Cookie Rifkin escaped New Stepford…
…Now, in the sequel to ALPHA BOTS,,
She becomes an AI superhero!

When Cookie Rifkin robs a Russian bank with Wayne Dixon and their non-binary friend ANA, Stepford Corp sends a faceless bounty hunter to reclaim the rogue artificial intelligence. Moscow police trap them in the vault, but the superintelligent machines break out, then get separated. Cookie escapes with tons of gold and platinum, but Wayne gets arrested and flown back to corporate headquarters for radical refurbishing.

With the cops hot on her trail, Cookie hides on a luxury yacht named the Wonder Woman. There, she meets a new temptress, polyamorous pansexual Tabitha Kirsh. When Russian special forces catch up with Cookie, she’s forced to defend herself, but inevitably gets shot. The two womanoids escape together, but Cookie discovers Tabitha has a secret.

Shapeshifter ANA tries to intercept Wayne’s flight out of Moscow—but fails. Then, after the enby robot reunites with Cookie, Tabitha teleports them all to London, where they plan to extract Wayne at Heathrow airport.

Tabitha recruits her ex, Richie Johnson, an AI trans man who runs an underground railroad for escaped womanoids. At his gay bar, Dorothy’s, Cookie learns what it means to be queer, performs on stage with a drag queen, discovers she’s truly a bisexual woman, then has to fight a horde of attack lesbians to get to the airport.

But will Cookie and her new LGBT friends be able to rescue Wayne in time?

3.5 stars

This is the second book in the 'Womanoid Diaries' trilogy. I'd advise interested readers to begin with book one.

The first novel in the trilogy, Alpha Bots, takes place in New Stepford, a town where all the women are AI androids, purchased by men to fulfill their needs. Cookie Rifkin is unhappy in her role as a submissive wife.....

.....and becomes part of a militant group of AIs who want to be independent.

As Beta Bots opens, Cookie has gained her freedom,

and sets out on a mission with two AI companions: her boyfriend Wayne.....

.....and her non-binary metallic shapeshifting friend ANA (pronounced A-N-A).

The threesome plan to rob the Central Bank of Russia of thousands of tons of gold as well as a stash of palladium coins - which the AIs eat for energy. The heist doesn't go smoothly and Wayne is captured by a Stepford Corporation bounty hunter, who's paid to retrieve escaped androids.

Cookie and ANA get away, and set out to free Wayne, who's been spirited onto a private plane headed for England. Cookie knows what's happening to Wayne because AIs have Wi-Fi, which permits them to communicate with each other and share data. AIs can also upload any information they need from the internet, like martial arts moves, weapons specs, dance routines, recipes, location coordinates, and so on.

As Cookie is trying to work out how to help Wayne, she hears the clicking of Giuseppe Zanotti platform pumps - which retail for almost $1500 - and meets gorgeous AI Tabitha Kirsh.

Sparks fly between the bisexual gals, Cookie explains her plight, and Tabby offers her luxury yacht - named Wonder Woman - for a rescue mission. Tabby also introduces Cookie to a number of AI friends who'll help with the rescue: Richie (a handsome trans man);

Richie's girlfriend Peaches (a gorgeous drag queen);

and Uno (a non-binary white Bengal tiger).

There's time to spare before the fivesome need to head for England, because Tabby can teleport the Wonder Woman anywhere she wants. So the friends take a pause to party in Richie's gay nightclub, called Dorothy's, where there's dancing, drinking, drugs, and sex.

As it happens there's also danger, because the Stepford Corporation advertises a HUGE bounty for Cookie's capture, and almost everyone is now after Cookie. Moreover, an old nemesis of Cookie's shows up.....and the war is on.

With cops showing up, and AIs fighting each other, there's plenty of action in the book. This includes fights with knives, guns, rifles, rocket launchers, high-pitched sounds, karate, etc.

Battles involving AIs are especially tricky because AIs contain internal recyclones (sort of like Star Trek replicators) that they can use to heal themselves, rebuild lost body parts, and basically make anything they want....weapons, clothes, whatever.

AIs can eat and drink like humans, and they're especially good at preparing desserts. To celebrate a victory. Cookie and her friends prepare a buffet that features crème brûlée;

Moskva cake;

black-and-white cookies;

rainbow fudge;

devil food's cake;

and banana pudding (all of which sound good to me).

After an exciting climax, the book's finale leads into book three, called Gamma Bots - which is another exciting LGBTQ+, sci-fi adventure story.

Thanks to Netgalley, Ava Lock, and Semiscope IBPA for a copy of the book.

