Can you succeed in business when your strength is more about sensitivity than swagger? If you're moved by meaning, more than manipulation? In other Can you succeed while still being you?
Christine Kane is living proof that the answer is yes.
Far too many of us have swallowed the notion that business owners have to be a certain way to be successful—strategy-obsessed, data-driven, and relentlessly aggressive. Bookstore shelves are lined with guides for entrepreneurs that urge them to "Crush it! "10X It!" or "Unf**k it!" Those who aren't crushers or unf**kers of anything are left wondering if something's wrong with them. Like, maybe they're just not cut out for business.
A former songwriter and performer, and then founder of Uplevel YOU—a multi-million-dollar business coaching company—Christine Kane shows a new class of entrepreneurs another way. It's time to connect , not crush. In The Soul-Sourced Entrepreneur , Kane shares the insights that have helped thousands find success without losing themselves.
In these pages, readers will find a practical plan
• Toss out ineffective, old-school goal-setting models. • Reframe your intuition and sensitivity as valuable assets, not as flaws to hide. • Examine old patterns for clues as to what's been holding you back. • Clean up the spaces and distractions draining your energy and power. • Learn to confidently trust in your own wisdom. • Break free from fear-based decision-making that plagues most businesses.
Throughout the book, you'll hear stories from other soul-sourced entrepreneurs, who employ their own reliable, unique set of best practices based as much in intuition and self-awareness as on specific skills and strategies.
Forget business as usual. Your business is personal, and in this new era, authenticity, creativity, and sensitivity are what set businesses apart. The Soul-Sourced Entrepreneur is your unconventional plan to build the business of your dreams, and being wildly successful by being you.
It feels like too much of a coincidence to read 2 books in the past week with reference to Asheville, North Carolina.. a sign from the universe? 🤔💭
Perhaps the fact that it's NC is what connected me with the book having called Raleigh home for 2 years. And that I visited Asheville too..
Of course any book with soul is for me and you have given me clarity about my mentoring services business if I dare to call it that...
Love these simple words: “I’m In.” And these 4 steps carried me into the soul entrepreneur I am. Thank you Christine for this.
Initiating Intention, Managing Power, Interpreting Experiences, and Navigating Decisions
-- Highlights from the book -- Do you want to know how entrepreneurship is being redefined? By ditching the winner-take-all tactics and leaning into authenticity and integrity.
teacher: the kind that leads with her soul. Money, yes. Success, yes. But soul first
value freedom, and my sanity, over numbers.
developing a relationship with numbers, money, and other measurables so they work for you—not the other way around.
Whether applied to our dreams, businesses, next steps, or simply our days, intention is a powerful force field.
definition of “sensitive,” then it’s about being keenly aware... quick to detect or respond to slight changes, signals, or influences
Thank you for trusting me to guide you. - love this message.. 🙏
If you are an entrepreneur, whether you are in your first year of business or your 10th, this is a book worth reading. It’s not a “how to” book or a “10 steps to business success” because running your own business is part of you and there’s no “checklist” when it comes to putting your heart and soul into your work - esp when it’s work you created! You won’t be told to “hustle more” in this book, actually you’ll hear quite the opposite. I learned about the importance of clarity, intention, mindset, energy, trust and much more and all through stories that immediately resonated with my own experiences, challenges and fears. I look forward to meeting Christine Kane in person someday, in part simply so I can personally thank her for putting this book into the world.
I enthusiastically started thinking about starting my own business earlier in the year. Then I got scared. If I had to believe most business owners, you shouldn't start if you don't have plans and strategies for every possible scenario. So I started backing out. Until I discovered Christine Kane's podcast. She gave me hope that it was possible for me, too, just like anyone else. And when I heard she had a book coming out, I pre-ordered it immediately. I finished it about a week ago, and am now going through it again. There are so many gems in there, I can't even begin to describe. I totally resonate with there being two tracks: soul and strategy. I wouldn't be able to do this without soul, but now I also know I have to learn to navigate strategy, and not in the icky way I had imagined. CK is an example for sensitive, creative & ambitious women like me, who are willing to let their business be another way for their souls to expand, and who crave authenticity and connection.
