I'm the author of deliciously dark, sexy, and thrilling MM fiction in various genres. I corrupt readers with salacious tales of possessive men staking their claims on the men who make their blood rise in certain places. I know... I should be ashamed, but I'm shameless. I'm a public menace that can't be stopped, and my characters are rude, sassy, charming, arrogant, and hotter than sinners in hell. They tell me what they want and I follow orders. Audio - 3 Stars Matt Williams is new to me. He has a 5-star voice and is very talented when it comes to accents and giving character distinct voices. Unfortunately, he spent most of the audio reading instead of performing. When he did perform, he was amazing. The audio quality was also not the greatest.
Story - 3 Porn with Plot Stars
The story didn't feel like a romance at all to me. There was no clear love interest and definitely no relationship development between any of the characters. Deacon just did his thing with whoever he wanted, wherever he wanted, whenever he wanted. The sex scenes were totally emotionless.
What I enjoyed were the action scenes and the revenge that Deacon meted out on the people who did him wrong.
I have the audio of the book. Dialog is done well and the narrator has a nice voice, but the story narration itself is very flat, dull, and emotionless. Straight up reading with little to no inflection.
I feel bad for what Deacon went through as a child. That said, this is not an enjoyable read. (And I am usually a fan of dark.) Once they brought a woman into the mix as a love interest, it pushed me over the edge into that's enough territory.
My only regret is not reading more about Royce, who was actually the only likeable character in the entire book.
Deacon was everything I wanted and more..Nicholas really out did himself with this..What I didn't expect is how sorry I felt for Deacon I now understand why he's so despicable he's a product of his upbringing..He had to lie to survive and gain what he wanted..He's my favourite alpha all wrapped up in one snazzy pin stripped suit.
Simple e infantil tanto en la prosa como en la trama. 2,5* máximo Sólo recomendado para los que han leído los otros libros de la serie, aunque realmente no aporta nada y es de mucha menor calidad Podía habérselo ahorrado!
So I have to admit I never liked Deacon. With his cocky swagger and arrogant additude I thought of him as a pathetic fleabag. This book made me see him differently. I still can't say he's my favorite creature but I understand his motives a little more now. Now that Charlene she's one scary wolf!! I would not want to have her as an enemy!! If you want to know more then read Deacon and see for yourself.
I was a bit apprehensive at the start of reading this book, maybe because deacon isn't a favourite of mine (team theoden all the way) and yet as was before I came to like deacon and his crafty ways to adapt to a situation and survive. It was lovely to go back to the beginning of deacon and see how life has shaped him and for all his misdeeds that he's done he isn't quite the villain that I'd portrayed him as. He's no Angel, but oh my God my heart broke for him in some places. This is a character that you could get your teeth stuck into, he was a bucket of complexity which makes him an exciting read as you just don't know what he's going to do next. I really enjoyed his family dynamics and just the loyalty and things each member was willing to do, and I loved how we got the explanation of how Elliot the big brute came to be. What we found or more likely confirmed deacon to be is he's patient, calculating and willing to adapt to suit his needs, a chameleon until such situations you feel his teeth. This book was scorching with heat, plot and had those sad moments. There was some little proof reading errors but it wasn't enough to distract me from the story which I read in one sitting. Having another explanation for the great fire of London kindly due to deacon really cemented this book as a great read integrating real events and mastering them to suit the story. I'm still team theoden but I can appreciate deacon even more now and look forward to even more mischief from this wayward wolf.
First of all let me tell you one thing clear: I hate Deacon! I'm Team Theoden all the way, I'm a Theoden slave through and through. And Tylendel... ;) But Deacon, no.
I wanted to know his story and was really curious about his history, how he became that weak ass alpha he is today. LOL
The book was really good, just the same perfection you know you'll get when it's from NB. Deacon's story was a good and interesting one, I enjoyed reading about his young age and what he nedded to do to survive.
I noticed one funny thing he got with the E- names... Elias, Elliott and later Elijah... I see! LOL
Elias's character was good and I was sad how the things turned out later on, I was mad and heartbroken for Deacon, Elias was a big thing in his life. But he needed to grow up and survive.
I still don't like Deacon because it's those things he did and does still - he isn't strong, he plays games to became the one and only, and I can't accept those. Respect, but not accept. On the other hand there is perfect Theoden who is strong and clever as hell, and Deacon is weak and not clever - just playing games. Okay, at the end of the day he got everything he wanted, and suffered enough for those things, but no, I can't like him still.
