I don’t brush my teeth at night. Sometimes I yell. I can’t reconcile the checkbook. Before company comes, I run through the house putting piles of stuff in garbage bags which will be “stored” in the guest bathtub until the company leaves.
Life. It’s not perfect. Those of us who participate in life aren’t perfect either. Far from it. Sometimes it’s wildly funny. Other times it leads us down paths of difficult discovery. I hope this compilation of weekly newspaper columns is a fun and enjoyable celebration of LIFE with all its ups and downs.
Lisa Smartt is a woman who loves to laugh! Born in a small town in West Kentucky, she now writes a weekly humor column from her home outside Dresden, Tennessee. She lives on 16 wooded acres with her husband, two sons (who sometimes fight), and three male cats who desperately need Prozac. Her first book was released in 2007 entitled, "The Smartt View: Life, Love, and Cluttered Closets."
Public speaking is Lisa's passion. She has spoken to groups around the country on subjects like "Contentment in a Discontent World" and "We're All in the Same Boat, So Grab a Lifeline." Lisa believes laughter is a gift and LOVES to share with others her personal weaknesses, struggles, and the sheer JOY of daily living!
Lisa Smartt was just what I needed in my life at this moment. Her book, The Smartt View made me feel like I was not alone with my habits and quirks and things that I thought made me different. I enjoyed her writing, it made me laugh and it made me think. I would tell anyone that is going through a tough time, or just needs a does of sunshine and a reason to smile to pick up this book and read it. Excellent work Ms. Smartt!
This is an old book, but the information Smartt gives us is not: - The annoyances of automated phone screeners - The inanity of political ads - That behavior--especially of elementary children--does not indicate academic achievement, intelligent, or future success. - Small town life is beautiful - The good and bad of the seasons of life, including the holidiays - Living with men and boys (I am female, but I love the idea of having chainsaws and HUGE flashlights, and being drawn to FIRE) - Garage sales are awful for the people running them - Should we spring clean? - Being open to change - Being overweight - Seeing the humanity in all people, and to not throw out degrading words or phrases to make others feel lesser.
I especially love her tributes to different groups of people.
The author of this book has a phenomenal sense of humor. She has a southern twang and before l new it l was reading with that twang. This book is a compilation of life's happenings. You will enjoy this book and will laugh so much that a bathroom close by is recommended.
Parts of this were serious, but not uninteresting. There were other parts were I could completely understand what the author was talking about. Then there were some thing (Reasons not to spring clean) that were hilarious!
