Saving Askara #3

Spanning Worlds

Rate this book
He’s tall, quiet, and evades her at every turn…

Virologist Kemina Perez didn’t think to be at the center of a fierce alien’s fight to save his species. But now she is, and it’s put her on an interesting path—one filled by a dark Askari with beautiful green eyes and a reserve that makes her have to corner him just to get him to talk to her. There’s something special about Jadar, though; she can’t quite put her finger on it. When Mina does, turns out she’ll span worlds and more just to stay by his side.
***
Jadar’s seen enough of Aderus’s trials with Tori to know he’d rather keep his distance when it comes to their new allies. Except there’s one who refuses to leave him be…even if he can’t deny the appeal of her springing tresses and inquisitive mind. To wage a combined war, they’ll have to work together, and in doing so, help him kindle a part of himself he’s never really forgotten.

So we have our new couple - Dr. Mina Perez, and her counter part Askari- Jadar. While both races are setting up the new ships and preparing for war- there is a lot of chaos going on.

Also, the other chosen humans have not been able to harness the power of their new suits and its up to our leads to figure out why, and to maybe experiment on their own.

With tensions running high, and time running out Mina and Jadar are slowly making progress (both scientifically and romantically) but will their efforts be enough to save the Askari that were left behind in the previous war?

x--------------------------------------x

So I liked this couple- but I will say the slow burn was a little bit to long for me. I kept waiting for the romance part of the story (but that might be because I'm impatient at times and the plot wasn't keeping me 100% invested.)

description

However, I will say that I liked that Jadar was more touchy feely due to his status- and kind of wish the sex scenes reflected more of that intimacy aspect.

All in all I really liked the read and will be on the lookout for the next book!

3.5 Stars.
This is the third book in this series and Mina and Jadar’s story, We were initially introduced to them both previously and I was excited to learn more regarding there evolving relationship.
I really loved the first two books in this series especially the first one and though this didn’t quite match the enthusiasm I had there it still was a worthy contender and I enjoyed myself a great deal.

Jadar is less dominant and closed off than his fellow Askari more willing to embrace his feeling towards Mina.
It is something he has suppressed within himself for years his nature is less usual for his race.
Because of this apparent flaw he is seen as less amongst the females of his race this used to bother him until Mina and with her, he can finally show his true self.
He’s also the Askari equivalent of a healer and also somewhat of a scientist his more docile nature matching this role.
Mina is also a healer and scientist so for them it’s a meeting of minds as well as the physical.
I loved there easy connection and how comfortable they were together.

I did enjoy this it’s told from both POV’s and we also get some set-up for future stories in this world.
I would have preferred less war-talk and more Mina and Jadar though and that’s where this did lose points for me.
I definitely enjoyed the second half of this a lot more than the first mostly because this is where we got to concentrate on the emerging connection between Mina and Jadar.
I am certainly up for reading more set in this world and I’m excited to see where this series goes next.

If you're looking for something a bit different from the norm this is definitely the book for you.

Love this series but this story wasn't ready for publication in my opinion. It needs an editor and a rewrite. Some of writing seems awkward like it came out of Google translate or something.

Oh boy, I’ve waited so long for this third book in the Askari series, and it did not disappoint.
Well worth the wait!
Jadar and Mina are so perfect together!
Adventure, drama, revelations, continued Askari world building.
Excellent, just excellent. Highly recommended, but read books #1 and #2 to get the full immersion
into this world as characters from those books also appear in this book.
HEA and no cliff hanger but maybe a tease for book #4? Yeah!!!!

Mina and Jadar are the sweetest.

Real rating: 4.5⭐︎

This third installment of the Askara series is so, so good, and I can not wait to see where this story goes. Tori and Aderus' books set us up for the Askara/Earth alliance, and this story is the beginning of the outer plot's action. Things are moving! And we learn even more about the Askari and their interesting technology along the way. We're left with a couple possible couples we could follow in the next part of the series—both interesting.

If you like a lot of story with your alien-aliens romance, the Askara series does not disappoint. It's a nice balance of scifi/technology, politics, action, and romance.

