She was innocent. Passionate. Fierce. After Luna Stone and I went from friends to lovers, my only purpose was showing her how worthy I was. But how could I convince her when I didn’t believe it myself? I craved her touch and her smiles but most of all, her heart. I vowed to protect her and show her father that I could be the man for his daughter. I pushed. She pulled. And when all was said and done, I’d have to go through an even higher power to prove that I deserved her… Myself. ~ Luna
He was quiet. Withdrawn. Intense. Zach Porter and I had been friends since we were kids, but it had never amounted to anything more than that. Until now. But as close as we were getting, he was still closed off. He protected his heart and put up walls, even though he had no reason to. He shoved. I grabbed hold and never let go. If I didn’t fight for what was ours, he’d succumb to his demons and believe their vicious words telling him that he’s not good enough. To give up. On us.
J.M. Walker, a Canadian author, is an Amazon bestseller who also hit USA Today with Wanted: An Outlaw Anthology. She loves all things books, pigs and lip gloss. She is happily married to the man who inspires all of her Heroes and continues to make her weak in the knees every single day.
"Above all, be the HEROINE of your own life..." ~ Nora Ephron
Omg Zach and Luna were fire. On the edge of my seat from the first chapter. I just had to know what was going to happen. Would they be together or wouldn't they? And in true Jm style your heart stopped at one point and you weren't sure if she would heal it. Amazing love story. Will they get their heads?! Read more to find out. I adored this story
Zach and Luna have been friends for years now and have long held decidedly more than friendly feelings for each other. Neither made a move until one day it just happened. Now Zach will have to step up, decide if he can overcome the demons of his torturous past and be the man Luna deserves. Yes, he has obstacles in Luna's father, Vincent (from Rust), but his biggest obstacles are his own mind, his own soul, which are damaged almost beyond belief. If he can overcome his past, though, he and Luna could have something truly beautiful like both their parents and all their aunts and uncles do.
My God...J.M. always brings pain and the emotion in her writing, and that's not more apparent than here in Control Us. Zach and Luna belong with each other, truly, but the pain they had to go through to stay together? Almost too much to bear. Thank God for the strength of character each displayed, and the strength of their love and their families' love. I loved the mentions of the King's Harlots and Vice One crews - it is good to know they're still around and happily together. Now I'm waiting very impatiently for With Us, Sunny, Meadow, and Roy's story!
Yes there is a lot going on in this story, but given the fact a couple of older series' and a brand spanking new series needed to be merged, that is understandable. Just have a pencil and paper ready to figure out this tree!
That being said, this was a great read. Luna and Zach definitely belong together. Not only for themselves but for the whole gang. Proof that love still exists whether it be for family or friendships or both. That everything needs to be fought for even if it is written in the stars.
I do wish a bit more background was given on Zach. We are told just enough to make his story doable, but not enough to make it believable. The fact a TON of romances have abuse intertwined in them thanks to a certain trilogy, one just kind of skips over the details. I want to know why Zach is the way he is. I want my heart ripped out and then stitched back together.
Regardless of the above, get ready for one heck of a rollercoaster ride that is just getting started!
Control Us (Next Generation #1) is a inescapable read suffused with an avalanche of angst, and love. Luna and Zach's friends to lovers romance is beautifully created with infinite heaps of passion. Absolutely love the fact we get to know the kids of some of my favourite character's in this awesome world. I so missed the parents so much and was so wired to revisit them. I only wish we could have learned more about Zach's history as it was not as detailed and just glossed over his past. A page turner novel that will leave you craving more. Looking forward to reading the next novel in this heart-stopping series.
A LITTLE HISTORY: Zach Porter Parents - Coby Porter & Brogan Tapp Their book - Rude (King's Harlots, #4) Coby and Brogan adopt Zach - you can see this in For You (A Novella) Luna Stone Parents - Vincent Stone & Creena Chan Their book - Rust (King's Harlots, #6) Luna is Vince's daughter from a previous relationship
Lawd have mercy. Y'all ain't ready for the next generation. Darn she out did herself this time. The laughs, the hot times and omg the tears. This is my new favorite book. I mean this is jm Walker, she delivers and I cant wait till everyone gets it.
I Gotta Give this book a 3-3.5/5 Star Rating, Listing as 3.
