Scandal is rampant in Estes Park, and this time even the chipmunks are talking about it…
Summer is on its way, and so is Winifred Page’s birthday. While her corgi, Watson, naps in the sunshine and dreams of delicious pastry crumbs at the Cozy Corgi Bookshop and Bakery, Leo—Fred’s park ranger boyfriend—plans a surprise each night to extend the celebration.
During an evening picnic in the mountains, Fred and Leo glance up at the soft pink glow of the sky… just in time to witness a murder. As Fred and Watson slip into sleuth mode, along with their personal park ranger guide, the spiraling trails and twists and turns of the case prove daunting, as figuring out who they saw die is as complex as the motive.
To solve the mystery, they’ll have to leave the safety of the shops of Elkhorn Avenue and hike the peaks of the mountain…

Love this series. All the characters are so realistic and by reading these books you become immersed into their towns and lives. I definitely recommend these books to all cozy mystery lovers.
Book 18. Well it is Fred (Winifred )birthday 🎂again and Leo has been making surprises for her birthday. When they went to Chipmunk Mountain for a picnic lunch one of Fred's surprises. It had a team and chipmunk everywhere so you could enjoy and feed chipmunks. Elmer was the owner and Billy was his employee. Well when Leo and Fred were were about have the picnic food something caught in the perpetual view a flash of something. Come to find out it was a naked body either suicide or someone pushed him off the team that runs within Chipmunk Mountain.Detective Susan and rookie Cabot were at crime scene.. They did not know him. But they found some driver's licenses in a nearby car with different names on them but same person. They determined it was him. And their was a list of names with it. Fred mostly knew everyone on that list. It was a list from all the people trying to run for something in town. They found out that the man was weird looking PI that seemed a little to over top with his fake pipe. The suspects were of course Elmer and Billy. But everyone said they were too nice to kill anyone. Then Fred thought it might be Ethel the town mean old lady that Carla mother in law. But something did not add up. She would have killed all the people on her list herself or had someone she knew do it.for running against her. This series was ok not one of my favorites. But I always love little Watson the corgi Fred has and now Winston the weird looking that like thing a dog really only wearing diapers yes you saw right diapers. It is a new puppy for Anna and Carl but unfortunately Winston does not like Carl. But he is warming up to Fred in this one. I was fun to read this book though cause on my Birthday 🎂read decided to read it and did not know it was Fred's birthday 🎂in the book. Mildred Abbott also had a real corgi Alastair it is actually how Watson personalty was But sadly he passed in Book 6 ( the real corgi) she said. He was abused but he had a beautiful love with Mildred . She had a another dog Winifred (after Fred aka Winifred the human) Mildred said in the bio The corgi had a stubborn personality of Fred. I was thinking about getting a corgi. I had a yorkie Baby and she seemed like Watson. The way he give the side eye stink eye when he is peeved. Well if you Love any kinds of dogs you will love these series.
This series gets more charming with each new book. Chipmunk Mountain sounds like pure family fun where friendly chipmunks come close and climb on you for a peanut. The thought of it made me smile and giggle as I was reading. I really had no clue with the mystery this time around and the twists are abundant. Loved the quirky characters and the way the investigation moved along. I especially enjoyed Fred, Leo and Watson as a team. So many enjoyable scenes with the friends and town people we love like family. Every time Katie or Leo try to hold in their giggles at Fred’s expense I just want to burst out laughing myself.
This was a great cozy filled with plenty of suspense, twists and turns. I loved the storyline and the characters especially the antics of Watson, the adorable corgi. This book is recommended for those who love cozy mysteries.
Review by Gloria Lakritz 4 Stars Book: Chattering Chipmunks Series: (Cozy Corgi Mysteries Book 18) Author: Midred Abbott Publisher: Amazon Digital Release date: August 30, 2020 Pages: 293 Genre: Mystery Rated: Mature
We are immersed in a special birthday for our Fred. Leo has decided to celebrate her day and run it into a Birthday week,,,, We begin with a beautiful picnic, watching the sunset. What could be more romantic?
As the two get comfy on a blanket with their favorite Watson at their side, Fred and Leo stop short, watching the cable car in the distance and gaze at someone possibly leaping? Being pushed? definitly falling for sure to their death?