4.0 - 4.5 ***

I enjoyed the first 2 books in the Saving Askara series and couldn't wait for this book. I wasn't disappointed and it was well worth the wait. I loved Mina and Jadar. It's nice to read a sci-fi romance that isn't all about insta-lust. I hope future books involve more trips to Askara. Can't wait for the next book!

Mina the mighty

Mina is a virologist. On this crazy ship dealing with humans and Askarians and sentient alien tech, things are beyond crazy. Humans have been given havats, are learning to pulse and, yay, she's discovered a new trick, tracking. Jadar at least is a lot calmer than the usual snarling and hissing Askarian, but knowing another being can find you anywhere is a little unnerving. But, they'll use any advantage they can, because everything is finally coming together. This rescue is actually looking like a possibility.

Spoilers ahead.
Another win for JM Link. I love this series. The cultures merging, behavior misinterpretations, the gentle side of these antisocial aliens. This is a more gentle story than Tori's and Aderus'. They laid the groundwork, we've immersed in the Askarian culture norms, and seen how they deal with touchy emotional humans. Jadar chosebhis career in part because of his ability to tolerate, even seek out, touch more. Although, it does leave him as a less desirable breeding prospect for his females. But it leaves him more open to Mina. Being only 1 book, instead of the 2 we got with the other couple, it seems to progress faster, and we don't get all the interplay as they learn each other, either. But it doesn't make it any less amazing. We get bonding moments, bits of humor, and the plot is still carrying the story forward- the rescue mission. And, we get gifted with 2 more possible matches. The question is, which one will we get to see first? Because both are going to be explosive.

It was great to get back to the Askari. They are still very alien but so captivating and strong. I can't help but want them to succeed in saving their world and people.
I loved Mina and Jadar. He's been shunned for being too sensitive but Mina accepts him and helps him gain confidence in himself.
The cast of secondary characters is expanding and so many more stories are left to tell...can't wait.

Jadar and Mina

Mina is a doctor for the International Space Agency, and is therefore on hand when Earth makes first contact with the race called the Askari.
The Askari have been fighting a brutal war, they asked Earth for resources, and were surprised when Earth offered help as well.
Now, they’re both readying for battle, as the humans and the Askari prepare the first move in a war against the Askari enemy.
Jadar is the Askari healer, a role not much appreciated by a culture that reveres strength.
He is fascinated by the humans, their cultural differences, their looks... and in Mina, he finds a female who can catch his attention.

This is the third book in the series, and it’s just as good as the other two.
This time, we follow another couple as they try to negotiate the issues when two vastly different cultures and beings, try to work together.
Jadar is not a warrior like the other Askari. He’s a healer, which means he is not as averse to touch as the majority of his race. His own intellectual curiosity allows him to feel more comfortable in the human world, and he has less issues working with the humans than many of the other Askari.

There are two things that I think make this series stand out amongst many.
One, the aliens are truly alien. Culturally, physically, mentally... they’re very different. There is no assumption that they can be alike in any way, and the characters struggle to come to terms with behaviour so alien to their natures.
Two, Earth is presented in a positive light! Now, don’t get me wrong... we know there are most likely ulterior motives, but they offered to help. Yes, the politicians are annoying. Some of the things they ask of other humans are presented in ways which make them seem less than innocent. But ultimately, they’re trying to do something good, and it is refreshing to see!

I look forward to reading more about this world, and the people in it!
In the meantime, if you want to read this, read the first two books first, because the overarching background story is a continuity, and the books work best when read in order!

Recommended for those who love sci-fi and sci-fi romance.

Heh. Jadar might do his best to avoid Mina (for REASONS!), but she is pretty dogged in seeking him out. While these two do take a while before they connect, their coming together did go a little smoother than Tori and Aderus's did. You know, because Tori is there to dispense the wisdom she's learned to Mina which helps A LOT when it comes to deciphering Askari social cues.

But before we get to the coming together, we get to see these two highly intelligent individuals working together to try to give the Askari and humans and edge in taking back Askara. They dance around one another while figuring things out and THINGS HAPPEN.

Part of the reason things happen is because (a) Tori and Aderus have helped pave the way for interspecies coupling and (b) Jadar isn't like most of the other Askari. Which works when it comes to Mina and he coming together, tbh.

