An absolutely perfect end to the trilogy! I can honestly say I had no idea how it was going to end; I wasn't even sure how I *wanted* it to end as the various twist and turns played out. Iris and Zeke's path is messy and wonderful and painful, and ultimately very real and hopeful. A brilliant trilogy that's just made for summer.
I listened to the whole trilogy on audio, and can highly recommend.
I didn’t really like the second book so I had lowered my expectations for this. All I can say is I was really surprised by how good this is and I enjoyed it more than the first two books in this series. This is the best one!
There are also many more twists and turns in this last instalment compared to the first and the second book. Some are shocking and some are devastating.
I also loved how the author portrayed the various types of relationship in this book. I think it’s rare to see that in other books especially the poly one. The characters are also very matured about it and I really respected that considering they are still teenagers.
Last but not least, Iris and Zeke are so much better especially towards the ending. A proof that they really need that break from each other.
Książka pełna pasji, miłości i przyjaźni.
This was a great conclusion to the trilogy. It really developed the story, and Iris's character in particular. I understood why Zeke was not present for much of the book but it did feel a little like his character development was short changed as a result. I loved how real and messy the characters were allowed to be, this made them all the more relatable.
This series just got better and better. A romance that felt very real. Reminding us what it was like to love for the first time. And if we didn't surf already, we'd certainly want to now.
This book was a great conclusion to an entertaining series. All three books are good summer reads, and there's so many things I liked about Ride.
The story was crafted with a kind of gritty realism that YA needs, whilst still giving me the ending I wanted for the two main characters.
I loved Iris, I loved her flaws. She messed up a lot, whilst still being a badass surfer chick. She was relatable in the way that she experienced love and loss and hit all the roadblocks in her career and relationship that normal people do.
I loved that the book drew attention to the problems women face in terms of sexual assault and harassment. It's also very lgbt friendly, which I love seeing in my books. I adored Kelly and Iris's friendship. I love books that emphasise the importance of friendship, particularly female friendships, and Ride does that spectacularly.
The plot was well constructed and made the book somewhat unputdownable at times.
Now let's talk about the reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5. The totally unrealistic plot twist at the end. The extremely unlikely car crash and the completely unnecessary death of Cass. Enough said.
Anyway, overall I really love this book and will be patiently awaiting Lisa Glass's next novel.
Ride is the Third and final book in the trilogy Blue.
Iris and Zeke go thru hard times in their lives facing adult decisions and looking for their own identity.
Iris struggles to find her place in Newquay again. She’s a celebrity now, the very definition of a local girl made good in a town where professional surfers are rock stars. She is different. Unwilling to admit the truth, even to herself, Iris lets her emotions overrule her head. She makes some mistakes and has to live with some unpleasant consequences. And every time she surfs, she is reminded of Zeke.
The delicious Zeke is absent for most of the story, but he’s written in so cleverly in flashbacks and conversations that I felt he was just off the page and ready to walk in at any moment.
The event at the end of the book left me almost heartbroken for a bit.
What I love about Lisa’s books is the fact that she shows the way life is, sometimes bumpy and dirty. That nobody is perfect but still we are all worth a lot, even if there are times when we don’t believe in ourselves. I hope to read more of Lisa’s books.
There were so many great characters we had to say goodbye to with this book and I wish the trilogy continued on.
In the last book of the trilogy, the action moves from gnarly waves to restless hearts. After the action-packed first two books that were real roller-coasters of emotions, Ride does't disappoint either. The way Iris struggles with her decision to leave Zeke sounds real and heartbreaking. Her search of her true self and the road to realizing what she wants to do with her life were gripping from the beginning to the end.
I thought the characterization of Iris was beautifully executed. When she went through so much pain and guilt that I thought she wouldn't be able to take it any more, she picked herself up and went on to becoming an even stronger person. Something similar could be said about Zeke. Both of them learned that recognizing their frailty was what made them stronger, happier and more successful.
I liked the unexpected events at the end as they kept the story suspenseful to the very last sentence. There were so many great characters we had to say goodbye to with this book and I wish the series continued on. Alas, I'll just have to re-read it again and again for another dose of the authentic surfing slang and to 'meet up' with old friends from Newquay again.
I read 'Ride', the last part of 'Blue' trilogy, in one day. The plot keeps reader's attention from the very beginning til the very end of the book. Iris and Zeke go thru hard times in their lives facing adult decisions and looking for their own identity. There were few plot twists that really surprised me, one of which left me almost heartbroken for a bit, until all was solved. What I love about Lisa's books is the fact that she shows the way life is, sometimes bumpy and dirty. That nobody's perfect but still we are all worth a lot, even if there are times when we don't belive in ourselves. I hope to read more of Lisa's books.
This book actually didn't make up for the bad end of Air. I hoped it would be better in this last part of the series, but it didn't. The story is still sweet en especially the end is nice. It reads quick, but the beginning en the middel is nothing special. A full review will be up on www.thebookdiaries.nl shortly (in Dutch).
