The Boneless Dungeon #1

The Boneless Dungeon: Rebirth

Rate this book
In a world of sword and sorcery, Breck died and was reborn as a dungeon core, a specialized living gem in charge of creating and managing a dungeon. Unlike most dungeons, he was handicapped with the inability to create bones, the very building blocks that comprise most living creatures. Breck just wants his life back, his humanity, and will do whatever it takes to achieve his goal. Even if that means killing the hordes of adventurers that want to plunder his depths so that he can gain the power to transcend.

Zach, a new adventurer, is given the quest to find the source of new cosmic energy that has made itself known, the same cosmic energy that creates dungeon cores. It’s the lucky break he’s been waiting for his whole life. But he’ll face opposition that will see him dead before they let him complete his quest.

Despite his inability to create monster’s with bones, can Breck gain enough essence to rank up and become human again or will he be forever trapped as a dungeon? Will Zach be able to live long enough to complete his quest while other guild members are hunting him? What happens when Zach’s and Breck’s paths collide? Find all this out and more in this exciting GameLit, The Boneless Dungeon: Rebirth.

I live outside Buffalo NY with my wife, 2 dogs and 2 cats. By day I work as a Contracts Manager but I’m a writer by night.

After enjoying several Fantasy and LitRPG books, I decided it was time to create my own cast of characters and world to put them in. It has been a huge investment of time and a lot of late nights but I’m also ready to share my story with the world.

I hope that you get as much enjoyment out of it as I have writing it.

Quite good

A nice dungeon/adventuring book with a cultivation based growth system. A pretty good read, the only problem is the incredible appreciation for very small rewards in relation to the amount of deaths. Every dungeon delver is incredibly excited over a few coper coins and ignores the fact that they lost half their party. At one point one says that they will live a few weeks of 3 or 4 copers but then a night at a in and a meal costs six copers. Then a simple meal in the dungeon town costs a silver so basically 2 people's lives were worth les than a meal and adventurers still delve in the dungeon?

Enjoyed it a lot

I love Dungeon Core books, and this one added some very nice little niche spins to the formula, revitalising my interest with every chapter! Cannot wait for book 2!

Good although short

Overall a good example of the genre. I think the dungeon is powering up a bit fast and a few things felt dues ex machina, but honestly, I enjoyed it quite a bit so I'm giving it 5 stars.

Fun book in new series..

Good : The author has a good sense of humor and it shows in his writing. The characters are likable and decently developed.

The bad : I could have kept reading this book for days, I really wanted it to be longer. So technically this belongs in the good category. But still... I hate waiting for follow-up books with the initial books are so much fun to read. :)

Fun

This was a fun read. It reads more as a young adult book; straight forward and uncomplicated. The story focuses more on Zach (a low level adventurer) than on the dungeon, but there’s only so much a dungeon can do... there are numerous edits needed; mostly homonyms (your, you’re) and common misuse (than, then). And two notable errors; once pouched used instead of pounced, and once towards the end the character Zach is called Luke. In all an enjoyable first novel.

Great dungeon book

Very interesting read. Like the two points of view from the dungeon and adventure. No harsh language or sex. Just a good read

So this is a tough one.

I like the overall story. But the characters need work. The two main ones have fallen on the idiot side of things too often rather than the novice side. Also the villain development is very lacking, going psycho at the end for no credible reason. The story is solid overall, the dungeon building is good. Just work on character story building and this could easily be a four or five star series.

*disclaimer, I narrated the audiobook*

So much fun!!
I am new to LitRPG... and I have seen that some more hardcore fans thought it took too long to “get to the action”.
I thought it was perfect pacing. As a noob I needed all the back ground, the rules, the lay of the land that Devin provides. AND he does it with wit and humor. I read sooo many dark/ heavy books... this was so much fun. Adventure, friendship, quirky character, and lots of laughs. I’m hooked! Bring on Book 2!

Nice dungeon read

Good job Mr Author. It was a fun read with the different characters and I enjoy the switch off between humans and dungeons. The kobolds were a nice touch. Thank you for writing!

Good Read

Highly enjoyable, dungeon seems a bit op. And the adventurers are pretty blasé about losing party members. On one hand they are overjoyed at getting a few copper coins, but then that same amount is barely enough to buy a night at an Inn.

Great addition to dungeon core genre!

