Travel the world to get inspired by 40 small houses with unique character and style.
At the forefront of modern architecture, tiny houses exemplify today's ideals of minimalism, personal freedom, and low-impact construction--not to mention impeccable style and comfort. This book takes readers around the world to showcase today's most exciting small living spaces. Multi-page spreads feature highly detailed, full-color interior and exterior shots, along with informative texts that explore the inspiration and context of each home. From off-the-grid woodland dwellings that take you away from it all to high-density solutions to the urban housing crisis, these homes pack a lot of design ingenuity into their space. While some of these structures feature state-of-the-art architectural flourishes and luxurious amenities, others are modest and environmentally sustainable retreats designed specifically for travel, creative pursuits, or multi-generational living. Each of these homes offers endlessly innovative inspiration for building and living in your home, in spaces that fit your needs.
The most unique tiny houses I have ever seen are in this book. Take for example the house made of wool! ‘House’ may be a stretch for this one as it is only 32 sq ft. Barely enough room for a bedroll. The tiny structures are listed in order of increasing square footage and are an interesting collection from around the world.
A house is not a home, and nothing illustrates it better than this aesthetically plentiful but functionally empty collection of unlived-in spaces; with a few exceptions, all the "houses" shown are either incomplete (no bathroom, no kitchen, etc.), deliberately intended as a vacation home/B&B/temporary accomodation and therefore unrealistically empty, or just too large to be very interesting. The descriptions are also kinda cringy; you can only say the wood is aging grey so many times before it feels forced, and calling it "béton brut", then immediately translating it to "raw concrete" is absolutely not how you're supposed to use fancy other-language terms. Overall, very pretty buildings, but does not nearly hold up to the expectations I put in my own head.
While this book did feature extremely unique tiny houses (I had never seen any of them before) I would not recommend this book for those thinking about building their own.
Almost all of the houses featured were holiday homes and not designed for full time living. Many simply were not practical. Only one had a washer/dryer, several were missing a fridge, and some even lacked a toilet. While each tiny house was visually striking there is little to be gleaned for those hoping to have a tiny home.
One of the favourite tiny house books! It depicts various types of houses and buildings that are formed through different purposes including environmental support and demand, temporary lodging, and being a personal place of comfort. The architectures and style of each is quite amazing.
As noted, the tiny houses shared in this book mainly are not people's primary home, but more so vacation spots, place to relax and enjoy the nature, etc.
Architecturally beautiful tiny homes (some are not quite homes, but that's not an issue here) abound in this. Most of them seem incredibly expensive. I was hoping to see more accessible examples (for the average human) included here.
An interesting picture book of tiny structures. Sadly, the buildings aren't realistic and only serve as a source of mild entertainment. Not useful for anyone actually looking into building tiny homes for real world, everyday use.
Beautiful little book with a great selection of unique and creative tiny and small houses! There's a short description of each house and a floor plan and it's so much fun to look at the photos and start dreaming... Very inspiring! Love the small format!
