Sixteen-year-old Jaxon Andersen doesn’t know anything about her origins and has been shuffled around different foster homes ever since she can remember. Trouble follows her, but bullies underestimate her small stature; she has an inexplicable strength, and she can kick some serious butt.
She tries for a fresh start at the Forever Welcome Group Home for Juveniles. Dr. Hollis, her psychiatrist, is fascinated by her intelligence and astounded by her strange powers. However, Jaxon is still an easy target for bullies. She seeks refuge in the company of Otto Heike, an eighteen-year-old athlete and boys’ resident assistant.
Will Otto think Jaxon’s a freak when he discovers her secrets?
Meanwhile, the US military, which is performing terrifying genetic experiments, is closing in on Jaxon…
4 stars - English Ebook - Quote from the book : my goal is to prove through desindants that Atlantis is real. There more out there with the Atlantis gen. 🌹🌹🌹 Although certific language is mixed in this tale. It isn’t disturbing or difficult. It is a tale that is floating. Like the main character a lot. She is strong! 🍀🍀🍀
Jaxon is a foster child stuck in a group home where she’s bullied. She has special abilities but she has to hide them as the government is hunting for people like her. The psychiatrist however takes an interest in her.
This is simply not my genre. The plot is solid and feels very familiar if you’ve seen or read other stories like this. With the government plot thread, there’s always a hint of suspense. And the protagonist is a pretty strong character. There’s just a lot of focus on a slow-burning romance in the group home that didn’t capture my interest.
The US government, the US military, and world-renowned scientists are all after one thing—the Atlantis gene, from the descendants of the lost island of Atlantis.
The MC is a foster child trying to hide her unique capabilities in order to protect herself, all the while just trying to blend in and be normal. As to be expected, right when things seem peaceful is when everything goes haywire.
These youthful characters are facing trials far beyond just the challenges of being rebellious teenagers. That was intriguing.
The writing kept me dutifully captivated and ensured that book 2 would be in my near reading future. Well done!

A wonderful start to a unique storyline. I love the mixture of Sci Fi and mystery. I'm still not certain who to trust. Once I started reading, I did not stop. I literally read this book in just under 2.5hrs. Already downloading the next.
Very nice story, intriguing plot as it evolves around the genes of Atlantis. Jaxon is a very small girl, but looks can be deceiving. Behind that look is a very smart and strong girl, to strong for her own good. After kicked out of so many foster homes, she is placed in a group home by the judge.
In this group home is no better, it seems that the bullies always find her. But something happens that she didn't foresee and their are other parties that seems to zone into her. Because of her unusual abilities she seems to be a target of the government. She is in great danger, can she outrun them?
Very nice action story with enough elements to keep you going. All fascinating when they are looking for the Atlantis gene.
2.75 The biggest issue I have with this book is that it feels unfinished. In a series, yes, the story continues, and there can be a cliffhanger, but a book should feel complete. An entire book should not be only used to "set-up" or "world-build" but should have it's own storyline while you do the other stuff. It's rather short as it is for YA, so it could have been a full story while setting up the rest. Develop the characters a bit more, even lean into the cliffhanger a bit more.
However, I enjoyed the story until the ending. The mix of sci-fi, fantasy, and mystery was intriguing and kept me guessing. I trust no one yet, and find Jaxon to be a somewhat interesting character, even if the rest of the characters are a bit bland and flat. Still debating if the rest of the series will have an actual "novel" or if it's just one story spread out over 7 books.
A fun, quick read. At times the writing was a little painful ("time slowed to a crawl for the girl who wasn't anything like other girls"), but I found the story interesting and enjoyed seeing the different threads start to come together. Though there wasn't that much focus on the genetic side of things, it was enough to keep me curious, and the government conspiracy and magical power elements were definitely fun. I enjoyed seeing Jaxon slowly learn more about herself and come to trust some of the other characters, and I was definitely curious about the other characters too. Overall an enjoyable read, and I'm looking forward to seeing what will happen in the next book.
Very... eh, I don’t know how to describe it. I wanted to put it down from close to the start, but I wanted to see what happened, so kept reading. I liked the characters mostly, but it’s all very drama laden and angsty... but that was just the type of story. It also didn’t seem to have much in the way of ‘dressing’. It was a lot of angst to angst to angst, with no support story or transitions. It was too short and too long, not enough and too much. I’m sure others will enjoy, but it missed for me.
I’m not sure why i finished this book. There were extraneous details that did nothing to develop the plot or characters throughout the book. Many of them didn’t even make sense. There were words that were misused; things is correct in grading a high schooler’s paper. And to make matters worse, it was more like the first half of a book with absolutely no closure
I love the Jaxon character she is a very relatable to me my husband was in the system and ended up like she did in a group home. I like how the doctor explains how the gene came about most of the time the people in the story's just get powers and you accept it it a cool you move on but you usually don't get the whole why part.the book was a supper easy read easy to get in to
General Meade is out of control! Convinced that America is completely unprepared to protect ourselves from the aliens, currently kidnapping humans surreptitiously, Meade seeks humans with unusual abilities, then cloisters them and harvests DNA to create super soldiers who will protect us from the alien attack Meade believes is coming. Civil rights are just words to the General. Until he tries to abduct Jaxon!
I can’t remember how I came across this book but I’m so glad I did. I really enjoyed reading about Jaxon and Otto and how Jaxon came to be at the group home. I enjoyed the way this story unfolded with the dark element hiding in the background until almost the end. I look forward to reading the next book on Jaxon’s journey.
You can't help but feel for the heroine and route for her. As she faces one from situation after another you see her continue to fight through. Where and with who has she ended up? She was finally excepted and excelling when everything fell apart. What will happen to her? Can't wait to read the next book to see what happens next!
This book is a very smart introduction book to a series. The characters are well developed and they move the story along. The lead character Jaxon is interesting in both her own story and her relationship to others. This is a book that allows you to suspend your disbelief and escaped to the world of series.
The Atlantis Girl is the the first book in The Atlantis Saga series. This should not be read as a standalone as it ends in a cliffhanger. I was expecting more from this book based on the description. It wasn't bad, just average and not as good as I think it could have been. I'm not yet sure if I will read more of this series.
The book overall was good. It took me a few starts to get going, because it's not something I would ordinarily read. The characters didn't ding with me, but I could see potential. I just felt it was more science than character. I don't know, I really couldn't get into the book, and not that it was bad. It's just not my cup of tea.
I believe that this is only the second of third book I have ever read with a subject of Atlantis. Cool story with superb writing. I thoroughly enjoyed it and plan to keep reading the series.
First time reading this author. So glad I got book, it was wonderful; it's filled with great characters, had thrills, chills, surprise's, evil most of the foul. Very different world building and I can't wait to get the next book in this thrilling series.
Wauw this was one book full of romance, twists, turns, horrors and true sci-fi! Man this was better than expected when I started to read this. Once I have read some other books on my list I'll for sure start with the second book in this series. I am very curious to know how it goes further!!
This book could be very good however, I do not like the way it jumps from one location to another. The ending leaves you hanging, thus forcing you to purchase another book to continue the story.
Author freebie. A YA story about a girl with unusual genetics. This is slow moving first book. Things will begin to happen in later novels. This novel is all about the background.
Good Atlantis series of good vs evil. Author paints a great picture of participants and themes. Evil conspiracy is too expectant. In our COVID world, a difficult read.
This story was relatable if you grew up in foster care or a group home setting. It was written for a young adult but was a straightforward read. I enjoyed it and would recommend this story saga to any young person to read.
The author did a good job developing characters that drew me into the story, and created a situation that made me feel like the main character was in serious danger.