I loved when Elliott came into the picture, their friendship was everything. And Charlene, wow! She was a perfect match for Deacon. And I liked the baby wolves too, Deacon's family is really really big. The pack things was really cool, and I loved the dragon/wolf war too. I didn't know Deacon came from London. Theoden from Italy, Deacon from London...I'm curious where does Tylendel come from.
The ending... *sigh* those scenes shows exactly why I can't like someone like Deacon - he did EVERYTHING to be Alpha. Those things... it needed to be done, but it still hurt.
So, the book was amazing, the writing style, the emotions, the plot - everything was awesome and well written. I really couldn't put it down, I read it in one go. Loved the book. But not the person behind it - Deacon.
Nicholas Bella did it and wrote a book I could love but still hate it's main character. Well done job, mister! And now back to waiting, because I NEED Tylendel's story like...right now?!
Deacon’s idyllic life is irrevocably changed at 10 yrs old when a rival werewolf pack kills his family and forces him into their service. Deacon learns to fight, rises through the ranks, and bides his time. Over the years that follow he wreaks vengeance on all those who had a hand in that day and eliminates anyone else who stands in his way … slowly, inexorably fighting his way to the top.
Like all Nicholas Bella novels, this origin prequel is graphic in sex and violence, but much more sombre than other stories—certainly it was a lot unhappier than Theoden, the other origin prequel for this series. Deacon is such an antihero: we watch him lie, use, and betray to feed his ambition, and yet he elicits a devoted loyalty from his wives, children, and acolytes. This reads like a Shakespearean tragedy as Deacon leaves a trail of bodies in his wake and I could appreciate the big stakes and high drama. However, it’s certainly not a romance of any sort: Deacon sleeps with any male or female he fancies and there’s very little emotional connection involved. The message here is we are the product of our environment and experiences, both good and bad. Overall, I’m looking forward to the rest of the series. 🎧 I didn’t mind Matt Williams’ audio narration. I’m guessing he’s an American actor because although he did a credible job of all the British and Scottish accents, he pronounced a bunch of words quite strangely. That might also explain why he sounded flat and emotionless at times.
One of the New Haven characters we all love to hate has his day in the sun.
Deacon, The cunning and calculating Wolfpack alpha comes from a violent background. His tale will help you understand why he does some of the things he does and how he manipulates situations to his advantage. Seeing the man behind the plots and plans as a intelligent survivor who is capable of love and loyalty is extremely eye-opening for readers of this series.
As A prequel this can be read as a standalone, but definitely will have you wanting to read the entire series. Which I highly recommend all of the new haven and Orion series if you were a fan of dark supernatural novels. Always well written characters and world building with a Nicholas Bella novel.
Deacon was one of my least favorite characters of the series, I found him very manipulative and had no basis for why he did the things he did to get ahead and to get his pack more land. After this novel I definitely have a little more like for him and a lot more respect.
The audible version is astounding of this novel. The narrator draws you into the story and you can smell the desperation and anxiety that this character is put through. One of the best narrators in the business has woven this tale of strength and perseverance. Don’t pass this opportunity up to hear the rich towns of this narrators voice.
This is a background story for one of the driving forces in the New Haven series, but can be read seperately if you hadnt read the series yet.
I loved learning of Deacon's background story. He is a very interesting character in the main series and this prequel put a lot of the puzzle pieces in place regarding his rise to power and understanding the way he ticks and views the world. There is a good amount of descriptions of gorey death, mentions of child sexual abuse, and descriptive sexual acts with both men and women. They all come as part of showing a side to Deacon's personality and growth as a character and are woven skillfully into the events of the book.
I love the tidbits of details and information that show the research that went into this story. I laughed out loud at the mention of a very historical event woven seamlessly into the character's actions.
Really, I feel that compared to the New Haven series this book is relatively light, but its is still a dark erotica and not recommended for the weak of heart.
Deacon: A New Haven Series Prequel is the prequel I never knew I wanted. I absolutely love the New Haven Series but have to admit Deacon was never one of my favourites. Nevertheless, I was interested to get some more backstory on the villain/anti-hero of the series. I didn't expect it to get so dark so quickly, but I guess you don't just turn into a ruthless alpha overnight. I did find myself feeling, not sorry for Deacon exactly, but I can definitely see why he became so unforgiving and single-minded in his ambition. I liked how his story spanned so many years and ended at about the same time he entered the New Haven story line. It just made me want to read the series and enjoy it all over again. I can't wait to see where this author will take this series next!
