„Cocktails of the Movies“ made by Will Francis and Stacey Marsh is one of those books you will be forced to first browse through until the end before actually start them reading.
Hollywood has had a lifelong love affair with cocktails. During the 100 years since the movie industry first became established in a Los Angeles valley, the mixed drink has been a central device in the visual language of film. Due to that reason these two talented young authors decided to present 64 cocktails seen in the known movies through the history – listing the ingredients and preparation recipes together with the main actor caricature of particular movie.
The book is structured in a way to encourage chance encounters with drinks reader may not has previously considered. The book is simply ordered alphabetically by cocktail, without sections or chapters. Also it is important to emphasize the vast majority of recipes are easy to make, with the basic ingredients recommended in the book beginning.
As authors nicely wrote – “The greatest achievements come through simple means, and cocktails are no exception. To create fine cocktails at home one only needs a few good-quality tools, which are easily obtainable online or from specialist shops”. Therefore, the authors are going to help reader with the list of all required things (with cute pictures, of course) that would help one becoming a star at the bar.
And beside wealth of great information, this book shines when it comes to great design and small details that will force you to flip the pages until the very end. Not once.
Overall, this is very interesting, charming and beautifully designed book that will keep you occupied for some time and I was kind of sad to have it only in e-book format - because this is the kind of book you will show your friends and family, going through it together, recalling the movies, actors and cocktails.
I was given a copy of this book by the author for the purpose of unbiased review, while all the presented information is based on my impressions.
