Finnish hockey star Miikka Laasonen may seem to live a charmed life, but the reality is that he's lonely. His struggle with learning the English language makes it hard for him to fit in and to make matters worse, his Finnish girlfriend tires of their long-distance relationship and dumps him. Kindergarten teacher Charlotte “Charli” Bartosiewicz made a life-changing decision in her teens, and she’s battled guilt and regret ever since. She punishes herself by refusing to date and staying to herself because she doesn't feel worthy of love. When introduced by a mutual friend, Miikka recognizes another lonely soul in Charli, but there’s more to it than that, something he’s never felt before. He convinces her to take a chance on him by tutoring him in English, but he really wants her to take a chance on love. Miikka is determined to convince Charlie that she's worthy of him. But even if he does, will their love be strong enough to go the distance?
I really liked what we had seen of Miikka so far in this series. I felt bad for him that his English wasn't good and no one on the team seemed to want to help him. His doing a favor and helping Charli seemed like kismet, he helped her, she could help him. I really liked that Charli never made him feel stupid about not knowing English or as he was learning. Instead she made it fun, corrected him in a good way and answered odd questions that came up about things.
I felt for Charli when we learned about her past, hated what she went through and how it marred her life. I liked that by dating Miikka, she found close friends with the WAGS, something she needed. While things do move fast for them, it also seemed right.
I hated the drama at the end with Charli's family. She's a better person than me, because I wouldn't have gone back home or if I did, I would have left when I get the reception she did. She did get what she needed and more while she was home, so that is good. But I loved how this one ended, loved that Miikka and Charli started a new life together.
You may just fall too! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
OK... Charli is just super adorable and perfect for our guy! Miikka falls instantly in love with her. She is fun, smart and sexy. She welcomes their friendship and opens her heart to him so fast he really has no other choice. The two literary meet, become Inst-Friends then lovers over night. They can’t keep away from each other which is an entire level of adorable. It’s like they fall into the lives they are destined for.
Miikka is so strong in the times she needs him to be and for me that just made me swoon even more. I may have fallen for them both... and yes I cried a little too.
Chasing Charli is book #6 in the Alaska Blizzard series by Kat Mizera. This is Miikka and Charlotte(Charli)'s story. Miikka is a Finnish hockey player whose on the Alaska Blizzard hockey team. He really has such a difficult time speaking English. He ends up meeting Kindergarten teacher Charlotte(Charli) when she needed assistance changing her flat tire. The instant connection was immediate. Charli offers to give him English language lessons. From this develops a friendship and from that, you can tell the attraction is steamy between Charli and Miikka. Soon they are building on that attraction and the emotions are full of the feels and heart. Yet not all is well and good. Charli is dealing with alot of personal issues from her past that has a stranglehold on her, one that quite literally makes it hard for her to move on and have a good life. Miikka is such an amazing guy. He shows up, shows he's in for the long haul and his absolute sweetheart ways make him a great book boyfriend. Loved the ending. Can't wait for more books in the Alaska Blizzard series.
I am thoroughly ensconced in this series from Kat Mizera. I have been in love with these characters from Book One - Defending Dani. They hold a special meaning to me but Chasing Charli has won my heart! Miikka has found himself at a crossroads of sort. He was yearning to settle down, plant some roots, find that special someone who could share his life with him. He was so intimidated by his lack of English vocabulary that he let it hold him back. By chance he was introduced to the local kindergarten teacher, Charli (Charlotte) and he felt this pull to her. She too felt something for him but was not in the market for a relationship. Friendship blossomed and Charli offers to help Miikka with his English. From this friendship, grows something more but the past threatens this budding romance and they must decide if this is worth the pain and anguish associated with their secrets. Love is definitely in the air for these two but is it enough. Tears will be involved in reading this one.
What a sweet couple these two turn out to be. I was partial to Miika being european and all, but boy oh boy was he the sweetest, cutest and swoon worthy man. I loved Charile. Her life was not the eaisest and i loved how she manged to build her life despite what she's been through.
I've said it a few times in my reviews so far; if anyone can understand and relate to not knowing when its time to ask for help its me. But just like real life we all come to a point in our life when you understand that sometimes its better to face trouble with a partner. And Miika was the perfect partner for Charile.

Tragic. Empowering. Unpredictable. Mizera has done it all. With her flawed characters and emotional plots, she continues to capture the hearts of readers everywhere. Chasing Charli takes on the most fragile aspects of humanity and finds their greatest strengths. Charli and Miikka in their worst moments uplift the heart. A beautiful heartache makes for an inspiring romance.
