminiscing about my own life at similar points.
This book makes you really think about life from a new perspective. The good, the bad, and all that in between. I will be looking at my own life with new eyes and cherishing it even more.
I loved this book! The Menu is a simply-written book about ordinary people living ordinary lives & yet it somehow manages to be extraordinary. There is a religious component to this book but not in a you-must-believe-what-I-believe way. It simply presents a unique perspective of what happens after (& before) our earthly lives. This book is, above all else, a book about life, love, & loving life.
The Menu is an inspirational story that explores the life questions and death taken of a men’s relationship with God. Phin’s life journey as he faces dreams through faith and love . They have moments of happiness and heartbreak.
