Piper Rayne’s new instalment in the Greene Family series is everything, who doesn’t love an accidental Vegas wedding romance, between a gossip radio show host and a MMA fighter, but with a twist My Vegas Groom is Nikki Greene’s story, and all about how sometimes taking a risk in love pays off!
When Nikki wakes up in Vegas, the last person she expects to appear from her hotel shower is MMA fighter Logan, who also happens to be her new husband. Terrified of commitment and relationships after her dad broke their family apart, Nikki flees back to Alaska, hoping that it’ll sort itself out. But turns out what happens in Vegas definitely doesn’t stay there, as Logan follows her up to her hometown to convince her to give them a chance. Nikki is against it, but Logan strikes a deal, three months of a fake marriage for the press, and in return he’ll help her start her new celebrity podcast. Too good an opportunity to miss, Nikki reluctantly agrees, and they start the pretence of being a real married couple, trying to fool all the Greene family and the rest of the world. But Logan is determined to prove that there was a reason they felt the pull to get married in Vegas, and he’s got three months to do it. But will Nikki let him in?
Oh wow, Nikki and Logan were intense, I literally broke out in sweats at some point because I was just so desperate for Nikki to open her heart to Logan, who was wearing his on his sleeve. I think what I loved most about their story was how it went against all the stereotypical plot lines of Vegas wedding to MMA fighter, instead of them having to stay together, or the guy being the one opposed to commitment, it was the opposite way round. Logan was ready to try and Nikki wasn’t, and that slight change up to the conventional storyline made me so much more invested. Their chemistry was there from the start, it just took a while for them to find their footing as a couple.
Logan has to be one of my favourite Piper heroes of all time, he was everything you need in a partner, funny, protective but also sweet and sensitive. The fact he went against every typecast of the bad boy MMA fighter, even though he looked the part and when he needed to, he acted the alpha, but underneath he was a sweetheart who just wanted to have a chance. He was emotionally vulnerable with Nikki, letting his guard down early on, making it clear his intentions, but when he saw that he was pushing Nikki too far too soon, he backed off which I really liked. He let her come to terms with her feelings on her own, even if it did take a few more confessionals for her to get there.
Nikki was everything I expected in terms of her personality, the sassy gossip radio talk show host who loved to know everyone else’s business. But Piper made her much more real in her book, and her past hurt from her father’s actions meant she was petrified of anything involving commitment, and to be honest if I was in her position, I would feel the same. It broke my heart how at times you could see how much she wanted to give in to Logan, but there was this voice in the back of her head telling her that he would hurt her, even though he’d never done anything to make her think that. But without realising he wormed his way into her heart, and life, until she couldn’t see any other life than with him. When she decided to take that leap and try, I was so proud of her, it felt so monumental and I loved how much Logan appreciated that level of trust she put in him.
This Alaskan small-town romance series keeps getting better. Anything small-town by Piper Rayne is a must read for me, the Bailey’s are going to have to make room for the Greene Family in my heart. The continuation of including Dori and Ethel, the meddling matchmaking Grandma’s makes me feel like I am going home to my own extended family, and I adored how Piper continues to give hints to each of the Greene’s siblings’ personalities. The hints at to what they are like and who they may end up with just keep you guessing but also invested in the whole family. I have even started making predictions about future couples from this series, and after the bombshell in the epilogue, I can’t wait for Jed’s book next. Such an amazing third book in this new series from Piper Rayne, I already know the whole family are going to be another collection of characters I am going to fall in love with.
