Fans Of The Dom's Submission Will Be Thrilled To Read About Terry And Maggie And Their New Life Together!
La Petite Mort Club is a private club catering to those with similar interests in kink and offering a safe place to meet up and indulge. This is the fourth book in La Petite Mort Club Intimate Encounters series. Each is a quick read.
His Imperfect Day is a stand-alone that follows Terry and Maggie's story from The Dom's Submission. It covers Terry and Maggie's first day of their family vacation to the beach. It comes after the couple spends a weekend at the club. Books one and three of the series, His Lesson and His Love, tell that story. Book two, Playing House, tells the story of Nick and Sarah’s weekend watching Maggie’s three young children.
From The Dom's Submission:
Terry, in his mid forties, fell for Maggie when she bumped into him at La Petite Mort Club, where he had been a member for years following his difficult divorce. It was obvious that she had never been there before and was desperately looking for someone. She reminded him of a scared little rabbit. Short, curvy, and innocent, she was definitely not his type, but he had to have her. He hadn't needed to chase a woman in years, and Maggie put his patience to the test. Even after her seduction she proved to be a challenge that he couldn't walk away from. He tried, but it hurt too much, and his friends from the club were no help. They thought she was good for him.
Maggie had only been divorced a year when her ex-sister-in-law and former friend lured her, unsuspecting, into a private club for a rowdy open night event. While she never found her friend inside, she did acquire an admirer. Unfortunately, the single mom of three, ages two to eight, didn't have the time for a relationship and wasn't into flings. But the arrogant, rude, brutally honest hunk of man pursued her until all her silly excuses melted away. The man wanted nothing to do with her children, so though she gave in to some adult fun, she knew it was only temporary.
Terry eventually comes to terms with his need to have Maggie in his life, children and all, and Maggie realizes that underneath his rudeness, the man she has grown to love is a kind and very good man.
From La Petite Mort Club Intimate Encounters:
This series opens several months after the couple works things out. Maggie and the children now live with Terry and his dog, Beast. Terry, who hasn't taken a vacation in years, has agreed to take his family away for a ten day vacation over spring break. He makes good use of their time away, hiring a contractor to soundproof the master bedroom in their absence. That way hearing Maggie scream as he pleasures her will no longer be confined to every other weekend when the children visit their father.
Maggie arranges a surprise for Terry's birthday. Immediately preceding their trip, their friends Nick and Sarah agree to watch the children so that she and Terry can spend a weekend at the club. This is a momentous occasion because Terry has never brought Maggie there. She is new to his world and is still learning how to be a sub; he cannot be as forgiving with her at the club. Additionally, she will be on display and doesn't want to embarrass Terry, who has a reputation for his control.
Terry doesn't believe she is ready, but Maggie wants so much to please him that she willingly takes the plunge. Nevertheless, she still harbors insecurities that could derail their weekend. She fears that Terry hasn't brought her there yet because he is embarrassed by her. And more importantly, despite Terry's constant reassurances about her beauty, Maggie has not recovered from the body shaming she received from her ex-husband who left her when she hadn't lost her baby weight, calling her fat. She isn't comfortable in her own skin, so displaying herself for others to see will take considerable courage.
In His Imperfect Day:
Terry and Maggie leave the club feeling refreshed, but once they pick up the kids from Nick and Sarah the reality of family life returns. Terry had made a mistake over their weekend at the club that he has every intention of rectifying. Toward that effort, he plans a perfect first day of vacation. It includes the beach and a picnic, followed by some alone time and a sincere admission of his love for Maggie. Terry had let it slip that he loves her over the weekend, but hadn’t meant for it to come out the way it had, nor for it to be under such circumstances. She has been open about her love for him, but he had sworn off love years ago. As difficult as it is, he needs open his heart to her.
When Terry’s perfect plans turn topsy-turvy, his patience is put to the test. Maggie’s ex-husband had a short fuse, so she is particularly sensitive to how others treat her children. She also has insecurities and is still adjusting to being a Sub, so making it through a perfect day with the kids was already going to be a challenge. But as one after another of Terry’s plans are a miss, he resigns himself to failure. Then it gets even worse. But at the end of their imperfect day together, Terry and Maggie find that the chaos has only served to bring them closer together.
Fans of The Dom's Submission will be thrilled to read about Terry and Maggie and their new life together. The story of their first day of family vacation at the beach is la light-hearted look into their family life and the challenges they face raising Maggie’s three young children. This is a very quick read, though the writing is sometimes tedious. The plot is very simple. The characters are well-defined in context (having the read The Dom's Submission). Terry pulls out all the stops here to show Maggie how much he loves her and her children. Maggie’s self-image is improved and she discovers how much she enjoys being a caretaker. It is written in the third person. The POV alternates between Terry and Maggie. I rate this book 3.5 stars.
