A newly revised edition of James Moore's book on the Sarah Cherry Murder case, and the author's belief that the wrong man, Dennis Dechaine, is spending his life in jail for the crime when all of the scientific evidence points elsewhere.
This is a great true crime book. Growing up in Maine around the time of this case, it has stuck in my mind over the years. I was too young when it was going on to pay attention to any of the "news" surrounding this case. This is an interesting read for those curious about possible miscarriages of justice in our system. I would particularly recommend to any person from the state of Maine.
A friend gave me this book because she is also fascinated by unsolved true crime. Since the case is back in the news as of last week, I decided to finally read it. It. Did. Not. Disappoint. I burned a day and a half reading through this trip down memory lane as a kid of the 80s. I'm sure it will live in my head for some time. I Googled the case for more information and saw Sarah's picture featured on my parents' TV nightly. Man, we just didn't know what we didn't know back then. A great read about the tragedy that shaped me that summer. It's worth another look with the advances in DNA analysis. I do not wish for Sarah's family to be subjected to the horrors again, but wouldn't they want to know, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the right guy is locked up?
This book is an amazing look into the way the justice system works(or does not work) in this case. I am glad that Dennis is finally getting the DNA testing he has asked for all this time!