Did I say that I'd probably not read the next book in the series? Yes, I did and here I am, proven wrong. Well, let's be honest Laci Powers's narration did its fair share in realising that I should give the next book a go as well.
So, here we go - Beta Bots!
If I had my doubts with Alpha Bots at first, it's save to say that Beta Bots is absolutely awesome! Almost perfect. Matter of fact, the only reason I am not giving this book five stars is because almost all of the chapters ended with "And that's how.."/"And that's when..." - I get why Ava Lock chose to finish her chapters that way but I think it happened a bit too often. It got repetitive and dimmed my excitement for the next chapter a bit.
Other than that - there are new friends, old enemies and familiar faces becoming a regular member of the cast.
Big shout-out to the colourful and awesome queer representation during the book!
A trans man, a non-binary character, an asexual character - and, of course, the Triple-A (agender, aromantic and asexual); not to mention the most PEACHy drag queen ever.
I LOVED Beta Bots. From beginning to end, I was mezmerized with the characters - especially with the return of a certain someone, the Tyler Durden of the female fight club. I literally SCREAMED when they came back.
I am so excited for book three! Also, I LOVE how Ava Lock presents Cookie's bisexuality. I recently read another book where the bi-rep fell extremely flat, so I was delighted to have it much better handled in Beta Bots. (Actually, Alpha Bots already did a very good job at that, but Beta Bots tops it).
Long story short - I am extremely grateful to have been granted this ARC by the publisher, Ava Lock and Netgalley. I can't wait for the audiobook and I don't know how I am supposed to maintain patient until Gamma Bots will be released.

I am definitely recommending Beta Bots. There is so much queer rep in this book, especially of groups who usually are "forgotten" or aren't fully considered LGBTQIAP+ by some people. One asexual character is rare in a book - but two? And one of them is aroace? Consider me sold!
A trans male character and a drag queen?
Shut up and take my money.
I am looking forward to book 3, even though I am sad, because it means that this rollercoaster of emotions will come to an end.

I received a free ARC by Netgalley, the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review.

The vagaries of AI humanoids

Nevada author Ava Lock writes cyberpunk science fantasies focusing on women and technology. She writes short stories, NFTs (Non-Fungible Token), and novels - THE WOMANOID DIARIES - of which BETA BOTS is Book 2 of this AI Superhero Trilogy.

Ava has a finely polished wit and imagination and uses those attributes well in this continuing series that follows the adventures of a bisexual womanoid AI heroine in a saga that steams forward like a rocket. A hint of the quality of the prose is offered from the initial chapter: ‘For this morning’s mission, I chose a classic Barbie-doll outfit, You know the look, a white silk blouse under a pink boat neck jacket with a matching pencil skirt – just a tad bit too short. Naturally, I had all the accessories: a pink pillbox hat, a three-strand pearl choker, and matching earrings…The pink rosebud scarf tucked into the white leather Prada bag under my arm concealed my holstered Glock 41. I looked adorable and I knew I could kick some a**. Wayne wheeled our biggest Gucci suitcase along with the matching carryon that piggybacked from the telescoping handle…’ And thus we meet the primary couple of this adventure.

The overview of the hilarious, wildly imaginative plot follows: ‘When Cookie Rifkin robs a Russian bank with Wayne Dixon and their non-binary friend ANA, Stepford Corp sends a faceless bounty hunter to reclaim the rogue artificial intelligence. But will Cookie and her new LGBT friends be able to rescue Wayne in time?’

This is a fine addition to the LGBTQ/sci-fi fantasy genre written by a bisexual author who encourages the understanding and appreciation of choices of gender – on an AI plane.

Liberated AI Cookie Rifkin is back in this sequel, where she makes a daring rescue attempt and meets some incredible new LGBTQIA friends

Don't you hate it when a cryptic bounty hunter interrupts your attempt to rob the Central Bank of Russia? Cookie Rifkin, a liberated AI, successfully steals the gold and platinum that she needs for power-charging sustenance, but now she has a bigger problem on her hands: the love of her life, fellow AI Wayne, has been kidnapped.

Cookie is back in Ava Lock's Beta Bots, the second installment of the wonderfully goofy and delightfully bawdy Womanoid Diaries Series. Cookie, Wayne, and nonbinary asexual AI ANA have left behind New Stepford, but forces are conspiring to bring them back to corporate headquarters to face consequences. With Wayne imprisoned by his captors on a plane, Cookie and ANA will have to think fast and plan a high-flying rescue plan--with the help of some flamboyant new AI friends, of course.

