"Awright, let's get this party started . . . What the freakin' flark?!" - guest star Rocket Raccoon

Absolutely irrelevant but just as equally irreverent outer space adventure featuring that 'Merc with the Mouth' known as Deadpool. Simply put, our main character chases after a 'MacGuffin' on "a celestial head at the boundary of known space . . . called Knowhere" (a satellite resembling a robot's head, because I can't make this $#%& up). From there he amusingly references the Star Wars, Star Trek, and Alien film series in his non-stop fight scenes as well as other sci-fi classics like . . . Dirty Dancing??? Get set in the right frame of mind and this was an enjoyable little diversion of a story.

The volume ends with a darkly hilarious short story featuring Deadpool partnering with a comic book UPC symbol (don't even ask) as they jump through classic Marvel covers of the 60's and 70's.

This collection is basically one comic, an over-sized Deadpool #30, plus some weird thing they did where a variant cover for each of the first 20 issues tells a stand alone story when put together. Now the two stories are good, the book just seems awful short for sixteen bucks. The fact that there are 9 collections for the first 30 issues should tell you something about Marvel bilking its fans for every last dollar they can.

The Deadpool in Space story is fun. Deadpool goes into space looking for a weapon that can kill Madcap. Then in the clever variant covers story, Deadpool teams up with the UPC code to escape the cover. There's a lot of clever odes to famous Marvel covers. It's weird and neat at the same time.

Drinkspit funny in places, but the ending's a little anticlimactic. Gerry Duggan's pulling all his dangling plot-threads together at this stage; I'm hoping the end of his run is more satisfying than the end of this volume.

Before I discuss the stories themselves I feel I just have to discuss the packaging of this series. The recent Deadpool trades have been a bit rubbish in the way they collect issues together. This volume effectively collects two issues (though one is an extended one). It seems unfair that this is charged a trade price despite being little more than one comic book.

What is included here though is superb. The main story sees Deadpool head out into space in the hope of finding a weapon to kill current nemesis Madcap. I adore Marvel's cosmic universe and there's a good exploration of it here- the Watcher's grave, the Nova Corps, Know here, the Collector, the Brood and a Rocket Racoon cameo.

Whilst I wouldn't like to see Deadpool in space permanently it is really good for a one off. There's an excuse for several sci-fi franchises to get referenced and Deadpool has a lot of fun here. As ever Duggan adds an element of 'pool's melancholy in places, always reminding us why he is the world's (and the universe's) most annoying mercenary.

Also included here is the first story of secret comic variant covers. They originally appeared as covers but together are a self-contained story. Cleverly it sees Deadpool meeting the barcode who becomes a character of his own. It plays around with the idea of the barcode ruining comic covers and plays homage to some classic covers. The idea seemed a bit silly when I first heard about it but it's clear that Gerry Duggan had a strong idea for it which really works.

A thin volume which doesn't offer value for money but the two stories within it are great.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I can't stop laughing....
After the business with Dracula and Shiklah in the last Volume, I was curious to see where the writers were going to throw 'Pool next. I forgot about Madcap though...
In order to find a weapon that can destroy an indestructible being like Madcap, Deadpool goes off to space. Hijacking a rocket, then solar sail surfing across the cosmos, Wade is headed for Knowhere (after a scene I couldn't stop laughing on where he debated "Knowhere" like the classic "Who's on First" bit). Throw in crazy puns, jokes about DC Comics (inquiring about weapons like a "green ring" and "tell Deathstroke I said hello"), 3-d printing a copy of the Ultimate Nullifier, all kinds of classic sci-fi jokes, a visit from The Collector, and tons of combat with the help of "Broodpool", and you have one of the funniest issues of Deadpool I have ever read.
Then.... witness the first time (at least in my memory) where an entire story is told over sequential variant covers. Deadpool, 4th wall breaking like crazy, and a living UPC code called "UPC-PO".... just pick this one up. I can say no more. Be ready to laugh till your sides hurt.
High Recommend.

I keep waiting for this series to pick a central storyline, but each TP seems to flip where the focus is. That's not really a problem, but it does break up the general continuity of events. This one was fun, though not as funny as has been achieved by some Deadpool stories. The space elements changed things up and left room for some great jokes. it was entertaining but, unfortunately, it didn't really stand out for me in any notable way.

This entire "World's Greatest" has struggled from the beginning. Though it has much improved in recent volumes, I haven't loved much of what they've done with the series. So, I guess that's what this review comes down to - it was entertaining.

One day, I will reread all my comics in the order they were meant to be and genuinely review them, but for now, I'm reading them in the order they're meant to be in, but with months in between each other that I mostly forget what happened before to lead up to what's happening in what I'm reading.

