Will Kyla and Luke get their happy ever after?
Kyla and Luke haven't had an easy time in the first two books of the series and it doesn't look like their lives are going to get any easier in this final book of the trilogy. I enjoyed the previous books and hoped for a good old mystery to finish the series. This book was quite dark as cosy mysteries go, but all Joy's books pull off the same trick. On the surface, they seem sweet and, well, cosy but under the surface nothing is at it seems and there is far more going on with all the characters than first meets the eye. If you have read any other series by Joy, you will have an idea of what I mean. The themes of this book are dark and deep, and Kyla's life takes a very unexpected turn, as does Luke's.
I was very impressed, as usual, with how Joy manages to pull you in and then confound your expectations at every turn. Luke and Kyla have to face some extreme situations, helped by Alec (who has grown on me as the series has progressed), and danger is never far from them, it seems.
I love Kyla and Luke and am very happy with the ending of the series. Joy's books are always food for thought while being heartwarming at the same time. I don't know how she does it but I'm very glad that she shares her talent with us.
