I really love this series but this story really grabbed me emotionally. I had to stop reading several times because of the description of human trafficking and awful murders. The suspense was at times overwhelming to me. The hero and heroine worked well together and seemed to be meant for each other. Great story.

Exciting!

I found this story exciting and intense. There is a lot of turbulent focus on the emotional road Caleb is on in regards to his ex-wife marrying his brother and he is expected to be at the wedding.

I enjoy the inclusion of Laysha’s dogs as part of her family, especially old Graynor, and his determination to hang on and protect his house. The dogs are Laysha’s emotional support when she needs it and her friends that don’t judge and love without exception. Caleb is sent to El Paso, Texas to look for the War Dog, Beowulf, who has disappeared from his adoptive family after just one day with them. Caleb has his work cut out for him finding this dog.

I enjoy the back and forth banter and heartfelt conversations between Caleb and Laysha. They can discuss anything and have been best friends since school. They have always supported each other and loved each other as friends without judgment. It comes as no surprise that Caleb jumps right in to help Laysha refinish her hardwood floors in the upper level of her house during his visit to town for his brother’s wedding.

There is an ugly turn of events when a body is found in a abandoned house, Caleb witnesses a murder, and he also finds out where Beowulf is. The War Dog is chained inside a pen on the compound of the mean, drug dealing, murderous man across the border. This man uses fear to control the people who work for him and no one is immune to his evil.

I was totally engaged in this story. There is a lot going on to keep you interested and invested in the progress of the characters. It has good humor, moves along at a good pace, and some sad moments that make you think. I got worried for little Fancy there for a while, but was soon relieved when she turned out okay. I was also proud yet sad for Graynor, as majestic as he is, still determined to guard his territory and the family he loves.

I loved this story. Any heartfelt story about animals and the people who love and nurture them is a story I want to read. The War Dog aspect is a unique element and one that I really find interesting. These dogs wholeheartedly served their country with everything they have and they deserve a decent retirement with a family that will love them for the rest of their lives. I look forward to more of these K-9 stories yet to come.

The next war dog to be located is Beowulf, he was adopted by a couple who resided near the Mexican border in El Paso, Texas. Caleb immediately volunteers to go find him, he has reason to go to El Paso. His brother is getting married, although Caleb has a problem with the bride, she's his ex-wife. He does have a place to stay, a large private place owned by his best friend Laysha.

Laysha shares some information with him that she figures he should know before he sees his brother, it seems that the baby Sarah lost while married to Caleb was actually his brother's. This is not something to easily let go although it's been years.

I loved the reunion between Caleb and Laysha's dogs, especially the oldest one Graynor. You can tell the rapport Caleb has with animals with every reaction. This makes me very hopeful for when he finds Beowulf.

Caleb does get a rental from town, even though Laysha has offered to drive him around. He needs to check out the property where the adopting couple lived. Apparently they've moved away and the property is vacant. What they find is a surprise and gruesome.

With the authorities in charge of the scene, Caleb and Laysha take at look at the rest of the property, assuring the detective they would let him know if they find anything.

Caleb is also helping Laysha with some of the renovations she's working on, including the refinishing the upstairs floors, quite the project for one person but goes so much faster and easier with two. They are both very aware that they are sleeping not far from each other, wondering why they never got together other than friends.

The wedding is looming but Caleb still needs to find Beowulf so he returns to the property to follow some vague hair clues. The trail leads him to a small town across the Mexican border. He visits a cantina and leaves the proprietor with a way to reach him if anyone can give him information about the dog. It's after this visit that things become interesting.

Jackson has been in contact with Laysha, but he really needs to be talking to his brother not her. Once Caleb arrives back there is much discussion and finally as she works on the floors Caleb gets lunch together.

So much going on and not a whole lot of leads but when a break is found the information pans out. The circumstances under which Beowulf was found had me crying. As did they way Caleb gets him out to safety.

Lots of twists and turns, suspense, family drama, romance, sizzle and lots of dogs to love!

I can't wait for the next book in this series!

