As urak hordes ravage the Rivers and push into the Norderlands, the Nine Kingdoms are slow to respond. The Red Church pursues its own agenda, the Magi keep their own council and the High King is caught up in the Game of Lords as many look for opportunity in the turmoil.
In the North, Nihm is trying to recover and come to terms with her loss. Struggling to understand what she has become and who she is. Trapped and surrounded by enemies, trust in a stranger might be her only salvation.
Running ahead of the invading urak, Renco is lost. Prisoner to a Red Priest, a man he both loathes and fears above all others, he becomes a pawn in a greater game.
Meanwhile, in Kingsholme far to the south, Tomas ‘The Mouse’ embarks on a commission to steal two artefacts from the Enclave, home of the Magi, little knowing that the path it sets him upon will change his life forever, in ways he could never imagine.
And beneath the turmoil, hidden in the shadows, lies the Morhudrim. Its reach and influence growing ever stronger as it spreads its malevolent tendrils wide.
I’m a writer of epic fantasy and I love it. It means I spend a lot of time in my head (probably too much if I’m honest) not only imagining my world but living the stories.
It’s pretty cool. I get to be everything; good and evil and all those fuzzy grey in-betweens, I cast magic, die heroically, plan epic battles, mess with and experience every emotion you can imagine. Get to be moral and immoral, do stupid things for the right reason and succeed when doing the wrong thing but hey, sometimes life is like that. Right?
Oh, and I get to make up new religions, races, people and magic systems that feel natural. I map build, create a history, plant a few hidden eggs along the way and plot the inevitable twist no one saw coming.
But apart from that – it is a grind….a b&llache of teeth grinding, rehashing, reviewing, rewriting, timelining and continuity checking. I love it all.
I hope that you will try my work and even more that you enjoy it. I would love for you to leave this mundane world behind for a few hours and visit mine.

Here we go. A. D. Green brings us from where we left off in book one to this next book in the series. If you haven't read the first one in a while, brush up, or use the character reference in the back as a multitude of characters appear for you to keep track of in this one. The first scene of the book will grab you, and then get ready to ride along for the rest of the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this second book, though, as I said, many character paths are developing, and some are continuing from the first book. I gave it five stars because the author put a lot of work into the storyline and entertained me. It will be interesting to see where the next book in the series takes us. Excellent work, good story, fun reading. This book is probably meant exclusively for adult audiences as some situations may not be teenage-appropriate.
In "Rivers Run Red" the first book in the series by Andrew D Green. I was introduced to a myriad of characters. In "Shadows Fall" the author conjures up images in the mind by his style of writing through exploring the allegiances of good and evil, creating a much darker tale.
The author certainly knows how to grab your attention and you find yourself so immersed in the characters as he builds the tale to a climax.. In the final chapter he then takes you on another path, leaving you wanting the next book's release.
From the first page to the end of the second book this series has gripped me..I will not give spoilers..read the series u will not regret it ...outstanding ...!!!! Can not wait for the next book ..please don't keep me waiting too long ...😁
I loved book one and I loved this sequel. The magical world, gritty plot, and wonderful storytelling would all compel me to continue reading book 3 when it comes out, but what really makes me long for it are all these great characters that A D Green has put to life in these books. Can't wait to see where it goes!
TLDR: A nice fantasy battle between good and evil with its flows.
The story was captivating, and the words enthralling. I love the word building and looking forward to how the various strings will come together. Green moves a myriad of characters in his word and we are not sure who will live and die which creates tension. Hovewer following such many characters at once after a week hiatus of reading requires a lot of mental effort. It was especially true for the uraks, they had similar names and I lost track of where our urak main character is. The author was not able to make the side characters memorable, and I had lost track that how many people are travelling with Amos and how many with Jacob and who is who. The camera is around various charters shoulders and we can hear their thoughts meanwhile talking and plotting against each other which makes reading fun and sometimes tiring. Green movies enormous armies around, making epic battles. Hovewer plate mail is as good as in the Lord of the Ring's movies. More often than not a plate mail would keep an arrow outside. And a knight would be quite stupid to remove the helmet and not the visor of his helmet when there is a fight around him. Probably most of the readers will not care about these details. I was a smidge disappointed at the ending. I expected at least some kind of closure of the book. We are far from the end. I loved what the queen do and looked for something similar in the other parts as well. Green knows how to end a story with a cliffhanger. I am looking forward to reading the next book with all of its minor falls it is still a good read who loves a good old fashioned epic fantasy.
Yes, yes. I know I'm the author but seriously what else could I rate myself.
I'm actually very proud of this book. It was a long labour of love and follows on from the first book 'Rivers Run Red' if you enjoyed that book this one is even better! Pinky swear.
I hope if you are thinking of reading my books that you will 'take a look inside' - don't be lulled by the gentle introduction in Book One to Nihm. Her life is about to change in ways she could not have imagined.