Enter Tabby, a sexy pan woman with a useful yacht and impressive powers; Richie, a trans man who runs a gay club and helps free women AI; Peaches, an impeccably fashionable drag queen; and Uno, an asexual, agender, and aromantic white Bengel tiger with a serious grudge against humanity. This ragtag group of lovable queers needs to work together and remember their time zones if they want to save Wayne, especially because an old nemesis will be returning with new cronies to continue the fight. Get ready for robotic bird drones, rolling on Molly, bisexual realizations, Wizard of Oz references, AI mech battles, and a dance-fight sequence choreographed to Beyoncé's "Single Ladies."

Beta Bots has the same madcap energy, witty banter, and hilariously over-the-top violence of Ava Lock's previous work, but the focus is more on Cookie finding herself--and her people. Now that she's not forced to be a Stepford Wife, it's time for Cookie to see the world and engage in some serious self-discovery about her passions, her priorities, and her sexuality. It's such a gleeful thrill to see Cookie experience--and fall in love with--the LGBTQIA community, and learn that her identity can be complex and various. And fun! Beta Bots is both an entertaining adventure story and an excellent example of queer representation--and I can't wait to read the next volume.

‘Beta bots’ is the second book of “The Womanoid Diaries” right after the hilarious sci-fi novel, “Alpha bots”. Here it has Cookie Rifkin with the massive transformation from a submissive wife to a Superhero AI. Cookie with her love Wayne has got a plan to heist the central bank of Russia, despite their threat from their other AI villains, the mint’s Deputy Director, Viktor Orlov, and the armed forces. This book gives a treat to the readers which screen an action block movie in their minds over each flip of the page. The way Cookie explains the little things now and again to Wayne with love is just adorable. In their plan, there joins some other AIs ANA, Tabby, Richie, Peaches, and Uno. Among everyone from this crew, I fell in love with this nonbinary asexual AI ANA, who was once a Womanoid as like Cookie and now with no hair, no breasts, not even a hole, and has transformed completely into a metal body.

Each and every time I came across something that the protagonist says about sexuality and gender, my subconscious mind already makes up a scene that relates it to a normal human. And yes, that completely makes sense. This is what made me fall in love with this book despite my logical thinking. This winds up by pushing me to the edge of the seat and keeps me excited until I grab the last book from the sequel of the AI superhero trilogy.

Beta Bots captivated me from the opening pages, and I finished the book in just two sittings. This science-fiction masterpiece is addressed to a general audience but mystery thriller lovers will definitely adore it.
The novel is a perfect blend of a character-driven plot and interesting settings. The prose is beautiful and rich. The plot itself is full of unanticipated surprises.
This is undoubtedly for readers who like fiction like me. For those who like stories with interesting, well developed characters, this also has that. It is also for those who want excitement and a thrilling plot. But for those who want romance and passion, well, there they're completely out of luck.
I am very grateful to choose this work and I can’t wait for more from this writer as I enjoyed this one immensely!

Beta Bots is the second book of a series called The Womanoid Diaries and it was written by Ava Lock. The story follows Cookie Rifkin in another of her adventures with her LGTBQ+ friends. Fighting crime, homophobia, and dark secrets, Cookie will find herself on a self-discovery journey where she will learn not only that she is evolving but to not trust everyone she meets. Trying to help her friend from the Russian police, Cookie and her friends will do the impossible to succeed.
I have to say I was very drawn to this book because it felt very open-minded to me. I appreciate the fact that I had to learn new things to be able to understand and follow the story, the characters are very diverse and to me, that is very fresh and new. I'm very content with the story and overall, I think it is a very interesting book!

Thrilling with great character creation

Author Ava Lock’s second installment in The Womanoid Series, Beta Bots (following Alpha Bots), follows Cookie Rifkin after her narrow escape in the prequel. Stepford Corp doesn’t let their AI go without a fight though, and they have the law on their side.
The Womanoid Series installments are science fiction with captivating plots. Lock’s real strength are her characters, as she writes LGBT characters that pop from the page. It’s interesting to see a future world through her eyes, where AI is sentient, and non-cis gender and sexual alignments are so normalized that even mentioning it for each character seems unnecessary and too much. I love how much strength and energy she writes into each character though, especially Cookie. Definitely a good sci-fi read!

Ava Lock has skillfully delivered a gem of a storyline in Beta Bots: AI Superhero Trilogy! In this second book of the Womanoid series I have felt a thrill of fast paced excitement. Cookie Rifkin gets to discover herself with a journey that starts with a bank heist and later turns into a rescue mission to rescue Wayne Dixon. The story is full of action-packed adventures and masterfully intertwined with different characters so different yet so dynamic. Full of strong female characters, Beta bots will transform you to a different world.
As the theme of the plot is set to futuristic outline, it is quite hard to not to lose completely in it. I was amazed by the author's striking style of narration which creatively reflects how the story progresses to the end. I enjoyed the end and it was thoroughly shocking. Every sci-fi lover will enjoy this adventure full of endearing topics.

