A Zuni legend, a 500 year old grudge, fi ve violent deaths, a romantic and cultural reconnection, arson, a Canadian mining company, and identical twin brothers following different, confl icting paths to aid in the survival of their Northern New Mexico pueblo all form the tapestry of this book Cloud Swallower
The prologue starts the story out with a bang as it details a brutal murder of one twin brother in Arrojo County, New Mexico and sets the framework for this whodunnit. Jack White Deer, a good friend of the deceased twin, is helping out the attorney defending the other twin who has been arrested for murder, as they believe he is innocent, even though the brothers did not get along.
This not only deals with the process of uncovering the murderer, but touches on Natve American racism and conflicting environmental issues due to mining on their land that is seen as both helping and hindering the Pueblo people of the area.
It was a short interesting read about northern New Mexican Pueblo life not often thought about.