This was a beautiful romance. I fell hard for Charli and Miikka. These two will firmly tug on your heartstrings. Both of these characters are easy to like, connect with and root for. Prepare yourself for lots of swoony moments and a boatload of feels as the story unfolds and the romance heats up! I am posting an independent, impartial review.
I enjoyed this book, because I liked the type of relationship Charlie and Miikka have. He was there for her emotional and physical, it was heartwarming and emotional. Charlie went through a lot and I liked how Miikka was there to hold her and support her. You never know how life’s roller coaster will turn out.
The perfect hockey romance. Great characters and the story flow was perfect. Very refreshing.
Not much hockey but the story line explained playoffs , hockey careers,/lifestyle, and players that come from all over the world should satisfy hockey enthusiast.
I really loved Miikka and Charli. Their selflessness and unconditional love made for a really beautiful story. Having Gage in this world, genius, he is so damn handy
Though there was a sense of familiarity about this story I still found myself falling for these characters while their words and deeds pulled at my heartstrings. From the first page to the last Ms. Mizera took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions as a woman with a past full of betrayals puts her heart on the line one last time while teaching a sweet and sexy Finnish hockey player English...which soon turns to the language of love instead.
Miikka Laasonen is a delicious hero, a talented hockey player with a kind heart. He's a true gentleman too who was recently dumped by his long distance girlfriend and is still feeling a bit lost because of it. He's the kind of player who's focused on the game, has partaken in puck bunnies from time to time in the past, but is happy to stay in the background for the most part while doing his job on the ice. He clearly struggles with English throughout the story and Ms. Mizera's depiction of his difficulties was realistic and utterly endearing, winning me over from the very start. His difficulties bind him to kindergarten teacher Charlotte “Charli” Bartosiewicz early on and from there they evolve from friends to lovers as Miikka's confidence grows. Behind his gentlemanly demeanor is a master at dirty talk, a man quite comfortable with sensuality and it made his scenes with Charli combustible. While scorching up the pages they also had to deal with her insecurities and fears, her deep-seated pain from feeling abandoned when she needed support most. Miikka's there for her through it all though, sexy and supportive, and quickly showed himself to be the quintessential book boyfriend in a relationship full of realistic highs and lows.
Charli Bartosiewicz desperately wants to move forward in life, but a painful past keeps holding her back from embracing happiness. She's clearly stuck in a rut when readers first meet her, keeping to herself while closing off chances to make friends (and more) out of fear of being left alone. Her intro to Miikka is unexpected but very fortuitous as he's just what she needs to finally move beyond her past. Their sweet and subtle friendship put a smile on my face from the very start, allowing them to grow closer in a connection that warmed my heart before the fireworks flew in a relationship that turned super steamy. Every step of the way saw Charli at war with herself, waffling between feeling empowered one moment and feeling unworthy the next. My heart ached for her during those times while I cheered each time she put herself out there. With each turn of the page Miikka was the perfect companion for her as they made each other better in a romance that shined with both tender and scorching moments.
Though this is the sixth installment in the Alaska Blizzard series it definitely stands strongly on its own with an uplifting romance full of heart and soul. With its near-perfect hero, and a realistic heroine dealing with her own emotional baggage, readers will be glued to their journey to HEA and rooting for them every step of the way. There's a beautiful balance of romance too, both as friends and as lovers, in this story set amidst the backdrop of hockey to keep fans of both themes happy. Along with this entertaining main couple was an equally strong cast of secondary characters whose connections were reminders of previous stories as well as promises of what's to come in future pairings. I enjoyed getting glimpses of Ryder and Donovan, new additions to the time, who appear to enjoy the ladies while dealing with their own uncertainties and I'm left counting down the days until their HEAs land at their feet.
I was thrilled to be back in Anchorage with Kat Mizera’s Alaska Blizzard hockey team!
When kindergarten teacher Charli finds herself with a flat tire and unable to change it herself, a friend sends help in the form of professional hockey player Miikka Laasonen. The two hit it off right away and when Miikka offers to help Charli pay for her tires in exchange for her tutoring him in conversational English, she can’t resist.
What follows is a friends to lovers emotionally charged romance.
Miikka is super sweet and extremely insightful, even though he can’t always express himself in English. His struggles with managing the language are adorable at times and I loved his interaction with Charli as she tutored him as well as when he visited both the children’s hospital and Charli’s classroom. I loved that he knew right away how special Charli was and that he vowed to himself to give her the time and space she needed, but to also keep her close and support her.
Charli did not have the easiest teen years and still struggles with the baggage she has from that time in her life. She’s never felt wanted or loved in the way that Miikka makes her feel, but she’s terrified to trust it or to realize that she is good enough for him and exactly what he needs and wants in a partner.