I get to read a lot of books as the host of a radio show and podcast and I did receive an advance copy but I bought a Kindle copy as well because it is that good! Most books I receive advance copies of are good, some bad and a few, great.
Those great ones are what light me up and shift my perspectives. This book is one of those great ones. It is like a song in a book. You know how a song can lift you up when you are down, give you confidence to achieve anything, unlock something inside that has been screaming or whispering to get out, or just allow your soul to sing?
This book is a song for entrepreneurs. Read it over and over like you listen to your favorite song. Dog ear it. Add post it notes or whatever helps you put thought into action but most of all savor it and allow the words to transform your thinking and align your entrepreneur soul with the strategic mind that we are often told is the old part of ourselves that matters in business.
As the author tells us in this powerful book, The Soul Sourced entrepreneur is unstoppable. Ok, my words but they came from reading this book.
I highly recommend this book and I will be gifting it to many this holiday season and beyond.
I first became familiar with Christine's work this past Spring, when she was a guest speaker at a webinar I literally stumbled upon on Eventbrite. I am so glad I happened upon her. Two years ago I started a business after working in pretty traditional corporate jobs for almost 15 years. I know how to do business the traditional way but I am determined to run my business and work in my business in a different way. If any of you are also sick of the status quo and want to figure out how to live and work in a different way, Christine's book has so many great tools and insights about how to do it. She has obviously seen personally, and through her clients, all the typical pitfalls of starting a business well-trained in the cultural norms for achievement. So, in addition to getting great suggestions to keep you on the new course you are paving for yourself you will see time and time again that you aren't alone.
The Soul Sourced Entrepreneur is a treasure. Christine Kane has shown me that running a business doesn't have to be cutthroat, but rather authentic, genuine, and can be done with integrity and joy.
As a "secretly sensitive" person, I've avoided marketing as it reminds me of carnival barkers and snake oil salesmen. Then there's Christine who says, "I have somehow made a niche coaching people on how to start, market, and run their businesses while being exactly who they are"... Christine's approach is personal and practical, walking you through all your excuses and fears with warmth, wisdom, and experience. This life-changing book is so full of valuable juicy gems, and her writing style is interesting, engaging, and funny. If you want to do business YOUR way... this is the book for you!
What a great book! Christine Kane approaches her business with intention, courage, and vulnerability, and in this book, with wit and candor, she shows her readers how to do the same. Reading it feels like sitting down with a good friend who's going challenge you on your own crap until you find the right answer, not just the easy answer. If you're looking to ditch the fake rah-rah and really pierce the mental and emotional clutter that's inhibiting you from generating wild breakthroughs in your business, pull up a chair. The Soul-Sourced Entrepreneur is not a book just to read, but to apply, live by, and internalize. And like a cherished friendship, you'll probably find something to fill your soul every time you return to its pages.
Graciously received a free copy through good reads.
Because I'm not an entrepreneur, I give this book 3.5 starts, but I'm certain it would be 4 if I had my own business. Even without being a business owner, this book helped me look at my progress at being a woman in leadership. The only thing that irked me was the health educator/ behavior change specialist in me, that thought she was too surface level/business jargon in the chapters. She talks about "intention" which is just behavior change without digging deep enough as to why people behave how they do, and "power" which is really about resilience which should be taught and practiced while someone is young. Overall, the book is worth the read.
This book speaks exactly to me: someone who connects her business to who she is therefore all the beauties, as well as challenges of life, is connected with the business. Christine Kane talks about this and brings a holistic approach to living your business as you live your life. She shares her magical stories, stories of her clients, and practices in a very loving way. I listened to the audiobook which was a great experience. She shares everything as she talks to a dear friend and she has a wonderful voice. I was also uplifted by her additions to the printed book which felt very spontaneous and genuine and made the audiobook experience more intimate than the printed book. I love everything about this! Thank you Christine!