Caleb has travelled back to his hometown for his brother's wedding to his own ex-wife and to look for missing K9 and retired war dog Beowulf at the same time. In order to do all of that, he is staying with his childhood best friend Laysha as they are certainly overdue for a reunion. He is not keen on actually going to the wedding considering the history of what happened and so concentrates on finding the dog and solving the mystery as to why it went missing to start with. For Laysha, having Caleb back in her house is like a dream come true although she is definitely aware that he still has issues with his ex-wife. They go together to look at the last known address of Beowulf and instead of any clues around the dog they find a dead body which starts a chain of events that is decidedly dark. It also appears that they were spotted at the house by the bad guys and they are definitely targeted now in a deadly game that Caleb is determined to win as he is not prepared to lose Layla, Beowulf or anyone else important in his life. Can he keep then all alive at the same time as working out what is going on?

I enjoyed this story which had several streams weaving in and out around each other - there was the story of Caleb, his ex-wife and his brother, the story of Caleb and Laysha past and present, and finally the story of Beowulf the K9, where he was and what had happened to him and why. Each stream was nicely woven around each other and generally, I really enjoyed reading the story. Well written and easy to understand this was a good story to read that mean I was hooked and invested in the relationship between Caleb and Laysha and was rooting for them to see what was in front of their faces and what was possible. Does contain a small amount of sexual content near the end of the story.

This is the 11th book in the wonderful "K9Files" series about the unexplained disappearance of a number of war dogs, who have given their all for their country and deserve a happy retirement.
As navy SEAL Caleb Dansworth was reaching the end of his recuperation period ,he sustained life changing injuries during a mission and wondering what he was going to do with his life, he was given the opportunity to search for a war dog that has disappeared from the radar near his childhood home of El Paso, Badger was worried, Beowulf had to be found.
Caleb was killing two birds with one stone, he had to go to El Paso for his brother Jackson's wedding........if indeed he decided to attend the wedding, Jackson was marrying Caleb's ex wife and Caleb was hurt and angry at the deception.
Caleb was to stay with his lifelong best friend Laysha Arkansas at her beautiful, if in need of renovation, five acre homestead. Caleb and Laysha had been friends since childhood but had never taken it any further, Laysha had to convince Caleb that he needed to attend the wedding so that he could move on with his life.
When Caleb and Laysha visited the deserted house where the dog had last been recorded they found a dead body, when shots were fired into Laysha's house it became obvious that the body and the shooting were connected to the missing dog and their lives were in danger.
This dramatic, suspense filled story unfolds to include drugs, human trafficking and gruesome murders.
Laysha and Caleb soon realise that they were meant to be together, the chemistry was obvious and their feelings turned to a deep love.
Whether or not you like dogs you can't help but be moved by this beautiful, emotional story.

The mission in this book is to find Beowolf, a retired military dog. He was sent to a couple in El Paso, Texas, but Beowolf and the couple who adopted him, are all missing. Since Caleb is going to El Paso to attend his brother’s wedding, he volunteers to search for Beowolf.

Unfortunately, this wedding is not a happy time for Caleb. His brother’s bride also happens to be Caleb’s ex-wife. Five years ago, she tricked him into marriage even though she loved his brother. Of course, Caleb is still angry and bitter at the action of the two of them. This causes major problems between all of them.

Caleb stays with Laysha because he refuses to be near the “happy couple.” He and Laysha have been best friends for years. She is the only reason he agrees to attend this wedding. Laysha has always had feelings for Caleb, but he never thought of her as anything but a friend. Now, finally, Caleb recognizes that his feelings are much stronger than just friendship.

In spite of that, this book concentrates on the actions of Cade and Laysha as they search for Beowolf. Because of their mission, the two of them are constantly find themselves in serious danger.

This book contains one shocking moment after another. The “bad guys” are frightful, but their leader is pure evil. This thriller is a page-turner with a lot of action, danger and diabolical cruelty,

A great action-packed page-turner!

Caleb takes on the next case of missing war dogs. He returns to his hometown in Texas for his brother's wedding but there are secrets and betrayal marring the occasion. Caleb stays with his best friend Laysha who has been harboring feelings for him for years. They get their chance for romance but first, they have to save Beauwulf and then themselves from a man who is pure evil.

This book was fast-paced and I loved that Laysha was redoing her whole house. She has some made renovation skills and she has a job on top of making over her house. She is a strong heroine with some sass. Caleb is her perfect match and the fact that they are friends and have known each other a long time is a good thing, they didn't rush into a relationship. Caleb really didn't quite see what was right in front of him and Laysha didn't tell him how she felt so mistakes were made and now they get another chance at love with the right person this time around. I could see the two of them starting their own dog rescue ranch. I am glad that it looks as though we aren't quite finished with Badger and his crew as there look to be more dogs to find after the next book. I love this series and wardogs just like veterans deserve to have a good life.