I fell in love with this easy relationship and adored that Miikka was totally in it to win it when times got tough. This story has a great mix of sweet and adorable, sexy as sin and w whirlwind of emotions happening throughout. It’s a fabulous addition to the series. 4.5 stars!
Mikka Laasonen is a Finnish hockey star who plays for the Alaska Blizzard. Mikka is a great guy who finds himself lonely because his longtime girlfriend broke up with him and his struggle expressing himself in English. Charlotte "Charli" Bartosiewicz is a kindergarten teacher who made a decision as a teen that has resulted in her continued regret and guilt as an adult. Charli doesn't date and feels unworthy of love. When Charli has a flat tire, a friend sends Mikka to change her tire. Sparks fly between Charli and Mikka at first sight. When Charli is told she will need new tires, Mikka offers to pay for the tires in exchange for Charli helping him with his English. I love how Charli and Mikka's relationship grew from friend to lovers. Their chemistry is explosive. Mikka is patient and supportive as Charli struggles with her issues of abandonment and trust. Mikka visiting cancer patients and Charli's students was so cute and endearing. I absolutely love Charli and Mikka! Loved seeing other Blizzard characters interacting with Charli and Mikka. I LOVE Kat Mizera! Chasing Charli is an amazing book with fantastic characters who will keep the reader glued to their kindle. I would highly recommend getting Chasing Charli and the other books in the Alaska Blizzard series. I received an ARC of this book, and I am leaving my honest review.
Kat Mizera scores with Chasing Charli (Alaska Blizzard #6). Winger Mikka Laasonen and Kindegarten teacher Charlotte (Charli) Bartosiewicz’s lives are changed after meeting each other when helping to fix a flat tire. The story takes place in Alaska, Finland, and Kansas. It is suitable for adult readers.
Kat Mizera does a great job with her character development. Charli had a difficult teenage life. She has made sacrifices. She is a shy but strong heroine. Mikka is a terrific guy. He is sweet and will go to great lengths for the people he loves. I love that Charli taught Mikka English. She is a good teacher.
I enjoyed the plot. This story covers topics of teenage pregnancy, language barriers, and trust issues. It uncovers truths and demonstrates what a detriment lack of communication can be.
CHASING CHARLI is a worthy addition to the Alaska Blizzard series. It had a nice mix of the old and new characters. I like that it is from the point of view of a hockey team that is struggling with issues. It seems like most hockey romances are about winning teams. Let’s face it, there are a lot more teams that do not win. I look forward to the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I've been a Kat MIzera fan for quite a while now and I can't tell you how excited I always get when she has a new story. And just when I think her series can't get any better, she goes and blows me away with stories like Chasing Charli.
You know how you sometimes get a little bogged down or you find a lull when an author is deep into a series. Or you find yourself wondering what more could an author find to write about, especially when it's the sixth book in a series. Well, let me just tell you, I could read Kat Mizera ALL THE TIME and never get bored. Not only do her characters just keep getting better, but they're so much like family. You literally yearn to read more and more about them. As is the case with Charli and Miikka. The closeness I felt with these two was more than I've felt for any others, and that's saying a lot because I literally love them all.
I adored Charli and the patience she had with Miikka. Guys don't get any better than him and I'm so happy the two of them connected. This story will warm your heart in more ways than one. Though it lacks some of the grit that's found in Kat's other stories, you just appreciate the goodness that Charli and Miikka have for each other.
Love at first flat tire.... well, maybe! A flat tire brings kindergarten teacher, Charlie, and professional hockey playe, Miika, together in this continuation of the Alaska Blizzards series.
The meet cute and initial premise of Chasing Charlie is unique and gave us a great opportunity to get to know these characters and a little bit of what makes them tick. I appreciated the somewhat slower pace of them getting to know each other before beginning a romance.
Both Charlie and Miika are likeable characters; they had a great give and take between them that made me root for them to find a happy ending. The conflict of the story was also unique and the resolution allowed for Charlie to put to rest several years of unresolved issues.
While strongly interconnected to the other Blizzard books, this is very much a stand alone romance that could easily be picked up and enjoyed without having read the other stories. If you intend to work backwards, there are spoilers here for several secondary characters. This would also be a great read for people who like “sports romance lite” as there is not a significant focus in actual game play.