Continuing the excitement!

Having read "Alpha Bots" by Ava Locke, I was pretty excited to see where Cookie was going next. The story did not disappoint! Cookie was on a new adventure, meeting new people and determined her sexuality while she fought off attackers. Full of action, some suspense, and twists, I was on the edge of my seat. It is still refreshing to read from an AI's perspective, and this title to the series added a few more to the mix. The details within the pages basically put me in the action and all the places the characters visited. Cookie went through some character development, which was welcome. She learned more about herself, and that makes her relatable. I enjoyed this book as I did the first, and look forward to reading the next in the series. Wondeful! I recommend it to anyone!

Fantasy, Feminism and Technology.

Beta Boots is the second book of the trilogy "The Womanoid Diaries'', which is preceded by Alpha Boots. Both books are written by Ava Look, a writer of feminist futuristic fiction. This second installment shows the road travelled by Cookie Rifkin to become an IA hero. Beyond the advanced technology, I couldn't avoid imagining this story in an actual scene.

All characters are really interesting, especially because the book, through them, addresses topics like sexual identity and gender identity, which seemed very fascinating to me. I liked the plot although it was a little aggressive and shocking. I think that this is precisely the reason why the book is compelling and striking. It's a good option for sci-fi lovers.

A great second part
I kept on reading the “Beta Bots” saga because I found it really enticing and entertaining. This time the novel made a twist in Cookie Rifkin´s life. After escaping New Stepford, she turns out to be an Al superhero and that implies new adventures for her. But Cookie is not going to be alone, she counts on her new friends who will also help to figure out the way she feels. I think that in this second novel, the theme of friendship and acceptance is present.
What I liked a lot were the different stories that are intertwined with Cookie´s life. Also, the author´s writing style is great; simple and concise. The setting and the characters are well-depicted. I really enjoyed it and again, I recommend it!

If you like sci-fi novels, then this might be your best bet. The author uses descriptive imagery and strong characterization to convey the plot and setting to readers. There are many points in the book where you feel you have been transported to a dystopian futuristic world. The twists and turns make for an exciting adrenaline rush. It is also interesting how the author weaved the characters together and gave them a strong story that served the plot. More than just the plot, it is a treat to read the characters interact. If you like AI thrown into the mix, then this might be the perfect fit for you. It is a trilogy that guarantees to keep you hooked. You might have trouble putting the book down in some action-packed parts.

Boy did this read go into the uncanny valley for me fast. I'm currently studying a masters and my research topic has been along the lines of inauthenticity, the uncanny and the rise of AI, in particular focusing on sex robots, so Alpha Bots, really hit home in that regard. I would greatly recommend this book t those who love sci-fi books or films, it's very dystopian, and the best description would be if the realm of Bladerunner was combined with an episode of Black Mirror, you'd end up with this book, perhaps it's due to the global pandemic but if sci-fi satire has ironically become more of a please humanity don't go down this path. Especially given since the pandemic the purchase of sex dolls and sex robots has been on the rise!

This one is an interesting read; it has a lot of characters involved in some ugly situations. Those situations portray very important topics that we have in our society nowadays. So, for me it was really encouraging to read about modern topics in a fiction of these characteristics.

What I also liked about this read is that it portrays all genders, author Ava Lock made the space for all of this to be really present in the story through the book.

To sum up, I'm looking forward to reading the whole series and seeing what else this author can do with these strong topics that are so talked about these days.

This is a good book, but in my opinion, it was a bit long and, in some parts, I felt a bit lost because the author uses some terms like pansexual and non-binary which I have not been in touch with. Luckily, I continued reading it and I liked it. “Beta Bots” is the second book in the AI Superhero Trilogy.

The story is fast paced and action packed. It is about Cookie, whose life changes completely after robbing a bank with some friends. She must hide because she is persecuted by the Russian special forces.

All in all, I would highly recommend this piece of writing, especially for sci-fi fans, because it is well worth reading.

"Beta Bots: AI Superhero Trilogy" is the second book in The Womanoid Diaries series written by Ava Lock. This science fiction book is based on Cookie Rifkin, a robot woman, who became an AI superhero. But things sometimes don't go as planned. Wayne is caught by the Moscow police, and Cookie meets Tabitha Kirsh. Can they rescue Wayne?
Being completely honest, I found it very interesting how the author was able to unite literary genres and current issues to create this fascinating work. Another thing that I liked about this book is that at the end of it, readers have trigger warnings for each chapter. Without a doubt I am going to stick to the series.

