Jesus gave his disciples authority to preach the good news of the kingdom of God and to cast out demons, heal the sick, save the lost and set the captives free. Everywhere Jesus went, the kingdom came with power. There was no proclamation of the gospel without a demonstration of power. It was the authentic demonstration of Jesus’ power through his followers that ignited the greatest spiritual movements in the first century. Today, we are becoming more like the spiritual climate in the first century then like 1950 America. In a pluralistic, syncretistic society where all deities are considered equal, only the unequal display of Jesus’ power will convince people of the supremacy of Christ. The key to demonstrating the power of the King is Authority and authority is not just positional; it is developmental. Spiritual authority is rooted in identity, expanded in intimacy and activated by faith. This book takes an in depth look at how we can grow in identity, intimacy and faith so that we can develop our authority and release the kingdom.
I will definitely need to read this again, much like I did with Soul Care, in order to fully grasp all the concepts and figure out how to implement them. Many of the ideas in this book are enlarged from the lists in Soul Care which makes sense because our spiritual authority depends on a secure identity. This world needs strong Christians who are able to do what God has commissioned and empowered us to do: be His ambassadors and partner with Him to advance the Kingdom here on earth.
10/10 recommend this book to every believer who wants to experience victory, and what comes after that: walking in the authority Jesus gives us! We only have this one life to live! Do we want to sit around passively living out the Christian life, walking defeat and discouragement, overcome by our past and present circumstances? God has commissioned and empowered us to be his ambassador and bring his healing and freedom to others.
The church needs this message. Walking in our identity in Christ, through intimacy, activated by faith, we have spiritual authority. This book needs to be read, prayed through, meditated on, and lived out by the power of the Spirit.
This book is the only book I’ve ever read on spiritual authority, and I can say with certainty that my walk with Christ will never be the same! This book explores the “charismatic” parts of Christianity with such tact, scriptural instruction, and wisdom. It’s an easy read, while also being incredibly convicting, and although it is repetitive at times, I’d rather he repeat himself than not say enough! I thank God that I’ve read this book!
I absolutely loved this book and I recommend it to anyone who wants to walk in the authority we have in Christ. It helped me understand my true identity in Jesus and guided me to a greater intimacy with God, enabling me to activate my spiritual authority through faith. Dr. Rob's words helped me realized my inheritance in Christ and the power that comes with it. This book has definitely been a catalyst for my spiritual growth and has helped me unlock new levels of intimacy with God and to empowered to do the work of The Kingdom.
Spiritual Authority is rooted in identity, developed in intimacy and activated with faith. I may not have quoted that precisely correct! But this truth from the book is being cultivated in me, in a new way. We have the New Covenant promise and the power that comes with it. This book brings insight to the hard questions of ‘our part vs Gods part’ - the beautiful human condition and our amazing spiritual potential! I won’t spoil anymore! You won’t be dissatisfied in Dr Reimers writing style and insightful stories. Authentic and practical!
The goal of Rob's book, Spiritual Authority, is both to define and develop practical rhythms for that often intangible quality in some of God's people we call "authority." Have you experienced that disciple of Jesus whose life with God seems to have produced confidence, faith, and unshakable resolve in terms of their identity and trust in who God has revealed himself to be? The goal of this book is to reveal through scripture, anecdotal evidence, and daily practices how that sort of character is formed. Prepare for a good read!
This book is a masterpiece on the topic of spiritual authority and authentic spiritual leadership. There’s no hype here. The theology is rock solid and the message desperately needed. Thank you Dr. Reimer for sharing such a powerful message.
This book was awesome. It took a little bit to get into but by the time I hit chapter 3 I was hooked and blown away at almost every paragraph! Reimer is an excellent and spirit filled writer.
“spiritual authority is rooted in identity, expanded in intimacy, and activated by faith.” this is the whole premise of the book. a great book about how with gospel presentations in the Bible there is always miracles and power presented as well. we have a God who heals, gives us insight, and most of all is powerful. we are given access to this power through the Holy Spirit. i think the church needs to start pushing for this. we’ve already seen pastors like matt chandler start healing times during church services. very powerful book
I appreciated this book. I’d prefer to give 3.5 stars. There are a lot of great truths and reminders throughout. But the book was longer than it needed to be. I picked this book up because I am preparing a series on evangelism and living in the mission of Jesus today. He gives us authority and to much of the church is powerless. I am thankful for Dr. Reimer’s explanation that a spiritual authority is rooted in identity, expanded in intimacy, and activated by faith.
I appreciated the teaching and inspiration I drew from Spiritual Authority (and from Reimer’s earlier Soul Care). The insights were genuinely helpful, though I would have preferred fewer references to the “hundreds of thousands” his ministry has helped and less of “verbatim” conversations with his wife and with God. A bit more focus on the reader’s journey would have made a good book even stronger.
I come back and read this book every year. It is like an old friend who instructs, inspires, and encourages you to go deeper with Jesus. “Spiritual Authority” will help you to sit in intimacy with Jesus and walk out your relationship in a world where God’s power can be seen and experienced. A must read!