A little danger, a little romance, some new abilities that help immensely when it comes time to fight the enemy, and the potential for a whole lot more of Askari/human couples in the future. Am I excited about this? Indeed I am.

The first two books in this series were wonderful. But that’s where it stops, and to be honest I’m angry to have paid for what can only be described as a rough draft with nothing really happening till the very end, and even that ended before it really started.

I wish I could say something positive about this book but…..uuggh!

Firstly it needs some serious serious editing. Page upon page of oddly and poorly structured sentences that seemed to be a combination of a thesaurus and google translate. Some sentences didn’t make sense at all; full stops in wrong places; sentences that start with ‘and, as, but’ that I had to reread thinking I’d missed some words; and confusing descriptions of body and hand placements during the (very awkward and perhaps even icky) sex scenes.

I loved Aderus and Tori; and I was looking forward to Jadar’s story but it turned out he had a bit of a soppy personality that just didn’t work for me. I felt no chemistry between him and Mina and found myself cringing at the clinical sex scenes.

So very disappointed at the Author’s rush to publish a book before it was even remotely ready; and am more than a little surprised by the 4 and 5 star reviews.

I feel as though I read a different book than all the other reviewers. I'm going to be honest, I did not like this one nearly as much as the first two. I was surprised when I downloaded it at how short it was, after impatiently waiting for it's arrival. It turns out I was right, and the relationship felt rushed. Mina jumped to the L word and risking her life waaay too quickly. It seemed as though we jumped ahead from the last book a bit and we missed some development between Mina and Jadar's relationship as well as Mina and Tori's friendship. It set up a lot of potential storylines with other characters that I'm excited to read, but I hope they won't be as rushed.

Wow! JM just rocked it again. She is the QUEEN of slow burn. You can feel the tension between her characters. I loved Mina and Jadar! Mina is impressive and powerful in her new role. And Jadar is a bit more easy to work with than any other Askari we’ve met. Put them together and they make a stunning team. I couldn’t put this book down! Now I want to do a reread of the first two books. Truly amazing! 5 stars

Jadar was more consistent than Mina, but I truly enjoyed their relationship and book. I miss Aderus and Tori, their POV, but we still got glimpses of them (the CHILD! I’m so happy and curious!). I like that Mina’s control and ability are different from others and more related to her own personality. Also, the fact the books aren’t 100% focused on romance (the technology, adaptations, war and problems related to them) make the story even better. I want to read about the palkriv next, but I feel that Braxas is more urgent... Anyway, I wish this series to have at least 10 books ;D

Askari

I absolutely loved the first 2 books and purchased them even with a kindle unlimited membership, I was so looking forward to the next in the series I even pre purchased it.

Unfortunately this book was very disappointing, the editing wasn't good which broke immersion and the charactes and plot were very shallow compared to the previous books. Obviously Link has so many different books in the works that she didn't give this one the attention it deserved to make it a credit to the beginning of the series.

Hopefully the author will concentrate on one book at a time in future and the rest of the the series will improve.

Ok so ....I’m finally reading this book hahaha damn I was sooooo anxious waiting to this one to come out I’m not kidding I’m obsessed with this series so I’m soooo happy when I saw that finally the third book was released hahaha seriously guys , to you to understand how much I like this series when I saw this one was out I reread the first two books to get in the vibe hahaha .

This one is about Mina and Jadar I won’t lie I’m more curious to know about the world building than anything else hahah the backstory is soooooo intriguing , I want to know how is Tori and Aderus , how is the Palkriv that is the light skinned one , how the things are evolving between Humans and Askari damn I want to know so many thing !! But I think I’ll really enjoy the story about Mina and Jadar too hahaha what can I do ? I love these Askari assholes .

Another thing I love is the two first female leads of this series are doctors hahaha damn this makes me feel included , I’ll be a doctor too when I finish college so for me this makes things even cool , and our male lead in this one Jadar is like a doctor too so this book will be a really intriguing ride .

I already like Mina she uses Spanish words a lot so this makes the reading fun to me , my first language isn’t Spanish but i know Spanish like I know English , and Spanish is far more like Portuguese so when she says something like “amigo” or “culo” makes a lot of sense to me hahaha I’m probably don’t explaining right but it’s more like a feeling so whatever.

