Intuitively understand regression analysis by focusing on concepts and graphs rather than equations. Learn practical tips for modeling your data and interpreting the results. Feel confident that you're analyzing your data properly and able to trust your results. Know that you can detect and correct problems that arise. After an overview of how regression works and why to use it, the book covers a range of topics, including specifying and assessing models, practical applications, types of effects, statistical significance, predictions, and an array of problem-solving techniques. Contains practical and analytical guidance. Jim Frost has extensive experience using statistical analysis in academic research and consulting projects. He’s been performing statistical analysis on-the-job for over 20 years. For 10 of those years, he was a statistical software company helping others make the most out of their data. Jim loves sharing the joy of statistics. To help with this process, he has his own website and writes a regular column for the American Society of Quality's Statistics Digest .
Excellent overview of the many graces and pitfalls of regression analysis. It is packed with the kind of practical advice they never teach you about in academic literature.
The beauty of this book lies in its simplicity and clarity. Frost starts with the basics of simple linear regression and gradually moves into more multiple regression models, always emphasizing the why behind each concept. He’s less concerned with turning you into a statistician and more focused on helping you understand how to use regression analysis to draw meaningful conclusions from data.
The book is full of practical examples that are easy to relate to, covering real-world applications in fields like business, economics, and social sciences. Frost walks you through interpreting key outputs like coefficients, R-squared values, and p-values, breaking them down into terms that even beginners can grasp. If you’ve ever struggled to make sense of what these numbers actually mean in the context of your data, this guide will be a game-changer.
Beginner-Friendly Approach: Frost’s writing is clear, engaging, and always focused on building an intuitive understanding of the concepts. Focus on Interpretation: Instead of getting bogged down in formulas, the book emphasizes how to interpret regression results and what they mean for your data. Practical Applications: Real-world examples make it easier to see how regression analysis can be used to answer practical questions in various fields.
After 20+ years of applying regression techniques to real world data, I have never encountered a more straightforward and practical guide to regression analysis. The author clearly has significant experience in this area allowing him to distill straightforward and useful insights to guide the successful application of regression modeling. As an example, his repetition throughout the book of the ‘graph-the-data’ suggestion is insightful in that it emphasizes the connection between good regression models and human judgement… the process requires manual human intervention and cannot be fully automated. In fact, in chapter 8, the author gives an example of an automated process producing a statistically significant bogus model. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in practical applications of regression analysis techniques.
Really well written. The great organization of information makes it a great book to keep on your desk or in your office for specific regression related problems. Would recommend.
best linear regression book that I have ever read. extremely concise book alongside practical lab in plain language. really recommend this amazing book especially the narrative that really helps me clearly comprehend all chapters.
