In this collection of short stories, the author leads the reader through a world or horror and humor, from the top of an Appalachian mountain to a world beyond the stars. Speculative fiction, ghost stories, zombies, and the lighter side of human nature; all can be found within these pages.
Terrye is a native Texan who writes stories set in her home state and other strange places. In her free time Terrye enjoys exploring antique, junk, and thrift stores for inspiration and bargains. She’s had stories published in small print and online journals, and writes short, humorous essays for her blog - https://terryeturpin.com/.
This is a special collection of stories. Each is told with cleverness and élan. These tales have a Southern Gothic flavored with East Texas. Rather than the drug-addled degeneracy of something like Denis Johnson's Jesus' Son, The Imposer is frequently seen through the eyes of women, down on their luck, lovelorn, or grieving, but often determined, even courageous when the unexpected sends their world topsy-turvy. Many read like ghost stories, the kind that are more of a creeping existential horror than something outright scary. And yet, there's versatility in style and scope. A pleasure to read. Recommended.
Terrye is an excellent storyteller. She is at home writing in many genres and topics. This collection of stories features a wide variety of genres and themes, most featuring female characters. The stories only take a few minutes to read, making it an excellent nightstand book. I found all of the stories entertaining, quick reads.
What a wonderful read! I have read these stories a few times now and they always get better with each read! I am so proud to now own a book by this author! Love the way the author enfolds you into the story with the characters and plot lines. Can't wait to read more by this author!!
One of the best collection of short stories I've ever read. Frightening, moving, sweet, thrilling, you name it and Terrye offers it in healthy doses. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up!
I sorted through two years of short stories to determine which ones to include in this collection. My goal was to create a candy-box mix of humor, fantasy, horror, and even a touch of romance. I'm a native Texan, so some of my background flavors this book. I like to think the characters take first place in all my writing. The title of the book is taken from a tale about a woman tempted by infidelity, and it is one of my favorite stories that I've written. If you give it a read, I'd love to hear your feedback. Let's stay in touch.
