Lily Morrison was as guarded as a woman could get—until Aspen Bellevue came along during her first year of college. His playful banter and sexy smirk paved a way straight to her heart. But that was before his playboy tendencies demolished it. After being hurt by the one man she ever truly wanted, she swore she’d never let herself fall for him again.
Aspen always knew his best friend’s twin sister was off limits. Lily was the one girl he couldn’t have—and yet, the only one he pined for. But by the time he realized this, ready to change his ways, it was already too late.
To her, Aspen will always be a womanizer. To him, she’s a sassy spitfire whose feathers he still loves to ruffle.
Now, after a few years apart, they’re thrown together to reunite with their old college crew. But this time, Aspen has a plan. He wants Lily to be his by the time they travel from Texas to South Carolina. Meanwhile, Lily wants their baggage to stay in the past—where to her, it belongs.
How much could go wrong when two sworn enemies—with two different outlooks and renewed sexual tension—come together in a car for a week-long road trip?
Only one of them wants to find out.
The Road to Finding Us is a complete standalone in the Aftershock Series.
Kat Singleton is a bestselling contemporary romance author best known for writing Black Ties and White Lies. She specializes in writing elite banter and angst mixed with a heavy dose of spice. Kat strives to write an authentically raw love story for her characters and feels that no book is complete without some emotional turmoil before a happily ever after.
She lives in Kansas with her husband, her two kids, and her two doodles. In her spare time, you can find her surviving off iced coffee and sneaking in a few pages of her current read.
Goodness this was so cute. I loved Aspen and Lily. And towards the end omg it was so emotional. Once Aspen got his feelings off his chest lordie the tears were real.
These two were a mess. To think that it could have all been avoided with communication. And it was so good to see Maverick and Veronica so happy!!
Lily and Aspen have known each other for years, but after some time apart they are thrown together on a road trip from Texas to South Caroline. Their sexual tension, banter, and history come out while on the trip that just can't be ignored.
Throughout the book, we have flashback chapters that pinpoint pinnacle moments in Lily and Aspen's life and then present time chapters of their adventure to South Caroline. It is also a dual perspective with both flashbacks and the present time.
I will say that I greatly enjoyed the book in the beginning and more than halfway, but towards the end, I felt it was way too rushed. I felt there should have been more time for the characters after all their passion/history comes to a climax.

(ARC provided in exchange for review) Alright so I finally have time to write a proper review so let’s go! Aspen and Lily were standouts in the previous book of the Aftershock series so when it was announced that book two was going to be about them I was eagerly anticipating this new release and surprise surprise(not really) I loved it! I loved the alternating chapters of the past and present and seeing the growth that both of them had which I feel like other books seem to fall short in when it comes to developing their characters so it was lovely to see actual growth in the both of them. The road trip aspect was also really great and I loved the little adventures that Lily and Aspen got into while also finding themselves as well, I really like the element of how as you grow older you figure out your true feelings and emotions and how sometimes the one thing you’re looking for has been around you the whole time. Also the little cameos of Veronica, Maverick and Selma were great as well and I’m just so in love with this series and the characters and I can’t wait to see where the series goes next!
A really slow burn read and full of angst. Tons of banter that got me laughing some parts, but OMG! Two VERY stubborn people. Enemies to lovers. Aspen and Lily. I just wanted to strangle them so much. Lock them together until they get their stuff figured out. Lol they've known each other when they first started college. Liked one another but too afraid to admit it. I'll have to say they are very similar, that's probably why they butt heads so much. I feel the ending was a little bit too rushed. I wished it could have developed a little bit more. But I still really did enjoyed. I'll have to read the other book in this series. It's my first read by Kat, and it's off to a good start.
This one ticked off all the boxes for me, and still refused to climb into just one of these holes. It needed to be more, and it definitely was. This couple, their games, their banter, the angst, all of it took me on such a journey, filled with twists and turns. Some truly heart wrenching moments, some that made me just wanna hug everyone, and some that made me wanna slap them all. I definitely ran the gamut as far as emotions went, but I thoroughly enjoyed every last bit of it. I loved the back and forth between present and past, giving us more insight on how things developed, what they turned into, and how they even got there. This one definitely kept me hooked.
the Road To Finding Us is a beautiful, angst filled second chance, brothers best friend, emotional real journey. It follows Lily, twin sister of Maverick from book 1, and Aspen, best friend of Maverick, through a road trip from Dallas to South Carolina for an event hosted by Veronica and Maverick.
It is told is multiple POV, and flashbacks. It is so so good, it gives you the time to process their difficulties, there’s miscommunication, there’s lust, there’s love, there’s tears.
"I saw us as an uncontrollable wildfire. One started from the smallest spark, but in no time, wild and raging."
I received an eARC copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review
I am always a sucker for an enemies to lovers romance, especially if both characters are so hardheaded and their story takes years to develop into something more. This book definitely has that element. It also is a dual POV and with flashbacks from their past interspersed into it to understand their background better. I usually don't like it if flashbacks were shown in every other chapter of a book because it often makes things confusing for the reader, but this one works really well, and I was anticipating those flashbacks scenes more because I want to understand the beef between Lily and Aspen before.
