The story is good. Much of the conversation translation was clunky. There was also a lot of unnecessary details. Could’ve been about 100 pages shorter.

The tragic, sad and incredible story of the men who were tasked to fight the worst nuclear disaster in history. The book goes into the lives of two helicopter test pilots, Anatoly Grishenko and Gourgen Karapetyan, and how they helped seal off the doomed reactor. These men were key in cleaning up the mess at Chernobyl, but one of them, Anatoly, developed cancer from the work done there. The story of their exploits are interwoven with the work done by the author to bring the stricken pilot to the US for cancer treatment, but Perestroika and Glasnost are still in their infancy and it is very difficult to get him to the US.