When I read the synopsis I was definitely expecting a much different story, which in some cases its NEVER a bad thing, I love being surprised. But. It’s very clear I am missing quite a bit of info, I definitely should’ve taken the ‘Next Generation Series’ a bit more seriously.
Because it’s obvious I should’ve read the series before this one, the books comes off like I should already know everyone and their backstory or at least their parents. Cause I’m not filled in with much backstory/history in this one, which left me confused in certain areas. I also really wanted to see what the stepmother did rather than being hinted, so my darkness level for this book is going to have to be low. Without knowing any in-depth detail of his past, I can’t fully understand Zach and some of his behavior. It seems like the characters always have someone around, which in some areas it feels more like either a filler or just not enough breathing space. I personally wanted more ‘reader & one character moments with (Luna or Zach)’.
HEA(?): Yes. Heat: 3-3.5/5 Romance: 3-3.5/5, this one is a bit wonky cause it seemed to fluctuate, it should be a 4/5, but I can’t list it as such. Drama: 5/5 Suspense: 3-3.5-4/5, This is another wonky one, cause while reading it was suspenseful in some areas, but I never get any true answers to them. Dark(?): Darkness IS Hinted but that’s it, so I can’t list it as dark. But 0-1/5.
Oh how I was looking forward to The Next Generation and seeing all of the characters from the King's Harlots series, I am certain you can read this series alone but to get the whole experience you WILL want to read the King's Harlots series to meet the characters that created these perfectly unperfect offspring.
Now.... onto Control Us!!!! O.M.G I was sucked into this story from the very first page and I couldn't put it down. The emotions that J.M Walker is able to rip out of me with her words are indescribable, I felt everything that these characters felt and it made me FEEL part of their story. Zach and Luna have known one another since they were children, growing up the best of friends, those lines start to cross when emotions go beyond friendship and friends turn into lovers, but with most epic love stories there are past demons and a very protective daddy that threaten the happiness Zach and Luna have been trying to build. Sigh... I can not say enough about this story, It was insta-love for me and I love seeing all the characters and hear their voices in my head once again... I can not wait to see what is in store for the rest of the Next Generation.
I recieved a copy of Control Us from the author. This is my honest review.
This is the first book in The Next Generation Series. If you haven't read their parents books, don't worry, you will still be able to understand what is going on in this book. Although, I do HIGHLY recommend going back and reading them later. They are great books! Every book I have read by this author has been fantastic!
Zach and Luna have been friends since forever, but both of them feel like they want to be more. However, there are things in the way of their union; a couple of the biggest obstacles include, Luna's dad and Zach's demons.
When these 2 connect, there is oh SO MUCH hotness. I felt like I needed a cold shower after some scenes. I was rooting for these two from the beginning. I wanted them to get the happily ever after I felt like they both deserved. The question is- were they able to get past everything that was standing in their way? I adored this book and everyone in it- I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
I was really into the story but because of Zach’s insecurities it felt like his moonbeam loved him a lot more than he loved her.
MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW BECAUSE I WAS ANNOYED
It really upset me that he broke up with her and instead of talking to his dad like he promised he drove to a girls house he knew Luna was jealous about and kissed other girl, intending to even have sex. He might have stopped but that doesn’t make it ok since the girl is the one who stopped him AND THEN got mad when he thought luna slept with someone else.
I’m glad there were some groveling for once but it didn’t matter since Luna forgave him already before ugh
All in all after so many books i dnf’d I was loving this story but I was disappointed how Zach always kept pushing Luna away even after everything they have been through, after taking her virginity and Luna never gave up on her no matter what. Zach was really messed up because of his past and he was sweet but I still felt like Luna deserved better than his hot and cold attitude
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
What do you do when your love runs deep but your demons run deeper? You fight to bury those demons and learn to forgive so you can claim your one. A tortured soul and the woman whose waited for him to be ready to accept the life she knows he deserves, the life they deserve together. Return home to the next generation of beloved former characters and see how their love multiplied!
Awesome book. I couldn't put it down, sex scenes were hot. I really liked and enjoyed Zach and Luna's story. I liked how you incorporated flash backs from Zach's childhood. It touches deep.

