Devil at the Altar is Book Two in the De Maggio Mafia Duet. The story follows Carlo’s son, Angelo, as he prepares to take over as don of the Family. this can be read as a standalone!
Nicole Fox writes smart, sexy mafia romance novels. She is a crazy cat lady in her late 30s with a coffee addiction, an overactive imagination, and a husband who somehow puts up with her impulsive need to keep buying new plants for their house.
Second book to this duet series, just as good and enjoyable reading as the first, same characters but a little further on in their lives. Great end to a brilliant series.
Genre: Mafia Romance Book Length: Novel POV: Alternating Dual Setting: New York Hero: Angelo is the son of Don Carlo (from Devil in a Suit). He has jet black hair and deep blue eyes. Heroine: Dani is an EMT. She’s very outspoken and has dark brown hair and blue eyes. Heat Level: Medium Frequency of Sex: Medium Angst Level: Low Standalone or Series: Standalone Cliffhanger: No Epilogue: Yes Thoughts on Ending: Nice ending, felt satisfying. Would I Recommend? Maybe My Review: This is the second book in the De Maggio Mafia series and focuses on Carlo’s son, Angelo. I liked Angelo’s character, he was arrogant and sexy but also caring and passionate. I honestly did not like Dani very much. She was way too loud, sarcastic and brash for my tastes. The story flowed kind of slow and I felt myself wanting to skip parts to get to something better. I was also disappointed that Carlo and Hazel didn’t play a bigger part in this story, it felt like a missed opportunity. Don Carlo was described as old and weak and I didn’t like that portrayal of him since he was such a strong character in his book. Overall it was an OK read, just didn’t really hit the mark for me. I'm a huge fan of mafia romances, and the fake bride angle sold me on wanting to try this book. I really got into the story of Angelo and Dani, and tried to foreshadow how it would end for a lot of the characters as I was reading. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised that this book didn't follow any of my expectations, and it made it that much more enjoyable for me.
Please note that I did receive an ARC of this book, and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Lo de la mafia es muy exagerado. La autora pudo haber desarrollado más esa parte. Además, no me agradan los personajes, principalmente por sus actitudes y falta de personalidad.
Angelo is the son of Carlo DiMaggio, protagonist of the first duet book. But he is very different from his father, while Carlo only used violence when he had no choice, Angelo is too impulsive and often has to count to 3 to avoid ending up beating someone or killing them. While his father was involved in a war against the Irish, Angelo’s enemies are the Albanians and the rats in his own organization. And on top of that his father refuses to retire until Angelo is married.
“I said, When you have found a wife, so that you can make an heir, then I will step down. My hope is that this will teach you the meaning of responsibility.”
Dani is an EMT who takes care of her brother Wyatt when their parents die in a car accident. Dani leaves her dreams of becoming a doctor so that her brother can go to college, and although he is a boy with a gift for math, he also is a drug addict. Dani has already gotten more than a scare with him, and although he tells her that it is not a big deal, every time Dani relax he goes back to his old ways. Angelo and Dani meets at the hospital when Angelo visits his best friend´s mother and is lust at first sight. And although Dani thinks that he is arrogant and an asshole, in the end she ends up sleeping with him, and this is how her addiction to Angelo DiMaggio begins. When Dani’s brother gets into trouble with the university bc of the drugs, Dani asks Angelo for help. He offers to help her in exchange for her fake that she is his wife, everything will be a farce until Angelo is named Don and on top of that he will pay Dani a substantial amount of money. She accepts and they both play the game but they end up screwed. Super sexy and action packed. Nicole Fox does not disappoint.
ONE THRILLING TILT A WHIRL!!! Holy hell! Nicole blasts through like a thief in the night, blazing a trail, letting loose and flying high, wrapping this baby up sleek, shiny and tight. Coiled, knotted and tightly woven, exposing the explosive ups and agonizing downs, grounding in it's simplicity and awe inspiring in it's depth. One action packed, hard hitting, pulse racing, heart pounding, adrenaline pumping, page flipping bombshell, twirling hotter than a flaming inferno and more explosive than dynamite. Dynamics and countenance in layer upon layer that you peel back with each page your drawn into this web so deep until everything else ceases to exist. Lines blur and boundaries crossed, limitations are stretched and bent, booting this baby forward, kicking it into overdrive, slamming it into a tailspin with an intoxicating culmination. The raw magnetism, undeniable attraction and sizzling chemistry collides with such intensity, drawing you deeper until you feel the electrifying hum running rampant through your veins. The characters are complex and genuine with traits and qualities that add depth and realism, blend and flow transforming into relatable personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions that feel as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Remarkable job Nicole, thanks for sharing this lil' fella with us.
