Gap Year #1

NITRO: Lucas's Story

Rate this book
This was meant to be the best year of my life. All I needed to do was pour some drinks and show up to work on time. So why did she have to be my shift partner? The one I was forced to spend eight hours a day squeezing past and reaching over?

It really is amazing how one word can sum up a person so perfectly and leave little doubt as to what you’d be dealing with if you're unlucky enough to be thrust in their direction.

For me – that word is Nitroglycerin .

I'm volatile. I don't let people in.

Those who get too close will feel the wrath of my sharp tongue. Maybe my fists if I'm in just the right mood.

So why then can't I get Sigrid out of my head?

She was only meant to be a one night stand. A fling. Part of the game my boys and I were playing...

But her bite is worse than mine.

Feisty. Danish. Older...

Seriously, just kill me now and put me out of my misery. Because I can't stand to be away from her for another second.

Too bad she's 3000 miles away.

Lucas and his two best friends have arrived at Snow View Resort, and within 24-hours he's already landed on the wrong side of the first two females who have crossed his path. One, his sexy superior, and the other–an equally corrosive and filthy mouthed colleague that will force him further out of his comfort zone than he ever wanted to venture.

It might just be possible that Mac is more unstable than Lucas.
Flawed. Emotionally crippled. Cracked to the core from a past unknown. A rabid chihuahua with an acid tongue, she reads Lucas to filth on day dot. But isn't it always easier to recognize a damaged soul when one already lives inside you?

NITRO is a New Adult romance/unintentional love triangle that may catch you in the feels when you least expect it.
Due to its steamy content and self-harm warnings, it is recommended for readers 18+

Before the review I have to ask: what is the name of the airline? Bc this is the kind of flight that relieves you from stress and other things.😂😉
I’m still fanning myself, so 🔥🔥🔥.

The book is about 3 friends: Lucas, Jesse and Romeo who go on a trip from London to Canada to work for a year in a ski resort and during the flights they have sexual encounters with different women.

“A little friendly challenge. Hottest lay wins. That’s it. We all know what is and isn’t attractive. And none of us have taste up our asses. So, proof in some form to prove completion. And we have to let the others know who we're moving in on before going in for the kill.”

In the first they have sex with a group of Scandinavian girls, leaving one of the MCs, Lucas, captivated by Sigrid, so much that he is the only one who doesn’t repeat sexual games in the final flight.
Jesse have sex first with a gymnast and in the other one with the girl who has the ass of his dreams.
Romeo is the Sex God who has threesome twice, first with a couple of lesbians and them with a flight attendant and the pilot.

The end of the book coincides with the end of the journey.
I’m dying of curiosity to see the adventures that await these 3 friends during their gap year, but for sure they will the most interesting, sexy and that I will need a cold shower after.😂😂😂

Mile High Club? Check, check and more check! The Bet is the first story in a series of three best friends who take a gap year between undergraduate and graduate studies to sow their wild oats,so to speak. Third person POV isn’t my favorite but it was still a solid steamy tale!

4.5⭐️
After reading The Bet I was surprised by Lucas and his evolution in this book.
In The Bet he meets Sigrid, who is basically just like him but as a girl, his perfect match, but their ways separate although they maintain contact by phone.
At the resort he works at the bar along with Mac, his boss, a girl with whom he doesn’t start off on the right foot, but over time he starts to get along better and they end up having sex a couple times. But as soon he realizes that Mac begins to have feelings for him, he decides to cut the sex and tells her that he is in love with another girl. Their relationship goes through some ups and downs , especially when Sigrid appears in the resort months before the year is up.
Sigrid brings Lucas back the ability to love a woman after his ex Olivia broke his heart 5 years ago and Mac made him become a better person.
I ❤️ seeing the romantic and vulnerable part of Lucas although he still have some of his incendiary personality.
The relationship between the 3 friends ( Romeo, Jesse and Lucas) is without a doubt what I like the most about this book. Their friendship goes beyond just being pussy hunting buddies, it’s seen as they are in crucial moments always supporting each other.
Another part of highlight about Lucas is despite being a flirt and wanting to continue bedding women, he encourages Sigrid to do the same, to have all the sex she wants while they are separated and he is not jealous at all, something that is not usually seen many times with other male characters in other books, which it is truly refreshing.
I have taken 1/2⭐️ bc the book was short for me( I enjoyed it too much), I would have loved seeing Lucas meet Sigrid’s brothers😂😂. But the final scene in Heathrow is just😍😍😍.
❤️this series, a great discovery.
For what I read in this book Romeo appears to find true love with a virgin and Jesse’s book seems to be the most surprising and both of them super🔥🔥.
I would love to read them.

A story of three, young men ready to take advantage of the prime of their sexual life. Mile high trysts with some of the sexiest ladies to sail the skies. Will it all be too much for our virile lads or perhaps life has its own ways of creating turbulence at 35,000 ft. Read the Bet and find out for yourself.

After reading The Bet (Gap Year #1) I can honestly say I wasn’t expecting these turn of events and a change of heart in Lucas. In “Nitro:Lucas’s Story” you would expect to see this quote on quote guy who thinks beyond highly of himself and gets whatever he wants.