I loved it! Not enough dungeon core books out there so it's great to read another one that's a quality work.

Wonderful Series

I am really enjoying this series. Who would’ve thought of a boneless dungeon. I love the twist and the writing.

Fairly average copy of divine dungeon.

-Characters are a bit flat. So far everyone was either amazing, or awful. The banter between them is lacking in execution. The main "conflict" (if it can even be called that) is uninteresting, with a borderline crazy anthagonist. The characters also have the irritating habit of stopping to shit-talk in the middle of the (pretty mediocre) fight scenes.
-The whole litrpg aspect was relevant for maybe 2 whole paragraphs in the intro chapter, then the book became a not too deeply developed cultivation story.
-The writing is pretty basic, but hopefully the author will get better with each new installment.
-Dungeon mechanics could use some further exploration.

I know, these are mostly bad points, and I didn't really enjoy the book. So why the 3 (which means mediocre btw) stars? The answer is easy: this is still one of the least rage-inducing dungeon core books I had the (lack of) pleasure of reading. (My all time top 5 dungeon core series are basically Dungeon Robotics 4.5 times, with the remaining 0.5 being the good (first) half of Divine Dungeon). So while I didn't really enjoy it, since it wasn't really bad, I'll probably still listen to the next book.

I like the dungeon Core genre a lot and was super excited about the book (Audiobook), but it didn't really fulfil my expectations.

The Story starts pretty basic which is not bad in itself, but it doesn't get any deeper than that and this hurts the overall plot. The characters stay bland, very bland. I couldn't bring myself to like the "Hero-Character" or care much about the dungeon core, it's missing a lot of depth.

At least the Author is consistent with this, the mechanics and progress also feel shallow. There is not much explanation and everything feels more like hand-waving than a thought out magic/dungeon concept. (Even though it does lean heavily on the concept of The Divine Dungeon series)

Calling the book overall 'bad' would be wrong in my opinion, it is an early work of an Author that is still learning, but it is definitely not in the same league as other well written Dungeon Core books.

Auspland seems to be making his series in the vein of Krout's Divine Dungeon series. He doesn't quite achieve it, but it's still reasonably well written.

My main, albeit small, gripe it the loot rewards given in the dungeon aren't really sufficient to make people believably want to risk death in there. At least the monetary rewards. Also the mortality rate seems too high. Enough so that I don't think that many people would actually challenge the dungeon. Or at least that's what I get from the way it's portrayed.

Needs some technical/editing work, but decent story.

1) Spiders don't have heads. Their head parts are in what we would call our torso - their Cephalothorax.
2) Swords are kept in sheaths or scabbards, not holsters.
3) Some time researching medieval armor parts' proper names and mythological/fantasy monsters might improve this as well.
4) MC is inexperienced, which is fair for a beginner in a story, but also has near zero personality.

This is VERY reminiscent of Dungeon Born. It's good, but there's a lot of shared similarities. Is there some sort of 'tree in the core room' trope going on somewhere else? It doesn't even really make sense for this one, he's an insect dungoen.

Cuts out the expected tedious parts

I enjoyed the book very much and was happily surprised with instead of a long drawn out history of cultivating or things like that the book instead tries to move the story along and gives us more action. Plus the characters of Zach and Breck interest me

Unique Story

This story of a future dude dying in an elevator crash and being reborn as a boneless dungeon was very interesting. The start was a tad boring, but got interesting further in the book.

enjoyable

A good dungeon story and a separate but intertwined hero/dungeon delver story . I must admit after a slow start I really got into this book and finished it in one sitting. Really hope book two is out …..

Surprisingly fun, truly buzz worthy

While the story is slightly slow to start for a dungeon core novel the intriguing world and enjoyable cast of characters means that once it gets you booked it proves impossible to put down.

Great dungeon idea

This was a unique way of going about the dungeon core idea. I can’t wait to see what comes next in the series.

If A Dungeon Core Is Restricted From Creating Creatures With Bones, What's Left To Populate Its Dungeon?

The answer is Insects, Arachnids, Slimes, and Plants. And though Breck, the Boneless Dungeon's Core, cannot create monsters with bones, he can recruit monsters and natural creatures who do to live in his Dungeon. The Big Question is: Can these measures return him to the Earth he left behind?

This novel will likely appeal to fans of the Fantasy and LitRPG genres, as well as those who enjoy playing RPGs.