I really enjoyed a lot Aspen and Lily's relationship, especially as soon as they first met each other. In The Consequence of Loving Me, I already had a soft spot for Aspen, eager to know more about him, so this book did not disappoint. I was actually mors surprised at the revelation of Lily's character, and I found myself enjoying her as well. Their hot and cold relationship was so intense - even bordering over the top with their reactions and feelings - that it really made me want to shake both of them together. Things could have been solved immediately if they just started talking to one another and opening up more, but nope - they continued their stubborn ways. But I still really enjoyed that thing they had going on. The build up to their relationship was such a ride, and I just wish we could have gotten more into their new relationship - even just a tiny bit, but I am not complaining.
I also love how Maverick, Aspen, and Selma all played a role in their relationship. Their dynamic with the other characters was just so adorable and funny, and I really look forward to seeing more of them together in future books.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a really good slow burn enemies to lovers couple on a road trip.
I loved this second book in the series by Kat Singleton. It was a slower paced love story for me, but the storyline and characters were well-written and I connected to both of them in a lot of ways.
This story follows the lives of Aspen and Lily who you meet in the first installment. Lily is Maverick’s twin sister and best friends with Veronica. Aspen is best friends with Maverick and was roommates with him in college along with Veronica.
Aspen is funny, hot, and likes to have a good time. He had his sights set on Lily but their relationship is always hot and cold.
Lily is fierce. She says what she wants and how she feels and doesn’t care if you like it or not. She literally cracks me up with some of her comebacks.
This book follows the two of them on a road trip to South Carolina to meet up with Maverick and Veronica. Along the way, the two of them must learn to get along with each to make the best of the trip.
Each stop on the trip, Aspen and Lily find a piece of their past relationship with another and piece it back together. The ending crushed me and while it took a long time to get there, it was well worth it.
After reading The Consequence of Loving me, I was impatiently anticipating Aspen and Lily’s story! Their banter in that book alone sucked you in and made you want more of them!
In The Road to Finding Us we get a more in-depth look into their lives and their past! It will pull your heartstrings I’m telling you!!
Lily is absolutely hilarious and headstrong and I freaking adore her! I can totally relate to her insecurities about Aspen. Especially after their past is revealed. I Love Aspen! Seeing his normally cocky self be more vulnerable in this book... just Made it!
I loved getting to go along this road trip with these two! Seeing how they work through their feelings and come out the other side. They are hilarious and the banter back and forth will have you rolling! I was laughing out loud in the first chapter!
I Absolutely Recommend and I’m excited for what’s to come from Kat Singleton!
If you are a fan of frenemies to lovers second chance romance then The Road To Finding Us is for you. This is a story filled with a lot of amazing banter, some heartbreaking angst and an epic road trip.
I was hooked and mesmerized by this story from the start. The flashbacks mixed into the story provided the complete story, chock full of emotions, that led us to where we were in the book. I loved the evolution of Aspen and Lily’s relationship, even the rough parts. The character growth was really great as we get to see both Aspen and Lily grow throughout the story and on their trip.
This story has funny parts, sad parts, steamy parts and moments are absolute joy...exactly what I like to read. I would highly recommend and can’t wait for more from Kat.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is my first Kat Singleton book and it won’t be my last. I’m a sucker for a good enemies-to-lovers/second chance romance. This book was that and then some, and evoked so many emotions out of me. At times I laughed, or got frustrate. But Lily and Aspen’s banter and chemistry pulled me through. Their journey to self-discovery and finding true love was a delight to read. Felt like I was a part of their world. All-in-all, a great read.
I enjoyed this book. Aspen and Lily had a great connection and chemistry. They grew as characters as the book went on.
I dont particularly like past and present chapters but they served a purpose and flowed well.
I would have liked more Lily and Maverick scenes since they are twins and didnt have much interaction. I found Veronica to be quite annoying and the last page before the epilogue was a bit cheesy, but overall i liked the book.
I love second chance romance and if you give me a road trip, forced proximity and also a road trip on the memories lane, I’m here for it. I enjoyed this book quite a lot, it’s full of angsty moments going back and forth to then and now, how they become the person who they are now and how everything starts between them. I’ll definitely be reading more books by the author.
I had the pleasure of beta reading this beauty! I love these characters so much and couldn’t wait for their story to be told since book one! I’m so happy that it was told! All the heart eyes 😍
The characters blame each other for being hot and cold but actually it's the entire plot of this book.
Based on the premise, a second chance romance coming together on a road trip should have been right up my alley. The execution was a flop.
Just like their detour-ridden road trip, the trajectory of the plot was up and down and everywhere all at one.
First, the writing was more like semi-polished wattpad in the beginning and ended with me realizing this author was more trying to write dramatic rom com scenic scenes, rather than bring the romance together organically.
Second, even if you overlook the poor writing decisions with the time jumps, the actual conflict was so convoluted, you wanted to hit Lily. Like, I guess I'm supposed to believe she couldn't believe a guy would chance for her. But she went from 0 to 100 so fast in the actual incident, just like when they get together all of a sudden in present day, I got whiplash. Aspen was the actual victim of this girl's wild outbursts and I really couldn't stand it at the end when we were supposed to be really rooting for them.