That is until he meets his match.... Mac. He’s used to being arrogant and women falling in love with that. But not this time. “There ain’t nothin special ‘bout you, goldilocks. You think muscles, a slick haircut, and a designer t-shirt will have panties falling. But anyone with two brain cells can see the insecurity lurking just under the surface. You play the alpha, but you ain’t nothin but a little bxxxh.” Not only did this take Lucas by surprise but his friends as well. They weren’t used to someone speaking to them in that manner. Lucas couldn’t even respond. He simply walked off. Fasting forward Mac and Lucas begin a sexual relationship but once Lucas notices Mac catching feelings he has to break things off with her because he’s in love with someone else.

He’s in love with Sigrid. Someone who we meet in the previous book and reappears once she comes to the resort Lucas is working at. Sigrid helped Lucas love. It helped us as readers be able to see another side of Lucas that I can honestly say I adored. “I SLEPT SO SOUNDLY tucked up in my bed with Sigrid in my arms. My mind and conscience free of guilt that I’d completely and utterly destroyed any hope Mac had of finding happiness in the future. If a fling out of the necessity for a decent distraction was all her time with this Jacob guy meant, then at least she was calling the shots. I just hope she didn’t hurt him too much.” This part touched me. Lucas was always so excited to simply having Sigrid in his arms. Waking up to her was something he didn’t take for granted. All while thinking of Mac. And hoping that even though what they had was fun, he grew fond of her and wanted nothing but the best for.

Overall I had to give this book a 5 🌟 rating because I couldn’t put it down. Seeing how much Lucas has grown as an individual is what kept me going!!!

I was generously given this book by the author to give an honest review.

At first, I thought “This jock is an idiot and I couldn’t care less about his endeavours” but as he continued on his journey and started to soften to the world around him, I began to really enjoy his personality that was shining through. It was written at times almost like a stream of consciousness from Luc but in other times like a journal entry. I enjoyed the use of technology and the yearning that was evident throughout.

“Mac had intrigued me, that much was for certain. But she was literally two different people–morphing from one to the other the further the day progressed.”

I’ve got to say that Mac was my favourite part of this story and if I could have asked the author for anything else it would have been more development of her. I loved her sharp tongue and the way that you could see her emotions were sitting just below the surface throughout every exchange.

When I got to the end of the story and read the section about Faith the author, it all fell in to place. The humour at times was bordering on offensive and knowing that she is Australian made me giggle as to why I got it!

In summary, the book is equal parts sexy and interesting. The character development could have been expanded in some cases and reigned in for others but I enjoyed the read nonetheless.

Scorcher

The second book of the “Gap Year” series, Nitroglycerin takes a big shift in pace from the previous book, The Bet. Where the first book introduced us to our three main characters (and their raunchy sky high adventures), the second book focuses almost solely on Lucas. We get more into his head and how he’s coming to terms with having met Sigrid. The additional focus allows for more character building and growth while still leaving glimpses into Jesse and Romeo’s life at the resort. Can Lucas handle both his desire for Sigrid, a girl he doesn’t know when he’ll see next, and the volatile chemistry he and his new supervisor have? For the “one handed” readers there are still plenty of hot and steamy scene for your enjoyment. Just know that there’s more downtime compared to the first book. Doesn’t mean this one can’t start a fire though. Definitely read near an extinguisher for safety’s sake. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

In Nitro - the follow-up to The Bet focuses on Lucas' story. Thrust into bartending five nights a week at the Lodges bar, his shift partner Mac is a nightmare with many layers - her introduction is heartbreaking but she and Lucas in their own ways help each other grow as individuals to become truly better people. Lucas' lady love Sigrid - who we meet in The Bet is someone he just can't get over or forget and they realize their brief meeting in an airport is something much more profound. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

The dynamics in this book are amazing. You know the author is good when you have one male lead and two female leads and you can see both relationships being perfect in completely different ways.

I lived for this book. Couldn’t put it down. Laughed, cried, and squealed like a damn fool. Love it, love it. Will definitely be reading it again.

This is hands down my favourite book.

Fay Baxter has an amazing way with words and when she writes you almost feel like you, yourself, have been inserted into the characters- almost like you have a unique view from inside all of their heads.

There are twists and turns, steamy scenes, and parts that make your gut wrench.

If you haven’t read this book, it is a MUST. Let Fay take you on a journey you’ll never forget. Then save the book so anytime you want to escape...you can.

I received a free ARC from Goodreads New Adult Book Club for the promise of an honest review.

It was better than what I thought it was going to be. After being selected to review Nitro, I went and read the first book of the series and felt like it was 3 fraternity guys sowing their oats as they traveled from England to Canada for a job. I thought this behavior would continue in Nitro but the book gave a different approach. Instead it depth to Lucas, Romeo, and Jesse's characters.

Lucas meets Sigrid in The Bet and continues to think and talk with her in Nitro. He realizes that there is more to their relationship then their one hookup on a plane. While Sigrid is traveling in the US, Lucas meets Mac. Mac is closed off and hostile towards everyone but she opens up to Lucas. Mac offers a no-strings attached affair to Lucas. Lucas helps Mac realize she is stronger than what she is. Mac suffered a tragic trauma and she never really dealt with what happened to her. Lucas stops the affair when he realizes she has developed feelings for him but he does does strive to be her friend.
