Broken Circles #1

Summer Storm

Rate this book
Yannick Ischmov had everything he never wanted. Money, notoriety, and the wife. The unconventional contract that held him to his biggest regret had an expiration date; one he was counting the days down to. Fifteen years of penance paid would have been easier behind a cell door, instead, he walked free and bore the weight of the shackles imposed upon him.

Jolie Summers lived in her own private hell. A scornful mother and little desire to change her life, she was content to muddle on through, not expecting more than she was given. Uninteresting was an apt word to describe the woman people affectionately called ‘Bunny’.

They’d met once before, an unpleasant experience, and their paths should never have crossed again. But they did, and the second time was far more exciting than the first. While Yannick was moving on, Jolie was standing still, yet something… something stirred between them.

Yannick pushed; Jolie pulled.
Jolie fell, Yannick rose.
Everything in between was one step closer to that perfect summer storm.

A man with a past he was ready to walk away from, Yannick ached to live the life he’d always desired. Just so happened, he’d found the woman he wanted to share it with too, and she wanted nothing to do with him.

Klaire is a multi genre author who has a passion for reading and more often than not, can be found with her nose stuck in a book. She loves angsty, dark reads but is not averse to the fun, light hearted side either. Typically, a romance reader, of most genres/sub genres, her passion for literature and written words goes back to her childhood when she always dreamed of writing and telling the world her stories.

Not quite a stay at home mum, Klaire has a busy life which she shares with her husband of twenty-five years and her little monkey boy. Her adult children have flown the coop already, but still manage to come home for ‘mama’s lasagne.’ EOL Nurse and business owner are her daytime realities.

Avid eater of mayonnaise and chips, anti-get fitter, lover of cheesy music and a fierce advocate of things close to her heart. She has a bucket list as long as her arm, which includes sky diving and visiting Cambodia. And wants to travel the world.

Great believer in second chances, insta-love (because her love is a product of that), fairy tales and monsters… Klaire just wants to write all the words for you.

This is a well written, gritty, hard-hitting story which had me on the edge of my seat for much of it. It took me a while to get into but once I did I just had to keep turning the pages to find out what happened.

With characters, you can most definitely hate, there are a few who I really liked. Despite his reputation, and it is a well deserved one, hard man Yannick has a soft side and I liked him for that. He wants to reinvent his life and get away from the hell it has been, not an easy thing to do with the ties he has. I loved Jolie, she has such a tough life but with so much potential, I so wanted her to find happiness. Together these two are at face value so incompatible it's not surprising that Jolie wants nothing to do with Yannick, but then they could just work.

If you like a dark tale, with graphic scenes, some redemption and lots of great characters then I recommend that you one-click this one asap.

K.A. Sands has once again written a story that I couldn’t put down. She is one of a few authors that I one-click without a second thought and having read everything that she has published I can say hand on heart that I have never been left disappointed. Summer Storm is the first book in a new series and I’m already desperate for more!

This author spoils us by creating the most incredible leading men and once again I found that I willingly handed my heart over to our man in Summer Storm, Yannick. He may be the well respected leader of a ruthless mob, but this isn’t a role that he ever wanted. Now that a contract that he found himself bound by has expired, Yan has the opportunity to put the last 15 years of his life behind him and move forward in a different direction -which won't be easy given his status and history, and I love that he has found himself a very good reason to ensure that this will happen.

I have a huge amount of respect for Jolie. She has not had the easiest of times over the years and I loved seeing the strength and determination that she possesses. She is perfect for Yan but they lead very different lives and although there is an instant attraction, she isn’t afraid to get the answers she needs in order to decide if any sort of relationship with him is feasible. She can take care of herself too, which for anyone in Yan’s circle I feel is necessary.

What I enjoyed about this mob/mafia story is that I felt it focused more on the man and not his dealings, though we do see how Yan operates at times and this actually gave me a greater understanding of him. The men in his close circle of friends are amazing and I hope we see much more of them throughout the series.

I recommend Summer Storm to you without hesitation, and thankfully we don’t have too long to wait until the next book releases in December 2020.

This is an extremely well written story that I really enjoyed reading. I especially enjoyed getting acquainted with the characters who were all really easy to connect to, even the ones I knew I shouldn't really like, I still felt drawn to. This is a gritty edge of your seat story with romance flowing freely throughout.

Yannick is the head of the mob if you want to call them that, not by choice but by default, a guilt that he lives with every day of his life. He has a reputation and rightly so, people fear him and the power that he holds so when he meets Jolie I got to see a different side to Yannick because Jolie is a breath of fresh air in his claustrophobic world and he gravitates towards her. Jolie brings out Yannick softer side, the more gentle romantic side which was lovely to experience. Jolie was a great character even though she had been through so much turmoil in her life, this young lady was so determined and strong and knew her own mind. She certainly gives Yannick a run for his money and doesn't give in to his charms as easily as he would have liked.

There is plenty to keep you occupied in this story, secondary characters are very interesting and already I'm hoping they get their own stories. My one niggle would be, if you are going to write about the Mob/gangs etc then I would have liked a bit more darkness, more intel into their work bringing it into the story more. Apart from that this is very much a recommended read from this up and coming author.

A really sweet Mafia romance. Not what I usually read but something made me pick this up.

I liked that the FMC, Jolie, was a survivor. She was 'innocent', but not virginal or weak. She stuck to her guns and made Yannick work for her love. You don't see that sort of thing much in MF romance.