Chasing Charli is another fantastic addition to the Alaska Blizzard series (and this series just keeps on getting better and better with every book)! I love Kat Mizera’s books and characters and this one does not disappoint. In this book, the story centers around Finnish hockey star Miikka Laasonen, who has it all – a great hockey career, financially secure, good friends but something is missing as he is coming out of long-term relationship that has him re-evaluating some things in his life, especially his struggle with learning English . That is when kindergarten teacher Charlotte “Charli” Bartosiewicz fatefully enters his life and everything changes and turns on its axis for both of them. Charli is also struggling with some profound decisions that she had to make as a teenager that continue to haunt her. The characters are sensational and the chemistry between Mikka and Charli is sweet and sincere to off-the-charts sexy good! All I can say is that Kat Mizera does it again – it is another witty, engaging, entertaining, sweet, and sexy read that should not be missed.
This story was a joy to read. The underlying theme of family was very strong. Miikka and Charlie were wonderful characters to read and their love was beautiful.
Charlie is a kindergarten teacher, not looking for any relationships. She still has major headaches from decisions made in the past. Miikka is a professional hockey player in the USA, however, he is having issues with his English. He hires Charlie to help him get better at learning his conversational English.
After spending time together, what starts out as an innocent English speaking learning session turns into getting to know to each other and finally dating.
Miikka wants a wife and family but with Charlie's past issues can he prove to her that he is not like the men she knew before.
I have never read a Kat Mizera before and this story grabbed me so much I read it in one go. I will now be looking for more books by her now.
Reasons I enjoyed this book: Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Happily Ever After, Inspirational, Page-turner, Romantic, Wonderful characters
An emotional journey of healing and love! With book six in her delicious Alaska Blizzard hockey series Kat Mizera brings us Miika's story in CHASING CHARLI and it's adorable, sweet and sexy all rolled into one! The characters drew me in quickly, had me smiling in no time and continued to pour on the feels thoughout. This book was fast paced, emotional and one of my favorites of the series!
Miikka Laasonen is sexy, brooding and downright adorable. I couldn't find a thing to dislike about him, and enjoyed getting to know all sides of him as he fell hard for Charli.
Charlotte Bartosiewicz is as sweet as can be, but she has a past that is dragging down her ability to trust and move forward in life. Watching her fall in love with Miikka and see the depth of trust it took for her to accept his goodness was pure magic.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who loves a good hockey romance that gives you an emotional read filled with a close knit group of teammates and their families. I always look forward to returning to Alaska!
Loved this story Miikka is so adorable every girl would love to have him as her boyfriend. One day Charli a teacher gets a flat tire on her way to an appointment and wouldn't you know it even her spare would flat. Miikka ends up getting sent to her rescue. Between their language barrier since Miikka is Finnish, they end up sorting her problem out. Miikka manages to get Charli to teach him English as he's finding it such a barrier holding him back from meeting his team commitments. Charli is scared of getting close to Miikka due to previous bad relationships shes had so she figures if she's alone she doesn't get hurt. Miikka is such the perfect gentleman and gentle with her and gives her the space she needs he doesn't want to push too much. Once you start this book you will find it hard to put down Kat encaptures your interest with everything going on between the two. Although this is Book six in the Alaska Blizzard series it can be read as a stand-alone. I received an arc for NN Book Blog.
Chasing Charli is an endearing, sweet love story that tugged at my heartstrings from page one and it is a fantastic addition to the Alaska Blizzard series! Miikka makes me think of a big teddy bear. He may be a big, tough hockey player but he is also loyal, kind and has a big heart. His biggest challenge is the language barrier he faces, but Charli changes all of that. She promises to give him English lessons that give them the opening to get to know each other. This friendship and attraction quickly turns into passion and steamy moments! Charli has her own demons from her past that keep getting in the way of her true happiness but it is the love and determination from Miikka that finally allows her to move on and enjoy the love that she has always wanted. This book if filled with wonderful characters and a beautiful storyline! Grab your copy and enjoy. You will not be disappointed!
I am thoroughly ensconced in this series from Kat Mizera. I have been in love with these characters from Book One - Defending Dani. CHASING CHARLI is a light and easy read and I found myself quickly turning the pages to find out what would happen next in this feel good story.
It centers on Miikka, a Finnish hockey player with the Alaska Blizzard hockey team. Miikka has a difficult time speaking English and asks Charli, a kindergarten teacher, to help him learn the language. Charli, which is short for Charlotte, agrees to teach Miikka and her life is never the same.
I found Charli to be shy and vulnerable and easy to like. I also liked Miikka; he is a great guy. He is gentle and patient with Charli and shows her how much he cares in many little ways. Charli has never met anyone like Miikka, she hasn’t had it easy and deserves a good guy like him. Even though Miikka has a difficult time speaking English, somehow he and Charli are able to communicate with each other and they have a lot of chemistry flowing between them. Miikka and Charlie are great together and meet at the perfect time in their lives.
