So, I was actually dreading starting this book. For one, it's the beginning of the end of this series, and for two, we already got to see the characters from the previous books have their happily ever afters. Yes, I was excited to see reoccurring characters and couples from previous books again, but I was worried about their HEAs basically becoming null and void, especially with the big "end of the kingdoms" war that's been set up for the past several books.

This book was intense, captivating, and immensely well-told, with action, suspense, and twists and turns that surprised me and left me only wondering what could possibly happen next.

The beginning of this book was a bit on the slower side. It worked out well, because we got to know Galiena and become familiar with her unusual skills and circumstances as she began to grow up and find her place in the world.

It was enjoyable because this book (both the 1st and 2nd part, really) felt like one felt like one long sequel to all the books before it. It also hurt so much because no one was happy, and I just wanted them to be happy!

I loved getting to see Garren and Orabelle in depth again, seeing their interactions and how they and their relationship has grown since Saving Beauty. However, they have their hands full with Galiena's strange and frightening problems and the looming war threatening them all.

I was excited when the story first switched over to Tarrent and the others at the palace, but I was immediately upset because those at the palace are feeling the weight of the impending darkness more than most, and it's caused marital issues between Tarrent and Jaq.
Ugh, that Tarrent. He can't communicate to save his life. And Jaq- she's too stubborn to communicate to save her life. However, they did both put thought into each other and their marriage. They thought of how they were afraid of losing or hurting the other and they made an effort for each other and their relationship, and I enjoyed seeing that.

Alaric isn't doing great either. The impending war and conflict have taken their toll on him. He's lost his faith and become the shell of the man we've seen in previous books.

All the unfamiliar things to learn and the familiar one to catch up on became honestly overwhelming at times and I had to take several breaks from the book, so I ended up reading it slower than I expected or wanted.

As for Galiena and Adven, they didn't even meet until the last quarter of the book, but I was immediately sold with the two of them together. Both of them with their own unique situations and personalities were intriguing enough, but when they came together, they were a perfect fit, and I was so eager to see where they went.

As the book neared the end, I had no idea how it was going to leave off for Part II, and then I couldn't believe what was happening until it had happened and then the book had ended.
I was shocked, stunned, and so not prepared, and I jumped into Part II immediately!

Riveting! The beginning of the end has captured me.

I love this entire series. The book world, the characters, the storyline, the settings...all are so rich and varied. In this, the first part of the series finale, one of my favorite characters is back! Hooray! I wasn't sure how I'd feel about a younger MC, but I ended up liking Red well enough. I could actually connect with her, experience things alongside her. Please don't let the knowledge that this book has a part 2 keep you from reading it. Also, the rest of the books in the series are stand alone novels, though loosely connected. If you enjoy fairytales, fantasy, and a richly written novel, definitely get a copy of this one.

Ahh! What a beginning of the end!

If this were a movie adaptation, I honestly don't think I'd be able to watch it for fear of not EVER sleeping peacefully again. Though, I must add, if this entire series were made into films, I would WHOLEHEARTEDLY support them!!!

That said, WOW. I can't give away ANYTHING, so no details will be shared here, but let's just say I NEED THE FINAL BOOK. The lovely author did a fantastic job of bringing back the characters & their individual personalities. So well written! The story fits & falls into place so well, the story world is still amazing, & the complexity of the characters & their lives so very relatable. If you've yet to read these books, go do it. NOW. Starting with SAVING BEAUTY!!

Due to quite of bit of mature content---VIOLENCE, to be more specific, I would highly caution discretion among the younger readers. But if you're looking for an incredible series of clean fantasy, romance, & action, look no further than the CROWN OF STARS series!