I found this a bit of a tear jerker, several times through the story I had watery eyes. At other times I was holding my breath. This story is a journey of emotions and suspense, it has action and excitement, not of the couple bonding kind either for the most part. The two main characters I loved and the dogs, the friendship was strong and the bond with the animals fabulous. The villain was a real nasty piece of work and it's a shame in some ways that those suffering at his hands couldn't take revenge, it would have been what he deserved but not especially pleasant for those witnessing or involved in that. It was also nice to get a bit of the original team at the start of this, I really enjoyed that. Knowing there are st least a few more of these stories to come is a big bonus. I would also be interested in a catch up of the other dogs and how they are fairing now in their new lives, but that isn't always possible and I understand that. But for now this one was definitely gripping and one I was fully invested in. Started 24/2/21 finished 25/2/21

When Caleb goes home to find a missing War dog, he calls upon one of his best friends Laysha who has been there for him for years. He’s also going home to contemplate going to his brother’s wedding , a hard decision since he is marrying his ex wife, a woman who played him. Laysha knows it’s hard for Caleb, his ex did a number on him but wants him to get past it so he can move forward and hopefully with her. Now that he’s back, the two are on a mission to find the K9 and they get entangled into a dangerous mess and if they make it out unscathed, hopefully the two of them will finally act on their feelings for each other.
Another great read with some steam, friends to lovers, some suspense and action and great characters. Once again I LOVE the no drama between the two and how easily they fit. These two may be my favorite couple from this series, as their relationship grew from friends to finally lovers, they knew each other well, and supported each other emotionally.

Yup I can't say no to this honorable hero who's trying to rescue a war dog. It's full of suspense spiced up with family affair and second chance romance. Definitely an easy-to-read page-turner book although sometimes I felt like the renovation is taking most of the story, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. Dale Mayer always write a wonderful heroes and I always love them all and Caleb it's not an exception, he's been through a lot with accident, injuries, rehab and his family betrayal, so now he's voluntarily trying to find and rescue a war dog, yup he's that wonderful man and the journey to rescue this dog "Beowulf" he finds love and finally made a peace with his past, yes Caleb totally deserves his happy ending, especially with his best friend Laysha, I love this couple, they're so in sync with each other.

A sweet suspense romance with loveable characters and awesome dogs that I think will make you want your own dog. A recommended book for everyone who loves a light suspense romance.

K9 Files Series Book Eleven
Caleb Dansworth has been working at Titanium Corp. Seeing how much his body could func-tion since his injuries while serving the country. When he's asked to find one of the missing War Dogs, he agrees. After all, he has a wedding to attend back in Texas...whether he wants to or not.
Laysha Arkansas is thrilled to have Caleb back and staying with her. They were so close grow-ing up, and it wasn't until he was out of her reach that she realized how much he meant to her. Maybe now that he's here, he can put the past behind him and they can have a future.
A very bad man has Beowolf. An evil man. Getting the dog back and not being caught will be risky. And in this small border town, there are eyes and ears everywhere that go right back to the man they all fear. Caleb definitely has his work cut out for him on this mission. I really en-joyed the story-line.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

This was a wonderful addition to the series. You don't have to read the prior stories, it can be read as a stand-alone.

Caleb comes to El Paso, Texas to look for a missing War Dog and to maybe attend his brother's wedding. The brother is marrying Caleb's ex-wife. That was a twist to the story. Caleb stays with his long-time friend Laysha. These two, while being attracted to each other in the past, never wanted to cross the line and possibly lose the friendship.

There are some twist and turns that go into the story while locating and getting the dog back that made for an interesting read. I liked the dual POV format. Also it was nice to see that the characters had a history together and it was insta-love that is common to some romance.

There is a sexy scene here so I would not recommend this to someone under the age of 18. If you enjoy a suspenseful romance, then you will want to try this series out.

Book 11 in the K-9 Files and still going strong. Caleb agrees to search for a missing dog while going home for his brother's wedding. It should be a joyous occasion however it's marred by the fact his brother is marrying his (Caleb's) ex-wife. More than a bit of family drama involved actually. The trip also lets him visit his old friend Laysha, fondly called Lazy by Caleb as in the past. Laysha isn't as fond of the nickname but it's there and cute. Some history between these two as well.
They are close to the El Paso border making the search for the Beowulf more difficult as he may have crossed the border. Other things are more difficult too as the dog may have been kidnapped. May get a tad gruesome here as there are dangerous people involved. There is also trust, loyalty, love and goodness added to the mix making for a good and exciting read. Can't wait for the next book in this series!