Damn I didn’t know that Jadar wasn’t well viewed in his society too , he even said he wasn’t better than a Palkriv these damn Askari are ruthless, and he didn’t ever breed one female of his species? OMG our boy is a virgin !!! Some soldiers already has access to havats? This looks dangerous, but the havats aren’t de accepting the soldiers, I don’t know If this is good or bad but whatever hahaha .

“Her gut leaned heavily in one direction, but her head rebelled. It was a complete contradiction of her life’s work—knowingly infecting herself with an alien entity just to try to understand it. And as divided as she’d been about the spec ops team, this really gave her pause.”

Oh for gods sake just accept the f*cking Havat Mina , yeah I know she isn’t wrong about wanting to think about it ...like damn this is really a big step , is like you accepting to be a experiment , worst a alien experiment hahahaha .

. “Jadar only knew what he did because of his training as a youngling and what the aged esskrhen taught him. It was a stark reminder of their enemy’s ruthlessness: cut off their food supply, separate them from their knowledge. And then wait as they reverted to their most basic selves.”

I won’t lie this other alien specie is really smart, seriously if you want to conquer something what they did to the Askari are all the step to success . I’m really liking that Jadar is more ...open than Aderus , Jadar likes to touch others and likes to be touched too . Damn I think the next book will be about the female soldier ...looks interesting .

Finally!! We know the name of the light skinned one , Tannin !! Aaaaah I want NOW a book about him , and look like he already has a human in sight, the one they cal Smith I think she is the secretary.

“We were going to tell you,” Smith breathed. “But when Representative Tannin approached us in the beginning, we offered him asylum. That means we extended our resources and protection because he didn’t feel safe on your ship. This meeting was sanctioned by Earth governments and I’m going to have to ask that you please leave, Representative Jadar, if your presence is making him uncomfortable”

Ok I confess I’m sooooooo curious!! So is because of this he was in the Amendment since the beginning, even before any of the other Askari . The things are really going fast now , they are already planning the first attacks to take back Askara ... and I won’t lie this is scary like ....if the things attack Earth back ?

“She cupped his jaw and kissed him, along his fuller bottom lip. Jadar froze, a low hiss sticking in his throat.
When Mina pulled away, he looked lost...and hungry, staring at her mouth. Then he shocked her and flowed forward to kiss her back—more or less, as something hard chucked her chin. She felt firm lips push against her parted ones and the swipe of his bristled tongue, or it might have been teeth. Either way, it floored her. And she leaned in, following when he broke away.
“We breed well together.”

OMG !! He kissed her !! This is big guys seriously!! Aaaaaah Jadar is soooo sweet damn it . Their species are really different of us humans so , this things that are normal to us like touching and kissing are really a big deal to them , mainly because they DONT DO IT hahahaha literally... and Jadar says things like “ We breed well together “ F*CK this is sooooooo sexy hahaha but what I’m liking more is that after they f*cked or breed like ou boy likes to call it , he didn’t go away like Aderus normally do , no he stays with her and ...nudges her , sniffs her and this is sooooo sweet .

“It occurred to her that she, Kemina Perez, might be in danger of falling in love, with an alien, no less, because no other man would have held her attention long enough. Her imp joked, but really it was true.”

Damn girl ...I understand you ...seriously. OMG again .... Jadar actually slept with her !! So many news in this book I’m loving! And they will do the thing in this book , try to rescue more Askari whoa I’m really impressed. Will they rescue some Askari females ? I think a book with a Askari female and a human male , a badass human male could be pretty cool too .F*cking hell ...they are in Askara , like really in Askara , damn this looked so far away still in the second book when Aderus showed Askara to Tori , and now the things are happening!!

Jadar knows Mina’s family!! Omg !!! Hahahaha I just imagine if that was with my parents...damn hahahaha I absolutely loved this book and I can’t wait for the next one , I know will probably be about Liv and Braxas , they aren’t the couple I’m most curious but I’ll like very much their story too , I want to know more abou Roz and Xaphan hahaha looks explosive and I want moooore about Tannin !! Damn I just love this series ...

DNF @ 66%. I was so excited to return to this series, but sadly this one was just too boring. Barely anything happened and I wasn’t feeling much of a romance. There was a sort of fascination with each other, but not much romance.

