Future Luxe: What's Ahead for the Business of Luxury

Rate this book
In Future What’s Ahead for the Business of Luxury, Erwan Rambourg identifies the major forces and emerging trends that are set to reshape luxury over the next decade. The expansion of Chinese consumption and the boost in women’s spending power around the world will fuel continued growth in the industry—but even more importantly, fundamental changes are on the horizon. The younger generation is entering the luxury market, bringing new values and demands that will redefine the very meaning of luxury. The sector should expand in the realms of travel, health, leisure, even cannabis. For brands to resonate with these younger consumers they will have to develop substance beyond a high-quality product or a desirable logo. Greenwashing won’t cut it—brands will need to take seriously issues like diversity, sustainability, and ethical production.

To ensure his portrait of the industry has the depth and nuance of real-world experience, Rambourg interviews several CEOs from the largest groups and brands, including Kering, Cartier, Puma, and Moncler, in addition to drawing on his own observations from over two decades in luxury. Future Luxe is engaging, wise, and deeply informed, a vital read for those new to the industry as well as veterans planning for continued success.

Very interesting perspective on the luxury industry from a banker's point of view. Informative and useful for those who know about luxury and those who are just learning. Recommended

Another great book by luxury industry expert Erwan Rambourg (see also "The Bling Dynasty"). A mix of helpful datapoints put together to validate various predictions, entertaining anecdotes and unpublished interviews with an impressive network of CEOs make Future Luxe a really good primer on the sector's future and a guide for managers and investors to anticipate key trends. Interestingly, the 2020 pandemic didn't make it any less relevant but rather was skillfully incorporated into the book's narrative.

This book is a must read for every “luxury professional”. I particularly like the bold predictions gathered around various sources (articles, discussions with luxury leaders..) that give substance to the author words and made us thinking about the future. The book comes very handy and timely while the industry is experiencing its deepest low with the Covid crisis since the GFC.
Good time to reflect and take the time to think about what the future of luxury will be based on what consumers (Gen Z) want: sustainability, buy less but better, carbon footprint…etc. and not having it dictated by bottom line considerations only. Experience is the ultimate luxury.

I have a feeling that the author has a positive bias towards the industry, but as he is an analyst covering the area I guess that’s understandable.

Having said that the book is well written and for those who work in the luxury industry, this is something really interesting and well worth to read.

Great snapshot of the current luxury industry and what's coming ahead.
I thought it would be a challenging read for someone unfamiliar to the luxury industry, but instead Rambourg was very clear on his writing and explanation is meant for everybody.

found the book to be quite mediocre..most chapters end with a interview to fill up and authors adds up everything and anything to come to conclusion that luxury gods will always be there
