Emerald Cove #2

Seaside Manor Bed and Breakfast

Rate this book
The Seaside Manor Bed & Breakfast has been an institution in Emerald Cove for as long as anyone can remember. But things are changing and Diana is nervous about what the future might hold for her and her husband, not to mention the historic business.

With no experience to back him up, Ethan Flannigan moves back home to the Cove and takes on the bed and breakfast as a part-owner. Diana's niece, Emily, agrees to help her aunt and uncle, but the charming man they sold half of the business to does nothing but get under her skin, even if the spark between them is hard to ignore.

Rebecca Mair is the new cop in town but she's got a secret she hasn't shared with anyone else, including her boss, and that secret is about to catch up with her.

Sarah Flannigan finally has the man of her dreams, but her career is spiraling out of control. With a difficult choice set before her, will she stay in the Cove with Mick and her family, or head back to the city to save her job?

A light, feel-good read . . .

Diana, Emily, Sarah, and Rebecca - four women holding secret hurts from their pasts, four stories of new beginnings. Mirren's Emerald Cove series is filled with imperfect but truly endearing characters. Their stories are told with delicacy and understanding. Seaside Manor is the perfect book to while away a stormy winter evening, warming you from the inside out.

I don’t know what kind of books these are - women’s fiction, contemporary, clean romance, family saga? Whatever it is, I have just really enjoyed all of the books I’ve read by Lilly Mirren. They are easy, flowing, and always with a touch of intrigue and a dash of emotional moments. Looking forward to reading more!

This is an interesting book, and a wonderful read!
This is the second book in the series of two. If you’ve not read the first one (Cottage on Oceanview Lane), please read it first, for their beginning stories. The author, Lilly Mirren, has written a good combination of characters, which make up friendships in a small beach town. They each have their story told throughout the book, as you read it. They each have others they are closer to, and know many of the others around them, as well. This is a well-developed book, which is comprised of many “sub-stories,” yet they often interlink with those around them. I loved both books, and I’m confident you will, as well.

Seaside Manor Bed and Breakfast
Emerald Cove, Book 2
By: Lilly Mirren
Narrated by: Coralie Bywater

Diana and her husband are ready to retire, and passing the Bed and Breakfast to their niece, Emily seems the right thing to do. But may not be enough to get them by. When Ethan Flannigan shows and interest, they sell half to him and instantly Emily and Ethan are partners. Is this a good thing? Emily isn't quite sure! Rebecca Mair is a respectable police officer, but she holds a secret. Secrets have a way of catching up with you and hers comes to town! Will she be able to survive it? Lilly Mirren writes beautiful stories with fantastic characters. This is the second book in the Emerald Cove series and it has real life circumstances woven into her wonderful writing. There is more to Emily and Ethan than just being hotel owners together. Becca is holding out hoping her secret stays in the past. Diana also holds something in her heart that comes to light. Now we find out just how damaging and dangerous the past can be and we will see if happiness can be found in the end. Women's literature at it's best, you will fall in love with Emerald Cove.

Coralie Bywater is a fantastic storyteller and she brings all the characters to life. Each it's own voice and personality, she is narrates to the story beautifully.

I love this series, and in 2 days I've read the 1st 2 books, with the 3rd downloaded ready to start.

Set in Emerald Cove, Australia, this book is centred around the bed and breakfast run by Diana and Rupert, who live next door to Diana's best friend of 40 years, Cindy Flanagan (the Flanagan family run through all the books and are a main part of the series). Someone from Diana's past turns up in the Cove, someone who could completely change her life.

Emily, Diana and Ruperts Niece needs a new challenge, and they offer it to her, will she accept it? At the same time, Cindy's Son, Ethan comes back to the Cove to live after something goes wrong at the Engineering Company he works for.

Sarah Flanagan, the main character in book 1 is living in the Cove and has found love, but can she take it a step further? She keeps thinking most men are like her father and her ex.

Then there is the new policeman in the Cove, Rebecca, what is her story? Certainly her boss at the station can't find out, and this creates tension between them, difficult when they're partners at work.

Readers who like Debbie Macomber's series Cedar Cove and Blossom Street will love this series.

I've already bought book 3 and am looking forward to starting it! I'm hoping they're are more bold in the series to come.

I received this as a review copy and was worried that I hadn't read book 1. I could keep up with this story but will go back and read the first book now. If you want a quick and easy summer book to read, this is a good choice.I The descriptions of Australia are wonderful and makes you want to be right there with the characters. There are a few different stories going on. The main one is about Emily and Ethan and their new ownership of a bed and breakfast. They have a relationship that goes between good and not so good, mainly because of some incidents during their childhood. After Emily shares her feelings, the relationship is better. The book is also about Diane, the previous owner of the bed and breakfast and Emily's aunt, who has a secret she hasn't shared in years. Sarah and Mick and Rebecca are also characters in this book. Rebecca, also, has a secret that she doesn't want known. This is a great book to just escape into.

For me a large part of the reason that I particularly enjoy a book is whether I feel for the characters or not. In this case I definitely did, although there are quite a number with varying levels of involvement. It can be confusing with the number of viewpoints, which some will not like. Think "Love Actually" with the various strands interconnected but part of the whole story.
This time the story is concentrated around the Seaside Manor B&B where Emily has taken over running it, with Ethan as her business partner. Previous characters also have their part in the story continuing where they left off in book 1.
Overall a book that I really enjoyed, if you liked the Waratah Inn series you will also love this.
I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however this did not influence my review of the book.