I’ve got so many other books waiting to be read that I found myself unable to concentrate on this book cause I kept thinking about what else I could be reading instead of this.

Love it when author keeps alien and alien

I liked the first two books very much . the difficulties were true to form. Some books just have human and alien falling into it very easy .while I do enjoy those books its great to read one that details some difficulties one should see when an alien is introduced to a human . the third book showed us a different side to the alien. Softer and the reason for it. Being he was raised ( mostly assuming by snippets of thought and convo )by males that taught him and not a fierce female. As well as him being a healer made him less in their female eyes. He was different as the white skinned alien but in different ways. I adored the female character she knew what she wanted and was nerd enough to ask questions and take a leap at what she wanted. Knowing that the dynamics between female and male she still absorbed the differences between her alien and others ( he enjoyed touch from beginning , nor having to learn it didn't mean pain) ) though I acknowledge that the dynamics between the alien breeding is " their " way I hope and look forward to maybe the females learning that love is powerful.and as fulfilling as the males are learning . that everything dose not have to be a bloody battle ...... Who knows where this series will go but I am eagerly waiting the next instalment and hope is sooner than the last !????

I ended up liking book three a little more than book two, probably because the plot progressed more here. Some might say it moved too fast, and I have to agree. Besides the romance, I thought we'd spend more time with everyone preparing for war—maybe upgrading weapons or strategizing in detail—not just focusing on the suits. We don’t even get much interaction with the people wearing them; most of it is just background information.

The pacing is definitely off. The story starts somewhat relaxed, then suddenly shifts into a jarring sense of urgency. The editing was also a bit rough in places—for example, Jadar “purred” far too often, which became distracting. Other than that, the book was okay and had the potential to be better.

I also didn’t think I would enjoy Jadar and Mina’s relationship, since I wasn’t interested in them when they were first introduced, but I did. They’re likable and work well together, though their relationship doesn’t get as much build-up as Aderus and Tori’s. For that reason, some readers might find it a bit rushed, too.

If there’s a fourth book, there seem to be three potential couples it could focus on: Braxas and Liv, Roz and Xaphan, or Smith and Tannin. I was glad to see the albino Askari make an appearance here. He’s not nameless anymore—he’s Tannin.

Loved the characters but way too short!

I reluctance been enjoying this series. I love the interaction between the alien Askari and the humans on the space station Amendment. We are being introduced to more characters throughout the stories and I really enjoyed Jadar and Mina's story. My only grip is that the stories are too short and I would have like more depth. I wanted to see more of the meetings between the Earth government and the Askari. How this aggressive aliens handled our manipulative politicians. What made them decide so quickly to join a war a galaxy away! I wanted to learn more about how the spec ops team were recruited. Did the Askari have a say in who join the team? How did their training go and why did they go to Askara so quickly after just their suits to work. I wish I M Links had made more of building on the story rather than making it feel rushed. I really hope the next book is longer with more to offer. How will the fierce Askari females settle in and will it cause trouble. Saying that I still love the books and will continue to read. I want to see how the war will go and if Earth has made a fatal mistake. Only the author knows!

158 pages. $9
Really a Novella
Would not read again.
It felt like it should have been incorporated into CHASING EARTH.

I really liked Jadar and Mina in CHASING EARTH, but I didn't feel pulled into Spanning Worlds. I felt like the story was told to me, not experienced. Honestly, It was boring. It is such a shame. I waited on the book, and wanted the printed copy, since reading CHASING EARTH.

The editing was poor with mistakes appearing by page 6. The sentence structure was occasionally awkward , as on MADE NO SENSE.

Book One-SAVING ASKARA was fantastic and worth the time to read it and the money to buy it at 203 pages. I highly recommend it.

Book 2 -CHASING EARTH @172 GPS.
Still pretty good, but shorter by 31 pages.
Still recommended!

Book 3 - SPANNING WORLDS @ 158 pgs, now 45 pages shorter than the original....and it shows. I cannot recommend it either for the quality of the story or the paperback cost of $9.
I will not reread it.
I may not continue with the series.

Jadar and Mina deserved better.

It was just OK.
