Anna Elliott is an author of historical fiction and fantasy. She enjoys stories about strong women, and loves exploring the multitude of ways women can find their unique strengths. She was delighted to lend a hand with the Sherlock & Lucy series, and thrilled to continue a new spin-off series featuring Becky and Flynn. Her first series, the Twilight of Avalon trilogy, is a retelling of the Trystan & Isolde legend. She wrote her second series, The Pride & Prejudice Chronicles , chiefly to satisfy her own curiosity about what might have happened to Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy, and all the other wonderful cast of characters after the official end of Jane Austen’s classic work.
Another enjoyable, well-written mystery in this series.
I've said it before, but it's worthy of repeating: I love sherlock Holmes' books in which the addition of a new characters doesn't make fools of any of the original ones. Lucy is a great character herself, and I'll keep reading stories in this series.
Both, Simon Prebble and Mary Jane Wells do an excellent job with the narration.
Another will written British 🏰 relationship adventure thriller short story by Anna Elliott and Charles Veley The Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James Mystery Series book twenty. Sherlock, Lucy, and Watson are asked to help protect a witness. When her husband is shot it changes everything. Who is the guilty party? I would recommend this series and authors to readers of mysteries and Sherlock Holmes fans. Enjoy the adventure of reading. 2022 😮 👒😤👑
I listened to this book on Audible, and although it was a rather short story, it was well written and well read. There are a number of other short stories in this series, as well as some full-length ones.
I just finished the 20th novel/novella in this series (this one) and have pre-ordered the 21st. I have to attribute a great number of "kudos" to the authors for not only having written a glorious novel, but also for writing this excellent series.
In my 60s, and being a voracious reader (300-400 books a year), I have come across many 'novella' length entries into some pretty great authors' established series of books. Never before have I ever come across a series where the "novella" length stories are just as intriguing and as "edge of your seat" as the "novel" length ones are.
Every story in this series (novel or novella) is stunning in that the actual stories, plots, happenings, and the characters are all fully fleshed out while you are reading the "series".
I wish the was some way for me to 'personally ' thank these 2 authors for their writing some of the most welcomed batch of books I have come across in oh so many years.
THE SOLITARY WITNESS follows immediately after the incidents in FIVE PINK LADIES. Again, the story revolves more around the extended main characters in this series than it does the usual Holmes and Watson duo.
It would be easy to do spoilers about both stories, but that's not my style. I will say that FIVE PINK LADIES involves art theft and murder, and that a witness to murder comes forward in THE SOLITARY WITNESS.
THE SOLITARY WITNESS is the 20th book in this series. Some of the books are novella length, others are full-blown novels… all of them are fast reads. If you are a fan of the Sherlock Holmes stories, each of these tales is a worthy addition to the canon. I highly recommend that you start at the beginning with THE LAST MORIARTY and work your way through all the books.
I was correct in that having paused my reading of this ongoing series to read a different book, it threw me off, and having the first of the new ones found for the series be a multiple view point was confusing, but probably only for me, as it always throws me off. This one was a bit better for me because I had already restarted with one other and gotten back into the series and characters. There are a couple or more to go through before I am through the series so ending this so can continue on.
I am fascinated by the imagination that good mystery writers have, especially when there is the added talent for composing a good plot to what seems at the outset to be a simple matter. The Solitary Witness is such a story written by very competent authors. I am a big fan of the Sherlock-Lucy series as well as the Becky-Flynn series and the newly begun The Homefront Sleuths series. I look forward to reading and reviewing each adventure and recommend them to those who enjoy a good cozy mystery.
This is the second book in this series that I have read. Not having read the stories in order does not seem to take anything away from it. The series adds Lucy sherlocks daughter to the stories which gives it a fun difference from the original Sherlock stories. I look forward to reading more in the series
A very enjoyable tale using the revived Holmes character along with their delightful new additional characters. The range in characters’ ages makes it more of a family friendly book. It is a pleasure to read these stories. Lots of twists and turns and good plot lines.
A fast-paced, elegantly written mystery that blended high-society intrigue with real danger as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James raced to protect a vulnerable witness.
Rich in atmosphere and clever twists, it delivered classic tension. I felt like Lucy really shone as a strong, compelling partner in the investigation, too!

Love all these characters! This story is an excellent addition to the series. The mystery twists and turns and I never figured it out. I definitely recommend it. I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
Lots of characters who should not be trusted and a plot that seems to go from one calamity to another. This one has all the favorite characters and includes Flynn taking some initiatives- risky or not. It's a good one!
Very interesting twists and turns as Lady Constance prepares to testify against Linden, our killer from the previous story. The characters are fun. Flynn and Becky continue to have a role.