What a hell of a ride do we go on in this story. Zachary is a boy with a past. We know he has the same darkness in him which is why Coby and Brogan adopt him. They can see the same darkness in him that they have. They know what he will need to control his darkness. Luna is her dads everything. He loves her and his son, Vice Jr. He and Creena will do anything to make sure she is happy and healthy. Luna is the sweet, innocent one in the bunch of all the kids. She is the one who has loved Zachary since she first met him. She isn’t afraid of him and wants to be his everything. Zach has looked at Luna like a kid but one night he soon sees her as MORE and that scares the hell out of him. She is his best friend, his confident, his one true light in the darkness. She never judges him for his countless women or man whoring ways. When he finally opens his eyes and accepts what she is giving him, they combust into heat and chemistry. People these two…sweet baby Jesus…the chemistry. So many times, I was cheering and then a cockblock would happen and I felt jut as frustrated at they did. LOL I was like GET A DAMN ROOM ALREADY!! Luna and Zach have a few issues to deal with. His fear that he isn’t enough thanks to Luna’s dad and his own personal demons. Luna’s afraid her inexperience and her jealousy will be the cause of their breakup. The two fight for what they have and who they want to be with. This is a great story about overcoming your flaws and personal demons to see the person you really are and what everyone else sees you to be.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.

Oh goodness your going to fall in love with Zach and Luna. They are everything and will have you one the edge of your seat from the very beginning of the book. This is one of those love stories that pulls you in and you're really invested in it. I don't want to give away this story and if you have never read a J.M. Walker book you are missing out on some of the most amazing books I have ever read.
I was super excited to hear we were getting the next generation in the King’s Harlots world. I loved this series and this group of characters and could not wait to see their children all grown up. JM Walker did not disappoint with this first story. Control Us focuses on Zach and Luna who have been friends since they were kids. While Luna has been close to all the kids in the group Zach only ever really was close to Luna. Zach is still trying to overcome what happened to him before he was adopted and because of that he doesn’t feel like he is good enough for Luna no matter how much he wants her. Luna is trying to convince her VERY overprotective father that she is an adult and can make her own decisions when it comes to who she wants to be with. Can they survive obstacles that are thrown their way, or will they let them destroy what they are trying to build and their friendship? While this book focuses mostly on Zach & Luna we do get glimpse into the lives of the other kids and I cannot wait to read their stories.
As a newbie to J.M. Walker's Books I wasn't lost reading this book, but I will be reading all of the others books now color me intrigued and the way she writes will bring you to your knees in a good way. Luna and Zach have been friends growing up, but zach's past still haunts him and its friendship with Luna that keeps them quiet. When Friendship crosses the line between them can they survive obstacles that are thrown their way or will destroy them and their friendship? This book was absolutely fantastic and had me hooked from page one until the end and a few times wanting to thrown my kindle. J.M was absolutely brilliant writing this book and now I can't wait for book 2 in this new series and what a fantastic way to start it off. Bravo and Absolutely loved it.
I liked nothing about this book, to be honest. Zach is a prick and the way he talks about sex without protection irked me. Even the way he talks to Luna sometimes... Not a fan. I was close to DNF it at 42%, but then I changed my mind and continued. I didnt read anything that was redeeming to this book. Not a fan, sorry :(
I have to confess I read this twice before I reviewed, when I got the ARC I devoured it, I started and didn’t stop until I was finished, I was that excited to have it in my hot little hands....the second read was to pick up anything I missed while my eyes were glazed with lust or seeing red because I was so mad. I will say this book made me miss the parents so much I’m going to reread them. I loved Luna and Zach.....these two have amazing chemistry and I can not wait to read the rest of the next gen books.
Word of warning...once you start this book don’t plan on sleeping or doing anything for that matter. Zach and Luna’s story has everything. It’s a hell of a hot and intense read. A story that affects you down to the bone and leaves you needing more. I wanted to scream at times and throw my kindle, but all in all the story is fantastic and a must read. This series is going to be phenomenal and I cannot wait to see what happens next.
Control Us is book 1 in Next Generation Series. This is a very entertaining story and well written by the talented author J.M. Walker. The plot will draw you in from the first chapter, is a very emotional and powerful love story. The chemistry between Luna and Zach is blazing hot. The characters from the King's Harlots series are amazing, getting to know their kids was absolutely phenomenal. I can't wait to read the rest of the next generation books.