I would have to say Chasing Charli is my favorite of the Alaska Blizzard series to date. You will just fall in love and swoon so hard for Miikka. He is adorable and an all around amazing guy. You really feel the sparks fly between Charli and Miikka from the very beginning. Charli is so sweet and patient with Miikka as she teaches him the English language. She really goes out of her way to make him comfortable with being able to speak publicly more. You feel the passion slowly build as they get to know each there before it starts to burn red hot. You will not be able to put this one down. The love between Charli and Miikka is hot, fast and so sweet. You feel for Charli once you see her struggle with her past. You will just love Miikka and the way he helps her work through it all. I swooned many times over in this one. I can't wait to watch more of the Blizzard men fall.
Charli is a kindergarten teacher in Anchorage, only 25 living on her own for years and trying to get her house renovated and her life normal. She has Niko (Sergei and Dani's son) in her classroom and he is just a joy.
Miika plays for the Blizzard, he was in a long term relationship but she didn't want to move to the US.. Now he is just having fun enjoying life
When Charli gets a flat tire at school, Dani calls for help and Miika arrives. They develop a friendship and have feelings neither thought would ever happen. As they embark on this journy, Miika finds out about Charli's past and her relationship with her family. Can he be the one that helps her move forward?
Extremely well written as always. Just parts of the book had me shaking my head and they just didn't work for me.
Finnish hockey player Miikka Laasonen is ready to date again after the breakup with his long-distance girlfriend he didn’t speak English because he was busy playing hockey. Teacher Charlotte “Charli” Bartosiewicz never planned to marry or have children after everything that had happened but meeting Miikka slowly changed her mind starting with trading English lessons for his help getting new tires leading to friendship and a lot of romance and healing.
Chasing Charli has a lot of heartache in it, but Kat Mizera pulls on the readers heartstrings giving Charli the healing that she needs leading to love with Miikka.
I would give it 4 ½ stars if I could!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the 6th book in this amazing series and is Miikka and Charli’s story. Miikka is a finish star hockey player, and Charli is a kindergarten teacher. Charli loves her job, but she is filled with regret and guilt over some past decisions she made. Miikka struggles with the English language as his career always took precedence, and from the moment a mutual friend introduces him and Charli, he recognizes a kindled spirit who is as lonely as he is, and she agrees to tutor him in English. Charli feels that she is unworthy of being loved, but can Miikka show her otherwise? This is a well written story which pulls at the heartstrings and is a tragic and heart-breaking story which is filled with emotions, and love which all leads to a steamy and poignant love story. I cannot wait to read more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend for all.
Getting to know Miikka and Charli was fun. I loved Miikka's accent and his desire to learn proper English. Charli was sweet as can be and stubborn as hell. I liked her but at the same time was bothered by the way she thought. Miikka was right in saying that she always thought in negative. But it was understandable with how the people who were supposed to love her kept running her down. Miikka was the sweetest and I loved his upbeat attitude. The only time he ever really seemed frustrated was when the team struggled. This was an enjoyable read however I struggled for a bit. I felt the love that Miikka had for Charli but had a hard time feeling the love that Charli had for Miikka until closer to the end. I have been enjoying this series and look forward to the next book. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*
I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was an interesting book in the series and introduces some new characters to the series while we still get to see characters from previous books. This story introduces Miikka, a Finnish hockey player who is on the young side and new character, Charli who is Nickos kindergarten teacher. (Dani's step son)
Dani and Charli are friendly so when she gets a flat tire. Dani sends her help in the form of Miikka. They both end up with crushes and this story tells their romance and friendship between two lonely and shy people who have been hurt in their pasts.
It was a lovely story and I highly enjoyed meeting Miikka and Charli. They are both young, sweet, kind and good people who form a relationship and are so their for each other. Thats what I really loved about them.
Kat Mizera’s characters never really are what they seem at first, and this book is no exception. While the WAGs think Miikka is a player, his behavior in this book is beyond reproach; he is absolutely dreamworthy. And Charli’s approach to tutoring him is also pretty inspirational; it’s easy to see why Miikka would fall for her as a person as well. There have to be some twists to the tale, and those are unexpected. I can see future books from at least one of the twists, and I can’t wait! But I digress. This may be my favorite of the Blizzards, and after I’d finished reading, my spirits were lifted, something really worthwhile right now. I also loved how Miikka calls her Char-lot, it’s so much more personal than any other pet name like sweetheart. I didn’t want this book to end.
I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