Anyway, I loved that in this one we got to see Sif (and Wade flirting with Sif) and even Rocket popped in for a little cameo. At the end, I loved seeing Wade meet Cap (the Secret Wars Cap) and just being like "There's nothing I won't do for you" because he doesn't know what's going on and trusts him.

I had fun reading it, as I always do.

*I’ve read A LOT and not reviewed in a long time, so to catch up: Three sentence reviews!*

Meh. I've read better Deadpool--this felt mostly just like an excuse for violence. (And yes, I know that's often what Deadpool is.) But I've read Deadpool that goes beyond that--actually having some nice heart and even a nice story thrown in with all the mayhem. This graphic novel was, in the end, mostly forgettable.

This volume is made of two issues, which isn't really a lotI was for a collection really...

The stories in this are one that has to do with Deadpool coming in contact with and interacting with famous Marvel covers - which was a lot of fun. And the other was Deadpool going to space to find a weapon that can actually kill Slapstick. That one was also really fun. It was funny, violent, and fun, what more could you want from a DP book?

I was actually thinking about taking a break from the DP books for a while, but this one actually kind of reinvigorated my love for the character and the tone for the book. I usually say, the only downside is that I wanted more, but in this case that's more of a negative than usual. This volume is way too small and these issues should've been included in other volumes. But that's more of a comment on Marvel editorial than anything.

Looking forward to the next volume of Deadpool.

Deadpool raids the former domain of Uatu the Watcher in hopes of finding something that can destroy Madcap once and for all. This begins a galaxy spanning adventure that will pit Wade Wilson face-to-face with the Nova Corps, Asgardians, Brood and so much more.

In light of all the chaos, it appears Deadpool is doing something he's never done before- have fun! It's a vacation in space unlike any other!

Some of the best work by Gerry Duggan. Along with Wilson's trek through the stars, there's also a special story formed by collecteing 13 secret covers together starring the Merc with a Mouth and one of the most important characters in Marvel history in the past 40 years.

A really fun read right before the crap hits the fan for Deadpool in the Secret Empire storyline.

This collection only contains two issues, one of which is a special oversized issue.

First, Deadpool heads into space in the hopes if finding a weapon which can kill Madcap. He kills an unreasonable amount of aliens for no reason. With appearences by the Nova Corps, the Brood, Lady Sif and the Collector. This was entertaining, if excessive on the violence. (I'm not against violence when it's part of the plot, but by the end this was just page count filler.)

Then the Deadpool Secret Covers. Apparently the Deadpool team created a bunch of variant covers which are sequential art and told their own internal story. Enough of them were done to fill out an issue, and here it is. It's ... barely readable.

It's kind of weird how I could read this out of order and not have any inkling that I missed Volume 8.

Anyway, a lot of the tone here feels wrong.

It's also frustrating how often Duggan will step on his own joke. It would have been much funnier if we had only seen one side of the "Adsit and Deadpool are both in space even though Adsit went into space to avoid Deadpool" until they met. But Duggan thinks showing both sides works.

Also, Deadpool's relationship with brood symbiote was confusing.

Also, also, I'm not sure I buy that Deadpool is a better assassin that everyone in the universe. But that's what we're told.

A weird collection to be sure as its basically one oversized issue and then a random story thrown in for good measure. Wade heads to space in search of a weapon to kill Madcap. What could go wrong?? Well, in spectacular Deadpool fashion, nearly everything. The book does move the story along and there were enough laughs that its worth a read but its far from vital. The back-up tale involving variant covers was pointless. Solid art again especially in some of the funnier fight scenes. Overall, a decent enough, quick read.

This had been on my shelf for over a month and I kept on putting it for later. FInally, after a good day of work, I read it by the sun.

It is a fun Deadpool adventure albeit a totally anticlimatic end. Unless you're Adsit. haha. Hum.

Many various scifi references, from Star Trek to Star Wars, the Alien quadrilogy and so on. Am sure I have missed some.

I look forward to reading the next episode though. How is this going to end ?

If it feels a bit short, that's because it is. This collects only one real issue, even if it is a big one, and a bizarre story that was printed across the variant covers for the first 20 issues of Deadpool. The space story drags on a bit, but the variant cover story is actually pretty good, aside from being a really clever idea.

Likely my least favorite Duggan arc...basically Duggan finally takes the chance to mindlessly break stuff.
Varient cover story is quirky and interesting satire.

Missed this one the first time around and had to go back and fill in. Liked it. Love when DP gets crazy(er). Sorry he had to dump on Madcap, though. I'm gonna miss him.

Thoroughly enjoyable, and could probably be read on it's own without confusion even though its pretty late in the series.