Some people I know have been challenged with placing their experience inside Chrisitne's book...Books are to give us insight into ourselves, and lessons from metaphoric stories.. Christine's challenges, although I have not experienced in a music career, when I asked myself, 'where did I experience this', gave me clarity without, guilt and without beating myself up.. This is a book of stories to be studied. Instructive and Life Changing, if you allow it to be.. This is the value of real life stories, taken as metaphors and applied to one's experience.. I felt like Christine was writing my life, my challenges, my emotional and real.. responses... Thank You Christine for keeping it personal..
@thechristinekane was my first ever coach. Back in the days when I knew something needed to change. But I didn't know what. She spoke to me. In 2009 I even traveled all the way to Asheville (North Carolina) to attend her retreat.
It changed my life.
Thank you Christine for remaining your soul-sourced self and for showing us that especially in this time and age it's the only way to thrive.
. The Soul-Sourced™ Entrepreneur is a practical, and somewhat, unconventional plan to build the business of your dreams, and being wildly successful by being you ❤️.
I love this book. This book does talk to you soul, a business book where you are laughing out loud, really? REALLY! A business book for those of us that do believe in the "woo-woo" and those who are just stepping into that. Christine talks about the business of intention, passion and purpose vs. CRUSH IT, HUSTLE, you know.. ! BUY IT, READ IT, LIVE IT!! You can follow your soul and be an amazing entrepreneur!
This book truly is as the title suggests. I have taken courses by other business coaches with corporate tactics but they never felt right to me as it did not fit who I was. Christine really speaks to those who may not fit the corporate mold but want to build their business without sacrificing who they are.
It is helpful, easy to read, and full of great inspiration. Wish I had had this book years ago!
Not what I had anticipated. Happily. The book is like business coaching in a book. I was very pleased. I felt that she covered a wide array of topics and things that come up as an entrepreneur and how to navigate them with intention.
I did struggle to connect with some of her personal stories but overall, I definitely recommend this book and will be reading it again and again it has some fantastic exercises and journal prompts .
I was like a bobble head dog nodding in agreement all the way through the book. This book is full of wisdom and insight for those starting on their journey of designing, creating and building their business and for those who've been on this path a long time. A leading edge business book that is affirming, enlightening and an empowering read.
Christine Kane guides business owners with practical, and inspired wisdom. In an arena usually filled with empty catch phrases and bluster, Christine Kane writes with artful nuance and savvy intelligence.
I really enjoyed this book and it was hard to put down because it was so well written. It had such positive coaching information and I will be sharing the book with others.
Read like 70 % of it, but DNF. After reading the first few chapters, I had to know who this bragging coach author is, and whilst researching, I came across a woman (Jennifer Hoffman, look her up on Facebook) who claims that the author has been stealing her content and methods for a decade. I decided to keep reading nonetheless since I already have the book and didn't dig deeper into the allegations, but I kept being disappointed and I couldn't shake off an icky feeling, especially since the author forces all the focus on her ("here's how I did this, I was poor and unsuccessful but now I am here", etc., it gets boring, we get it, you did it, and surprise surprise, now you make good money off of it). I can imagine that this kind of writing is mindblowing for somebody who's never heard that marketing can be done in a more soulful, spirit-led and values-led way. I am honestly sad that the only book on the market that seems to dive into this topic is a typical "coach" book that serves as a vehicle to upsell the author's 1:1 offering.
Good takeaways beyond entrepreneurship and inspiration for any average Joe that needs to take control of their decision making and confront their emotions. I have already tried to pause and remember some of these principles in my day-to-day.
I was hoping to be inspired to make an entrepreneurial leap, and to some extent I was (still struggling to be clear on my intention!). I think this book has the most value for someone currently seeking guidance in their business. I would like to reread when I have a specific hustle to use as thought fodder.
I didn't want it to end! I savoured each chapter, relating to the emotional spectrum, the woes of being a sensitive person as an entrepreneur. And because the author is compassionate, kind and relatable, I fully welcomed her straight-shooting truths, tool. It's the business book for non-businessy entrepreneurs like me.