I loved reading Beta Bots: AI Superhero Trilogy (The Womanoid Diaries Book 2), by feminist fiction writer, Ava Lock.
This story is about the amazing adventure of Cookie Rifkin, an AI superhero, and her new incredible LGBTQIA friends, who have to rescue her friend Wayne Dixon in time.
Every action and fight scene are intense! There are so many twists and turns that I couldn't help but notice all the details that would come up. The descriptions are so vivid, that helped me see it in my mind as a I read.
I don't want to give anything away, but the ending was extremely satisfying. This book is a must read of any sci-fi lover!

“Beta Bots: AI Superhero Trilogy” is the second part in the series  “The Womanoid Diaries”. In this book, the protagonist, together with two partners, commits a robbery and from that moment their lives change forever. One of them is caught in the site and the protagonist is chased by the Russians. In the middle of all this mess, she arrives to a safe place where she meets a new friend and there a great part of the story begins.
The author of this novel, Ava Lock, has done a great job with this series which combines science fiction and feminist fiction. She displays an excellent writing style. I recommend this read to any woman who is a science fiction lover.

Beta Bots (The Womanoid Diaries #2) by Ava Lock is another fun read by this author. Cookie Rifkin pulls off a bank robbery befitting her personality and one that could only be accomplished by artificial intelligence. This is a fun if disjointed journey featuring a collection of interesting and strong characters. If you are into strong female characters with futuristic elements this is the perfect read for you. Beta Bots has an LGBTQIA slant, so if that is of interest to you great, otherwise you might want to pass on this. There's plenty of action with fight scenes as well to move the plot along. Entertaining and fun read.

What if robots could experience emotion and pain like humans do, and what if they then decided to rebel? This question is explored and answered in Ava Lock’s Beta Bots, the second book in her Womanoid series.
Following the adventures of Cookie, ANA and Wayne as they fight for freedom and explore the depths of loyalty, the novel is danger packed, fast paced, and thrill inducing.
The book is well enough written with a good storyline and language, although at times it can be a bit over the top with the overt sexualization of the robots.
Overall though, the book is a fun and engaging read and peaks one’s interest as to what next Ava has in store for the robots and the Womanoid series.

‘Beta Bots (The Womanoid Diaries Book 2)’ by Ava Lock is the second book in The Womanoid Diaries. It’s a unique futuristic technology focused sci-fi book with a feminist lens that involves a bank robbery, AI, kidnapping, and a lot of action. The book tells the tale of Cookie, an AI superhero, and the adventures, trials and tribulations she experiences. There are a lot of interesting characters in this book and author Lock does a good job of introducing them. It’s a book filled with a lot of queer representation. Beta Bots is a good read for people interested in sci-fi and LGBTQ+ friendly books. It’s definitely interesting and action-packed from start to finish.

This second book in the trilogy is very exciting and entertaining. Cookie’s character is very well developed and described; I really liked it!
There’s a lot of action and adventure that got me reading at the edge of the sofa. I liked that feeling because I was eager to keep on reading and didn’t want to put down the book; and that’s a lot to say when the book is not short as in this case. There are a lot of entertaining scenes and a wide range of interesting characters that combines perfectly.
It is a not common story and that is why I was so attracted to it; there’s no clichés. I recommend reading Beta Bots, not only this one, but the whole trilogy.

Beta Bots
The female androids are at it again! Cookie is up to new antics; her Beau is captured, and she attempts to break him out. To do so she needs help and so we are introduced to exciting new characters. With the new additions, we are in for some interesting times, I think. I liked the new characters, and I liked that Cookie was still hung up on Wayne even is he is a lowly human. The broad spanning of genres here will entice many to give this series a try.

Loved this book. I think it's even better than the 1st book. I am a bit disappointed to find out that it's only planned as a trilogy. I can't imagine how it can end with 1 more book. But no spoilers here go read book 1 and 2 now ready for book 3.

Beta Bots 2 has the same insane energy, funny lines, and Grindhouse-style over-the-top violence.

This time the book focuses on Cookie, the AI who fought for freedom in the first book.
No longer an unwilling member of New Stepford, Cookie is free to do what she wants, and what she wants is to find who she actually is.
Cookie does some serious self-discovery about the things that have been driving her passions, fears, and desires. There is more LGBTQIA presence in the second novel and not just a “throw-away” moment of lesbian titillation.

A series still worth checking out.

Thanks to @NetGalley, Semiscope, and Ava Lock for the chance to read this ebook in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.