How did I never really see you before?

I am so glad Laysha pushes Caleb to speak with his brother because the frustration and resentment of what happened is eating him up, the only way he can move forward is to listen, understand and forgive. Caleb realises she is right, not only is she right but she is gorgeous, thoughtful, sassy, loving and fun...why has he never seen it before? He has always loved her but he only realises he is in love with her when it looks like he might lose her, he cannot be in two place at once.... but he shouldn't fear he taught her well and Laysha has too much to live for...no way is she finally getting the man of her dreams to be killed by a psychopath!
They find Beowulf but also find danger, corruption, betrayal, cartel control, bullets targeting them and sickening treatment of both people and dogs.
I really liked Caleb, Laysha, Beowulf and Graynor, they all stole my heart and they create a gorgeous but unique family!

As usual Dale Mayer entertained me with this superior romantic suspense!! I loved reading Caleb. This is a well-written suspense romance. It has fantastic characters that just grab ahold of you and don’t let go even when you have put the book down. I think this is my all time favourite in this series. I think it’s coz I’m a dog lover that this series calls to me. Plus I just connect with the characters every time I pick up a new book and then just can’t wait to read the supporting cast characters stories too. I totally just love this series. I totally have to read these books straight away when they come out and then they get added to my all time favourite suspense series list which I will read again and again. Just wish I could give this book more than 5 stars as this totally deserves so much more. Well done on another spectacular book. Bring on the next please, super excited to get my hands on Kurts book. Happy reading everyone!!

Caleb heads back to the El Paso area to find a war dog and attend his brother's wedding. Caleb has mixed feelings returning to town since his brother is marrying Caleb's ex-wife, but he looks forward to reuniting with his best friend Laysha. This war dog case is one of the harder one since the dog only spent one night with his new family before disappearing. The family has since moved back to the city and the house is for sale. When Caleb and Laysha go to the family's former home, they find a decomposing body. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is an excellent romantic suspense book. I enjoyed seeing the evolving relationship between Caleb and Laysha. I loved that Laysha nudged Caleb in dealing with his feelings toward his brother and his ex-wife before they evolved into romance. It was also interesting to read a book set on the Mexican border. While this book is part of a series, it definitely can be enjoyed as a standalone.

Finding Love with Your Best Friend

Caleb is on a mission to find Beowulf, a lost war dog missing from his adopted home in the wilds of Texas, outside El Paso and adjacent to the Mexican border. Caleb grew up in the area, along with his brother, ex-wife and his best friend Laysha. Caleb and Laysha have understood each other, supported each other and relied on each other most their lives. Now he's returned to hunt for the lost Beowulf and possibly reconnect with his brother, who is marrying Caleb's ex-wife, and visit Laysha. It's a sordid, bitter and unwelcome situation he's come home to, but Laysha is ready to help him face his past. She's also ready to help him find his future. Drug dealers, stalkers and murderers add to the mystery and intrigue of this book. Well worth reading with confident, smart and brave heroes.

I absolutely saw where Caleb was coming from in regards to his brother and the women he is marrying, I will be honest and say I do not understand how his brother could want to be with a women like that who used Caleb the way she did and all they went through. Thankfully he has Laysha one of his longest and best friends, you can see as soon as they are together how perfect they are for each other but the potential danger they are in trying to locate Beowulf does have you on edge and the more you learn about the man who has Beowulf the more you hope Caleb can take him out. This has the perfect mix of attraction, family drama, danger and bad guys, a dog the deserves more and two people who deserves their own happy ever after.

Well written, fast paced and characters you can love. Win-Win. For me there was not enough of Beowulff and his bonding with Caleb, but barring that I was thrilled I had an opportunity to read and review this arc. I like the way Dale Mayer handles the friendship of Caleb and Laysha and the progression to more. Believable and well paced. Laysha please come help redo my house! Talented, strong and compassionate is Laysha. As one who lived on the border, both sides this struck a lot of memories, good and bad. Grab and chair and read this fast pace story that will have your heart speeding up as they encounter issues and expanding with their love and compassion of all things. Thank you for the arc ! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

Another great read withing this series.

