I received a PDF.file copy of this book from the author through a giveaway he had on LibraryThing, and the following is my honest opinion.

Given the times we’re living in, especially with the COVID-19 virus still affecting a great deal of us still staying/working at home with no places to go to see or eat, I found this book to be great for many reasons.

For starters, the book creates a marvelous opportunity for individuals to get together and test each other’s knowledge of American history.

As for myself, having been an A+ student in history, especially American history, back in my high school days [over 50 years ago], I loved seeing how much of the history I’d learned I still can remember. Surprisingly, I’ve remembered a great deal and would give myself a B+.

For having given his readers, especially myself, an opportunity to test our knowledge of American history, either in a group or individually, I’ve given the author, Mr. O’Neill, 5 STARS for his endeavor here.

Fun for Trivia Geeks

I absolutely adore trivia, so this book was right up my alley! What I loved is that the author covered not only history, as you might imagine, but also a number of cultural aspects about the US, from music to sports to women's history and the civil rights movement. I think my favorites were food and bizarre presidential facts! Unlike many trivia books, this book did divide the questions by category. I so appreciate that. At the end of each section are a few just straight-up interesting bits of trivia. My only quibble with the Kindle edition is that it's kind of a pain to flip back and forth for the answers in an ebook. Perhaps these could have been given upside down in a footnote, though I'm not sure if upside down as possible in a Kindle or other ebook. Other than that, I found this book to be immensely enjoyable and perfect for a trivia geek like me.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

I was happy to receive ‘The Great American Trivia Quiz Book’, by Bill O’Neill, through the Library Thing ‘Member Giveaway’, as I have read a couple of his previous works and thoroughly enjoyed them. As in the previous cases, I was surprised to learn how much I didn’t know when it came to trivia. O’Neill has compiled an intriguing list of topics that certainly any American would want to have knowledge of, and that are fascinating to me as a Canadian.

The book is laid out in a compelling manner, with quizzes in different categories, each followed by their answers, and then a more in depth group of facts related to the subject at hand. If you are a fan of trivia, you need this book. Trust me. I don’t suspect anyone will hit the first quiz without realizing that there is much they don’t know, but don’t feel bad; O’Neill is a master of trivial knowledge and I would not suggest joining him for a game of Trivia Pursuit.

I quite love trivia and received this as an e-book for review.

I found that some trivia pieces could have had some extra information. There were a few tidbits that I had to google to find out more and felt like it could have benefited from pictures or citations.

Overall it was decent.