This book is a complete turn- around, with the murder taking place almost on page one. This was something different from our author. But from then on, Mildred Abbott had us working overtime trying to find was it a murder?, who was murdered?, find the body and only then figure out why? then who?
As always I adore this series, and must say I and our doggy assistant Watson did have trouble going up and down the mountain on that car…...I always hated them myself. New residents had center stage this time, as well as old friends being interviewed. Winifred had plenty to investigate and we followed her lead..
Chattering Chipmunks is book #18 in the Cozy Corgi Mystery series by Mildred Abbott. Mildred Abbot is one of my top favorite authors, not just of cozy mysteries, but of ALL my favorite authors. As always, my favorite character in this series is the main little corgi man himself, the adorable, grumpy Watson. Leo Lopez, Winifred (Fred) Page, and Detective Susan Green are all three a very close 2nd place winner in the character division. I absolutely love Susan Green, who tries to act like the stern, no-nonsense detective she is, but also has a soft and guilty-pleasures side to her: like watching Hallmark Channel moves (both romance and mystery) and reading J. D. Robb's Eve Dallas series. I even love her ever-growing admiration or love for her favorite "Jr. Detective Fleabag" Watson, a name she gives him in this episode.
Who in their right mind would murder a young man and then throw his naked body off of a Colorado tramcar? Read and find out. There are several suspects to choose from.
As always, this episode is the best one yet, and I won't have to wait long for the next episode, Vengeful Vellum, which is supposed to be available on my Kindle on October 29, 2020. Again, as always, I have given this book the 5-star rating that it deserves.

If you love cozy mysteries and you haven't read this series...you are really missing out! This series gets more charming with each new book. I really had no clue with the mystery this time around and the twists are abundant. Loved the quirky characters and the way the investigation moved along. This series is perfect for an afternoon getaway with a cup of tea, a savory treat and an open heart ready to fall in love with the characters !
After reading the first book in this series I was in love with all aspects of it, the characters, the town and areas around it, the mystery as it unfolded, the actual writing that speeds up...slows down...tightens then softens to keep you mesmerized to the last word! I was hooked and pleasantly so. The recipes are a great addition that even I have tried and succeeded to please family and friends with. You can not go wrong with this author and this series. You, like me, will be anxiously waiting for next book to be published so you can join your friends in Estes Park for their next adventure. Thank you Mildred Abbott for the many hours of pleasure you have given to me!
I have read the entire series, all 18 books, in about a month. That should give you an idea as to how much I have enjoyed these books. This particular book seemed to deviate from the other books in the series. I loved how Ms Abbott always included the other shop keepers and family members in each of the previous books. This book was basically about Fred, Watson and Leo. At times I felt like I was missing something and had to reread sections. On a positive note, I never would have expected the ending .I'm not going to give it away because that's not fair to the author or future reader, but there are actually 2 surprises at the end. One made me uncomfortable. I wonder if you'll agree?
I look forward to every new addition to the Cozy Corgi Bookshop and Bakery cozy mystery series, and this one did not disappoint. A young private investigator is killed on Chipmunk Mountain, and Fred, Leo and the trusty Watson are on the case. Fred and Leo continue their relationship as does her BFF Katie and Joe. And Watson remains his usual curmudgeonly but lovable self. But the reason the private investigator was killed was not what I expected (I don't want to give anything away here). If you are looking to spend some time with characters you would like to have as friends in real life, in a place you would love to visit, with a puzzle to figure out, I highly recommend this book and the entire series.
Fred is having her forty first birthday ( or forty second depending on who you ask) and part of the celebration is on Chipmunk Mountain. But how could Fred have a celebration without a murder? Luckily a new person has entered the picture or there wouldn't be a single soul left in Estes Park who wasn't murdered or in jail for murder. I loved this particular saga of the series from the cute chipmunks to the theme of doomsday prepping, which I always found intrigueing. And once again, Watson steals the show. Let me also put a plug in for Susan the detective. She has really grown on me. As usual this series always leaves me wanting more and somehow less (carbs, I mean).
I always end up reading each book in this series in one day. I am retired so have time to read all day. Then I am disappointed because I know I have to wait for what seems like forever for the next book! Mildred Abbot always delivers a great read. I love the characters and the setting of Estes Park. Watson is his grumpy and funny self. Love the relationship he and his mom share! I highly recommend this series for anyone who likes a strong woman main character with a lovable sidekick. I also recommend starting the series with book 1 and reading in order. So much more enjoyable to see the characters develop throughout the series. Now I am impatiently waiting for the next book.