Wow book 11 already. Won't be long now until book 12 is out. Caleb was medically retired from his Navy Seals job. Working with badger has his perks and he is called upon to find Beowulf, a war dog adopted but now missing. Laysha has always loved Caleb and to see him after so many years, she gets him to come home to his brother's wedding, to his ex wife. Gosh there was so much baggage to unpack from that one sentence alone. Couple it with finding Beowulf and the finding of dead bodies. It might be to late for Caleb and Laysha, and I think this is the first time where the dog itself hasn't helped. Loved the book as always. The story was great and the characters had so much chemistry between them. Can't wait for book 12.

Caleb’s trip to El Paso is a mix of business, pleasure and family drama. While there he is investigating the disappearance of a missing dog, looking forward to spending time with his best friend Laysha and dreading having to attend the wedding of his brother and his ex-wife.

Laysha’s feelings for Caleb run much deeper than friends but not only is she is unsure if he has healed from the betrayal he was dealt but if they would ever consider more than a friendship between them. She agrees to help him with his investigation, but they soon realize that the missing dog is only part of the suspicious activities that are happening.

Intrigue, surprises and romance as Laysha helps Caleb overcome his past so that they can have a future together.

This is one of those stories that will have you on the edge of your seat. Caleb has returned to his home town to search for a missing War Dog and also for his brother's wedding. While there, he is staying with his long-time friend Laysha. Things take a drastic turn when they go to the house where the dog disappeared from and they discover a dead body. What follows are shootings, Laysha being followed, and a horrible/abusive guy who lives over the border in Mexico. And that doesn't include the family drama that Caleb has to deal with due to his brother marrying Caleb's ex-wife. Enjoyed this book with it's multiple story lines.

Caleb was on his way to his childhood home because his best friend Laysha asked him to please come back home for his brother's wedding. Before he left he was asked to try to hunt down another missing War Dog and he agreed.
Caleb not only had his mind on his recovery from severe war injuries and finding the missing dog, he also had to contend with is brother marrying his ex-wife. The wedding brings up long buried feelings between Laysha and Caleb and they both need to figure out how to go forward together, assuming they will live long enough to be together. As they start tracking the whereabouts of Beowulf the danger they uncover could be the end of them all!

This book is filled with conflict, tension, romance and drama all in the form of family. Caleb grew up in the area, along with his brother, ex-wife and his best friend Laysha. Caleb and Laysha have understood each other, supported each other and been there for each other for most of their lives. Now he's returned to hunt for the lost Beowulf and possibly reconnect with his brother, who is marrying Caleb's ex-wife, I don’t know that I could handle that type of betrayal from a family member and visit Laysha. I loved the friendship to romance that developed between Caleb and Laysha. Also loved the ending to the horribly evil causing so much damage.

WOW! Another FANTASTIC story by Dale! Caleb was tasked to find Beowulf and he dreaded having to attend his brother's wedding since he was marrying his ex-wife. Laysha invited him to come and she was hoping that he would stay since she was in love with him. It's unfortunate that there was a psychopath out there gunning for them plus she wanted help fixing her house up and Caleb was perfect in every way. Once Beowulf was found and the bad guys taken care of, these two worked on their happily ever after with their five dogs. FANTASTIC job Dale! I would recommend this book!

Caleb returns home to attend his brother’s wedding and confront the betrayal since his brother is marrying Caleb’s ex-wife. While he is there he is also looking for a missing War Dog. He stays with his long time friend, Laysha, who helps him with both his search for the missing War Dog and resolving his feelings over his brother. During this they realize that the feelings they have for each other go deeper than friendship.

Just when I think this series can't get any better, this story comes along. I love the way the author writes stories about these war dogs. Sure I love the characters, such as the wounded warriors, but the dogs are heroes as well and should be treated as such. What this dog went through was awful. Being in the part of Texas where Caleb went was real close the the Mexican border, at a compound where horrendous things were taking place. Excellent story with a HEA. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It offers up the perfect blend of suspense, tension, action, emotion, drama and romance. Caleb and Laysha were complex, easy to like characters and I loved that their feelings evolved from friendship to lovers. If you are like me and a huge fan of a book that can give you all the feels while also keeping you on the edge with all the thrills, then this book is an excellent choice. I thought is was amazing. This is my unprejudiced review that I am posting by my own choice.