I LOVED Zach and Luna's story! Zach is adopted, and he had a really bad childhood before his adoption. Luna is one of his best friends, the only one he can talk to. As things start heating up between them, it seems like everyone is trying to stop them. Can they survive her daddy, their friends, and his past demons? Definite must read!!
This book, like all of JM' s, was definately worth the wait!! As usual, she brought out every emotion and made me fall in love with the characters. I have a special place in my heart for the King's Harlots and their sexy, devoted, alpha men so getting to read their children's stories makes my heart happy. Can't recommend this book enough and can't wait for the rest!!
Received an arc of this book for an honest review. Oh my god I loved it. Meeting all the kids and revisiting all the parents really is great! I can’t wait for book 2!
I had received this kindly as an arc an what can i say this book was beyond 5 stars another fantastic book in the series an fingers crossed for many more
When I saw this being the next generation from a series of hearten military men and their biker women, I was thinking that this would also be a form of the same concept with the bikers, but sad to say the only time there was a ‘biker’ brought in was Zack’s cousin Jaron Mercer for about a page worth. This is basically about the fight Zack has to face to prove to Luna and /or her father that he’s good enough for Luna. Or the fight Luna faces to get Zack to finally take her V-card to get the man she’s always loved from a far. We get that Zack was abused as a kid (see below) and the hell he’s been through but it gets repetitive in almost every chapter of Zack’s POV, or the fight Luna has to make sure Zack is there for her and for him to reassure Luna his deep feelings For her and bring up his past lovers. Is she in her 20s or is she still a teenager to keep bring but the other women a lot. Zack will kiss another women ( Clare) after his big fight with Luna about Stone..some will call it cheating but since his ‘body’ didn’t react to Clare even forcing the kissing on her before Clare pushes him away, then he’s remorseful...he’s not even drunk on alcohol but rage! But you be the judge on this... I like how the main characters have known each other for years. Plus some darkness.
Zack was adopted by Brogan and Coby when he was 10 (Brogan had a miscarriage and couldn’t carry to term so they stopped trying so they found Zack and adopted a broken child. Trigger warning for him will be how his stepmother (his real father died from cancer leaving Zack with an abuser) his name became ‘toy’ She’s starved him, he wasn’t allowed to be clean, she also probably raped him of his innocence and mentally. Took Coby and Brogan years to get Zack to trust them and opening up.
Luna is Stone’s daughter but her mother is not Creena, who actually became her stepmother when Luna was 6 months old. Her long time crush has been on Zack for as long as she could remember. Watching him become a revolving door with women in high school and years later. She believes the rumors of his sex life and knowing she would never have a shot at the broody guy. Until one day skin connected and his Moonbeam unknowingly got under his skins and stayed. But he’s got obstacles in his path, a blind date, a male friend and a overprotective big retired Navy SEaLs father who’s keeping a watchful eye on his daughter and keeping the bad new Zach away with warnings and threats.
DNF. Who wrote the book? An eighteen year old? Here I thought it would be a book with a story. Shame on me...
For two main characters that has been friends for years. (The main male character - believe it or not - he is in the works to take his dads business over - very mature but, BUT... He still stays in his parents house.... Where as the FMC already moved out of her parents house.
Anyhow, they've been friends for years. Him keeping on telling himself that he isn't good enough (he is right there) and that he is very scared of her father... But then just because she talks to some guys, he grabs her (by the way, it was also the same night he kissed her for the first time, and he told himself about not being good enough and being scared of her father) and took her around the corner and start fingering her. (Clapping hands - that is the way to show some respect to the girl you've been in love for years - slowly clapping hands). Disregard the fact that anyone from the party could walk around the corner of the house and catch them. (We all know it's usually the girl who get the bad name and the guy is like the macho guy, everyone wants to be him... This whole scene felt like he was doing that to punish her for talking to some guys at a house party not because he had feelings for her.
AND what de hec! I'm a guy, and I believe a woman knows more about her body than a guy... Telling her not to worry the pain will go quickly away while he fingered her... Why does a guy have to tell a woman what's going on in her own body? Does woman really think it's hot?