I have this book 5 five stars because it was another mystery story featuring Watson the wonder dog. Fred and Leo go up Chipmunk Mountain in a cable car, when they see something unusual. Of course that meant that they were investigating it and they leapt into action. The characters were solid and believable, especially Watson. I love him because I can see facets of him that remind me of corgi's who have lit up my life. I liked the descriptions of the chipmunks who were pivotal to the story.
One of my favorite series, I love reading each new book! The plots are well thought out (I never have it figured out before the 'reveal'). The characters are diverse and believable. In this episode, Fred and Leo see someone thrown from a tram car to the side of the mountain. With multiple suspects with many reasons to kill and the nude body of a PI victim, the action is constant. While each story is a stand-alone book, you will see the characters more clearly if the series is read in order. I hope everyone enjoys reading this episode as much as I did!
I love these books. I lived in Loveland for 14 years. I visited Estes all the time. I love Estes and visit it every time I get visit my daughter, who still lives in Loveland. Estes is wonderful, and the only people likely to get murdered are the morons who try to touch the elk, who pretty much own Estes. The cops use Segways because there are so many elk. please visit, just don't touch the elk.
I enjoyed this book as well as all the others in this series. It was fun to see how Watson would deal with everything that was happening around him. I did not figure out who the murder was till the every end which was very nice. I would highly recommend this series to anyone who likes a good laugh and does not take everything to seriously as we all know that the police would not let job public help with any of their murder investigations.
Another great mystery! This particular mystery I didn't have a clue on who was guilty and in the end find out what all had been built in rooms in the mountain which included beds, food, weapons, etc! As always Fred, Leo and Watson figured out the mystery and even though Elmer who took care of the mountain with chipmunks ended up being put on probation and his best friend was guilty of murdering the PI that discovered what Elmer was doing! Another great book!❤️
I have read all the books in this series and just finished Chattering Chipmunks. Each book was excellent. I love all of Fred's relationships. It seems like all her friends are family. If you like good clean mysteries and love animals, especially dogs, you will enjoy this series as much as I have. I can hardly wait for the next book.
Every time I finish an installment of the Cozy Corgi series I absolutely cannot wait for the next one! These are fun reads and Chattering Chipmunks was no different. I just love the development of each of the characters in every book. Please keep 'em coming! I need them like Fred needs her dirty chai.
Love this adventure of Fred and her corgi, Watson. Enjoyed that the whole book included Fred and Watson’s favorite boyfriend, Leo. The twists and turns of the story are the basis of the Cozy Corgi series. Please read all of them as you won’t be disappointed.
I'm giving this book 3 stars because I felt it dragged on needlessly. Toward the end of the book it finally got my attention, but the middle just dragged. I'm going to give this author one more chance to see if I want to continue the series, otherwise I'm off to find another series.
I have read this entire series and am a huge fan of Fred, Watson and the whole gang. The stories are so well written you began to feel like they are friends! Looking forward to the new adventures!
I've been enjoying this series, Cozy Corgi Mysteries, the nineteenth installment is the one I just finished. The author has once again put the characters in a very entertaining well told tale.
This book in the series was different. Even though there was a murder, the reason behind it was unique and very interesting, Love all the characters and it was great to read about them again. They feel like friends.
Corgi’s are very protective of the people they love and just as scared of their shadows at times. I enjoy these books so much! Fred and Watson get in more trouble trying to solve crimes. Susan is becoming a more likable person. Ready for the next book. Jo
This one made me wish I had ridden the tram when I visited Estes Park. It's a beautiful place to visit. This book was good but definitely triggered some stress and a good bit of claustrophobic anxiety for me. Still enjoyed it though.
I was excited to read this book as soon as it was released. The story was interesting and the characters are enjoyable. I truly love the way they have evolved during this series.
Once again Mildred Abbott rises to the challenge and has written a great story. The characters ( in this case, even the villains) are engaging and there are plenty of humorous moments. All in all, a real treat with a sweet recipe at the end.
As chattering as the chipmunks are so are the human characters as much as the gossip chattering goes. Watson shows his brave characteristic more and you can't but love his attitude.