Also, they brought in these clichéd archetypes everywhere. An old couple who Lily gets very oddly attached to overnight and cries at their sappy love story. This pancake seller who Lily is also weirdly attached to. A very cringey date with the most dated dialogues. It was so off-putting, like this was written 20 years ago.
Also, some things just kept being missed out within the plot. Between jumping back in time to tell us Lily and Aspen's plan, the way they get together didn't have a real flow and connection. It was random incidents meshed together that didn't effectively add meaning every pitstop of the way. I felt like we kept jumping around whereas we should have seen their feelings about each other clearly develop in a sensible upward graph.
What I want is for this plot to be entrusted to an author who knows to plan for a sensible relationship trajectory where we see real connection between our characters. Add in some actually witty banter. Show clearly that these characters have actually grown and not that Lily keeps bursting out and insulting Aspen even though he pulled out all the stops. And actually give me a not-convoluted finale grand romantic gesture. What even was that???
“I always want to remind you that my love burns as bright for you as that damn fire. And that it won’t ever be put out.”
Aspen and Lily’s chemistry piqued my interest in the first volume of this series. Their story did not disappoint. Full of surprise detours, past memories, and sizzling romance, The Road to Finding Us is a wonderful addition to the Aftershock Series.
Lily and Aspen have clearly been in love with each other since the first day they met in college. As the novel transitions from past to present in both characters points of view, readers are able to understand the intense connection between these two characters.
I absolutely loved their relationship and the road trip they embark on together (even though Lily didn’t want to at first). Although their road to love was rocky, their destination was beautifully reached.
Lily and Aspen took me on an emotional roller coaster! I loved the book but was happy for it to end to finally see their HEA!
The first book, not necessary to read but does introduce the characters, had me questioning Aspen and his feelings for Lily. Seeing his POV in this story and reading his thoughts showed how much he truly cared for her since day 1, even if he didn’t show it well.
I love how in the story, even after years since Lily and Aspen have seen each other, Aspen still knows Lily better than anyone and knows her likes and dislikes.
The epilogue brought me so much joy, not only getting to see into Aspen and Lily’s future but also Maverick and Veronica’s.
I probably shouldn't have read this immediately after the first one. Mainly because I feel like I'm seeing a pattern with the writing. We have angst for 90% of the book and then we wam, bam, thank you ma'am get them together real quick and wrap it up. Ugh...
I really loved Lily in the first book, and I liked her in this one. However, why did she focus on the negative the whole dang book?!?!??! Literally, it was THE.WHOLE.BOOK!!!! And Aspen, I loved him. He's trying to show her he cares, and she just shuts him down. And let's not talk about the whole reason she was mad....MISSCOMMUNICATION!! UGH! I HATE THAT TROPE!
It has a good ending. I wish we had more with them together instead of the last page and the epilogue, but at least they had their HEA.
This book was the sweetest sequel. I absolutely loved that this book had a special truck in it that reminded me so much of my grandfathers truck, and how the main male character adored it so much. I would just love to squeeze these fictional characters because I love them. They’re so cute. And the history between them was unmatched. I wish I could have more of them.
Lily and Aspen have a history that’s complicated. They both liked each other in the past but it never worked out. When Aspen shows up to take her on a spontaneous road trip to see her brother and girlfriend, she’s hesitant to say yes. But she ends up going, where they are forced to spend time together. Aspen prolongs the trip by staying in different places and taking his time, to ultimately get together with Lily.
Let me start by saying I am the biggest Kat fan, but this one didn’t do it for me. I was so frustrated with both of the main characters- they were very immature and I was just annoyed with them for most of the book. I get they were young and didn’t communicate well in college, but even when getting their second chance they still were awful at communicating and were still very immature - down to even in the final chapters they were not going to be together because of their miscommunications and games.
- brother’s best friend - Second chance - Dual timeline - Forced proximity
4.5⭐️ I just love the way Kat writes a story! I can’t stand miscommunication that can be easily avoided (hence not a full 5 stars), but she made the story so heart wrenching and interesting that I couldn’t put it down anyway. Lily falls hard and fast, but she can’t see past Aspen’s playboy past. He falls just as hard, but can’t find a way to make her see how serious he is about her. Years later, they get their second chance and I felt the angst the whole time!
This book y'all! "The destination ended up being perfect." Lily & Aspen. 😍 I love a good enemies to lovers story! I am a sucker for angst, sexual tension, and banter! I love this book! So hot, so good! 😍
I loved this book! It’s rare a second book involves so much story of the first couple, it gave perfect closure of maverick and Veronica’s story. I loved aspen and lily in this book, the fighting and love story, I loved it.
Kat became a favorite author of mine pretty quickly and now I read all her books. This 2 book series about college students romance had me on the edge of the seat the entire time.🥹🩵 This book was a slow burn for me but it made me read it even faster. Beautiful ending. 🥰
THE WAY I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! once again your girl was SOBBING reading this one!! Lily and Aspen took me on a journey I cannot deal!!! Full review to come but infinity stars no notes 10/10!
