"Mercy Devereux stood on the edge of a bridge, looking into the abyss below."
Life has not been kind to Mercy: her girlfriend is gone, she's unappreciated in her corporate job, and depression has always haunted her. That's how she came to stand on the bridge where she meets Acedia, the deity who oversees the Seven Sinners, bringers of peace and carnal healing.
Now Mercy must embark on a journey to reclaim the sinful delights in life, beginning with Lust, the crimson-colored deity who hopes to reawaken more than just a woman's heart. But Mercy soon discovers that a spirit's power is not meant for most mortal flesh - a dire thought, when there are seven ethereal women waiting for her, each with their own sinful agendas!
Sins of Mercy is a series of short stories about one woman's reawakening to the world around her. It includes topics regarding depression and self-harm. The overall serial has a HEA.
Hildred Billings is a Japanese and Religious Studies graduate who has spent her entire life knowing she would write for a living someday. She has lived in Japan multiple times in multiple locations, from the heights of the Japanese alps to the hectic Tokyo suburbs, with a life in Shikoku somewhere in there too.
Currently, Hildred lives in Oregon with her partner and two cats. When she's not commandeering the corner of the neighborhood coffee shop on hours on end (it's okay, she's on a first-name basis with the baristas) she's probably parked on the couch watching Bob's Burgers or screaming at a Zelda game. (Seriously, Link, why don't you move right?)
A very short read and I really liked the idea behind the story!!! And the name itself is really catching!!! I might really go ahead and read the rest of the boos! Its a really fun and interesting and a very real book!
A unique storyline about the agony of life, the seven sins that are only deadly when they are absent or uncontrolled & finding a way to live. The narrative made this a very entertaining book. Very enjoyable with nice flow, interesting narrative & relatable characters made it an easy read.
A deity saving women from themselves felt like a weird idea at first but as always, Hildred Billings writes great and complex characters in an uncommon setting. Reading about depression and suicidal thoughts like that can be hard, but this works well.
I was captivated by this story and can’t wait to listen to the rest of the series. Mercy is in such despair that Acedia must step in and try to save her. Darkness is lurking around every corner to try and defeat Acedia and claim Mercy for herself.
I really enjoyed this short read. It was very well written, kept me on edge and ended up being sensual as hell! I'd love to read about the remaining 6 sins... 😉. I highly recommend this quick sexy read. Well done! Seriously tho.. more sins to come?
My favorite lines from this book are: "Sinning is part of what makes you human. What makes you want to live." "For to sin was to be alive, and living was the endgame of existence." This promises to be a very interesting series!
This book is the first short story of a series. It’s nicely written. I am curious about how it goes on in the next one. This book contains matters of self harm and suicid.
Audiobook: The narration of Portia Kay Winters is decent.
As Mercy's life spirals out of control, Acedia intervenes to save her. However, saving Mercy may have more of an impact on Acedia herself than she realized would happen.
This is when I accidentally stumbled into a beautiful and unique series while searching for a quick, fun, erotic short story. I can't wait to learn more about the other sins!!
I was hooked on the first chapter, and I had to finished the book. To have a diety to be yours is a dream. Adventurous and well hot read to save a life is a wonderous idea to overcome.
I'm not sure how to review stories ! Other than typos . Only thing that stood out in book one was how quirky Mercy was made to sound or even better to act ! Also their were times that Mercy demonstrated a complete mind block in her memory either short or long !
This book intrigued me so much. I am not sure I understand the layers here. The deity Acadia has more power and the wisdom to to know the care that needs to be taken. Mercy is living with the destruction at a lovers hand. It is unique to think that by living with and controlling our sin can begin to heal us. I found this story both hard to wrap my head around and unable to put it down. I eagerly await the next book!
Another 5 star tale from Billings. I can't wait to have the whole series and see unfold. The details surrounding Acedia and who/what/how she is is sowell written and explained that you can visualize her. I have never connected better to a character in a book than i now have to Mercy. Depressed, at this point in her life, is an understatement. Lust has a newfound meaning top me. I cannot wait to continue this amazing journey..
I normally wouldn’t choose this genre but when it’s written by Hildred Billings what could go wrong? The simple answer is absolutely nothing, I loved this book. Typically well written and very hot. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
I understand that the sex is the main part, and that was ok, but the story that belonged to it was sloppily thrown together and that made the whole story not as good as it could have been with a more worked on story around the sex scene.