I'm a huge fan of Nicholas Bellas and his New Haven series, it's in my opinion one of the best Dark paranormal crazy series that I ever read and it's in my top 5 series. I've met Deacon in this series, and I hated his gut. In my mind, he's an insufferable , overconfident A%%%%%. In this book we have the birth of Deacon, we learn how Deacon became Deacon, what he has been through and why he is like that. We follow Deacon throughout the centuries and we're the witness of his evolution. As usual, Nicholas Bellas gives us his best, Deacon is a complex character and explaining all the layers of his personality isn't an easy task, but Nicholas did it with brio. It was interesting and captivating, i couldn't stop reading until the end and I adored it, i really adored this book. I won't say that I became a Deacon's Fan (Josef and Marco got my heart for now) but I can say that I kind of like him and most importantly respect him.
This book was a great prequel to one of the werewolf Alphas. Was not expecting how crazy his backstory was. Author did great with how he handled the early years of deacons time with Winston. This book may be seen as possible triggers for some but the books have always not been for everyone which is why the author tells you in advance that it may not be for all. I personally LOVED and can’t wait to see what we get for the Dragons prequel.
This was such a great read. I was so engrossed in the way Deacon's life progress. I was surprised how long it took him to challenge Julie for the Alpha's position. I love how Deacon respected his wives as well as his best friend's. This story was very informative in how the supernatural's gain control. Nicholas Bella continues to build an awesome storyline that no one can duplicate. ⚘⚘⚘
It has been a long time since I've read a character that I just love to hate. And then you go and write this masterpiece and now I just hate to love him. I cried for Deacon. I yelled and cheered him on to be that Boss. Each and every addition to this series gives me fever!! Deacon is one wild and cut that journey and deserves 10🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠. *****I wouldn't sleep in the same town as wife #1. JS*****
I don't know I could not finish it but I like the author?
Rating is more for the author I could not finish the book BUT I know in the past that I've read this author and enjoyed the novels. I guess I'm getting tired of shifter stories depending on a overly gruesome horrifying sexually violent past or beginning to make a reliable story for the author. Greater and greater heavy dependence on violence to create the stories.
I've been dying to know more about Deacon since he first showed his shaggy head in the Odin Chronicles. I've never trusted him, to me he's always been a shady S.O.B. and this just proves I'm right. But I guess what he went through in his life from 10 on kind of explains his mentality. I loved this look into Deacon and his pack.
Loved learning the background life of this New Haven series character. His story actually began to change my bad feelings about this "villain" character. Nicolas is such an excellent writer. I could feel Deacon's fear as his family was attacked early in his life. This entire New Haven series is awesome.
I so wanted to hate this character! I really did. Now, well, I still don't like him, but I have a much better understanding of him. I definitely didn't expect this wild ride of a story, but then again, how could I underestimate the great Nicholas Bella? What was I thinking? Of COURSE it was a great read! Read this NOW!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for this prequel!! It was great to really know how Deacon became the Alpha that he is. And I knew Elliot was a big burly guy, but man, man!! Already read what comes next..a few times, but this was still a great read!!!
Love the entire series. Have reread them over and over. I get lost in this world the author has created. To get to know Deacon more and how he became who he is. Love ten stars!
Great! Love these prequel additions to characters that I've already loved and get more of. Deacon is surprising in the best ways and getting his backstory was perfect. Bella always delivers a great complex character with all the right touches. Dark, kinky and sexy. Can't wait for the next.
This book is good! I will definitely follow the series. This book is about Deacon. It starts out with the destruction oops his original pack and his rise to alpha in his new pack. Of course he rise was not without challenges. But he is cunning man surrounded by smart and loyal people.
A very good paranormal book . The characters are hard to like tbh but that makes them amazing. Read trigger warnings on this as it’s very dark in places . Highly recommended
Deacons story was one powerful read. I now have a better understanding on what shaped him into the Alpha he is today. I got shredded when reading his time with Winston. Nicholas Bella let Deacon know he has my up most respect. Only a true Alpha could make it out of those tough circumstances as strong as Deacon did.
