Professional career guide from the Vault Career Library - from a look at the types of accounting, including tax and audit, to the types of accounting careers, including the Big Four accounting firms, and government work.
I actually read the first edition, because it's what was available from my library.
I thought this book was an excellent resource, but I can only give it 4 stares because there were a few things I thought it lacked.
First, there is little to no attention paid to anyone trying to enter accounting from another career or after receiving a bachelor's degree in another field, such as the liberal arts. There seems to be an assumption that the reader is either already enrolled in an undergraduate level accounting program, or is about to be.
Second, the writer's use accounting terms without explaining their meanings. It wasn't until I reached the end of this guide that I discovered the glossary in the appendix. I would have appreciated if there were at least references to this glossary throughout the text.
Other than that, as someone who is looking to join the accounting profession, I found this book to be very helpful.