A Good Read

Just as Emily is wondering what to do with her life, her aunt Diana contacts her and asks if Emily would like to take over the running of her aunt and uncles B & B. Emily jumps at the chance then finds out that Ethan Flannigan has moved back home and has become part owner of the B & B. Emily had a big crush on Ethan when she was young but he never took much notice of her apart from being a bit unkind but Emily still holds a grudge. Now they have to work together. Meanwhile Diana has always kept a secret from her husband, but now she is about to be found out, will her husband be able to forgiver her? I really enjoyed this book. My only slight complaint is that the book would move between different characters and I had to stop and remember who they all were. It probably says more about me than the book though and I look forward to reading more in the series.

I enjoyed this second book in the series. It was written with beautiful descriptions of Australian scenery as well as characters. It was good to get reacquainted with some characters from Book 1 as well. Ms. Mirren has interwoven heartache, romance, forgiveness, as well as a bit of suspense throughout the story line(s). Quite a few entanglements between friends and family that were mostly resolved in the story. Looking forward to see if there's a mate for Rebecca as well as Ben and curious to see what will happen when Andy and Keisha move back into Emerald Cove! Grr! LOVE the descriptions of the bed & breakfast--would love to stay there! I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have voluntarily given my honest opinion in this review.

This second book of the series is exciting, thought provoking and romantic. So much is going on and keeps you reading just to find solutions. Mysteries are solved, health issues find solutions; and, romance comes to the Cove. In the dictionary of the book, I learned “smoko” means “taking a break” and I loved the terminologies of Australia. In book one, I worried about certain characters but to my delight, I’m smiling at the end of this book. It’s terrific! When the bad guys lose and the good ones find happiness, it’s a great read and makes my day. Be aware, you might need Kleenex. Thanks to the author for giving me an ARC to enjoy.

Lots of Happenings

Ms. Mirren has written a book that kept my attention throughout. I’m looking forward to getting to know more about her characters. Diane & Rupert own an inn, that they gave half of it to their niece, Emily. Ethan buys the other half & they are forced to work together. There are several relationships in this book. They are well written & are very believable. If you like a book that keeps on moving, read this one to find many relationships. This is a book that could be read by anyone from teenagers to senior citizens.

Second Chances All-Around
This episode tidies up all of the loose ends. There are second chances for many. There are many tears, both of joy and sorrow. This is an excellent women's fiction book that will leave a warm glow in your heart. I have read so many of this author's books; they are all of the high quality and stick in your brain and heart for quite some time. I received this ARC book for free from the author and this is my honest review.

This is my first book by this author. I really enjoyed the story. It is an interesting twist to write each chapter about the different characters. The setting in Emerald Cove sounds wonderful. The Australian setting and some of the words are totally new to me but I really liked it. Even though this was the second in a series, I didn't feel like I was missing the back stories of the characters.

Received as a review copy, was worried that I hadn't read book 1, but there was no need. There is some reference to what happened in book 1, but it doesn't take away from the story. There are multiple stories going on at the same time, but all are related. If you want a feel good, quick, easy, book to escape with, this is a good choice.

Always enjoyable to visit Lilly Mirren's seaside towns and spend time with the residents there. Continuing the stories from The Cottage on Oceanview Lane, Mirren immersed me in the second book in the lives of her characters. Some surprises turn up and kept me glued to the end of the book. Very fun time spent. I look forward to new stories from her.

This is the second of two books in the Emerald Cove series. I was happy to get resolution for the characters that I got to know in the first book. There are many secrets revealed and happy endings for all though the path to the happiness is not straight. I laughed, I cried, I held my breath. This was a very enjoyable book.

Feeling magnanimous I give it 2 stars rather than one. I suppose this demonstrates how out of sync I am with so many readers on this site. First, it was B.O.R.I.N.G. No real plot to this book just a mishmash if underdeveloped characters and story lines without any character being compelling. Don't waste your time.

The Cove down under

Lots of story lines going on in a good way. I didn’t get closure on all of those story lines, disappointing. Interesting hidden secrets in The Cove. Sounded like a beautiful place to live or visit. Nice friendships and relationships with friendly community businesses there.

So many neat characters and each had their own input in this story. The plot was well planned with a suprise here and there. A really touching story with something for every reader to enjoy.

I just can't get enough of this series. The friendly people and families that live there and all the exciting adventures that take place in a small town.

Love that in this read the chief of police takes the "newbie" under his wing - not to much age difference and sparks begin to fly!

Cant wait to start the next one!

Very good 2nd book

I really loved this series. The first one was a little hard to get started but the second one moved right along an hour familiar with most of characters! It took me away which is what I love about reading books. Great writing by a really great author 🙏💕

Sweet read

Good characters. Plausible descriptions. Interesting facts about Australia. Easy reading though you had to keep up with which character the author was talking about or you would get confused.

Happily Ever Afters

I enjoyed this book and how the separate stories were resolved. Some of them were connected to others, but a couple didn't seem related. This would be a perfect kind of book for the new Kindle Vella.