This is Book 2 in the Mafia Duet series and we get to read Angelo De Maggio's story where we he was just born in the 1st book. This was an interesting turn of events for me for the second book in a series where the story revolves around a character that was barely mentioned in the first book. Angelo has been groomed since his birth to become Don when his father steps down as head of the De Maggio Mafia but that power change does not appear to be happening any time soon. When his father gives him an ultimatum that to become the new Don he must take a wife, he quickly begins to devise a plan to find a fake wife so he can take the reigns of the De Maggio Mafia from his father. Dani is a hard working EMT who's main purpose in life has become trying to keep her drug addicted brother Wyatt from getting high. When she decides to have one "fun" night so she can forget about her brother and the tragedy she sees daily in her job. The chemistry between the two is off the charts and it seems that fate has plans to keep the two meeting up. I loved this book and if you like Mafia Romance, be sure to check out this twist on the usual story line.
I was given and ARC in exchange for an honest and totally voluntary review.
The book ‘Devil At the Alter’ by Nicole Fox, involves the firstborn son Angelo DeMaggio, who is in line for Don when his father retires and a hard-working, dedicated EMT named Dani who first encounters Angelo while they are both at the hospital; one for work, the other to visit the mother of his ‘bodyguard.’ He thinks he sees an easy 'conquest,' but Dani is 'no shrinking violet' and puts him in his place. Even though they are both attracted to each other, they desperately try and forget one another, but Fate intervenes. My face was literally sore when I finished the story, from smiling so much! It involves members of the mafia, so there is going to be aggression, fights, gun battles, power struggles and bloodshed; however, this violent contrast is needed to play up the relationship between Angelo and Dani. Their chemistry, their naughtiness, and continuous, sexy, flirtatious banter, from their first introduction to the last page of the epilogue, is off the charts and brings them to ‘life’; they became less two-sided, less ‘flat.’ I highly recommend this book, and I will be looking into other works by this author!
While this says it's book 2 of a duet, it is a standalone with a HEA. This book is about Angelo, the son of Carlo (book 1). This is a page turner with a story line that is gripping, intriguing and captivates you from the start. The characters are well written and compelling and exciting. A must read. There are betrayals close to home and intense chemistry between Dani and Angelo. What I appreciate most about these books is that even with the darkness and anger in them the De Maggio men, never hurt or mistreat the women.
Dani is a strong, independent, feisty and opinionated EMT that takes no nonsense from DON to be, Angelo. While she loves him, she is not blind to his faults and actually has plenty to say on it, especially when he crosses a line. Angelo is easily riled up and a bit immature and over eager (impulsive) at times as he is trying to prove to his father he is ready to lead the family. His father demands a wife so that he can calm down and mature and Angelo sees a way out and propositions Dani to pose as his fake wife.

This book is phenomenal! This book is Book Two of the DeMaggio Mafia Duet. This book tells the story of Angelo DeMaggio, son of Carlo DeMaggio the Don of the DeMaggio Family and an EMT named Dani. Carlo is ready for Angelo to take over as Don but he has conditions that need to be met first. Carlo tells Angelo he needs to get married. Carlo thinks that Angelo getting married will ground him with his recent instant impulses when it comes to handling business. Angelo doesn't do relationships so he decides he will have to find the perfect person to "fake" marry. Angelo and Dani come face to face at the hospital. Dani is an EMT and Angelo is visiting a friend's mother. They bump into each other in the hallway and no longer than they stand there, sparks fly. Angelo gives Dani his number. It doesn't take long for Dani to call and they meet for drinks and have sex. After that night, fate keeps bringing them together. Angelo tells Dani of his plan for her to be his fake wife and she would be compensated accordingly. Dani has no interest in his plan until she is backed in a corner and the only one that can help her is the devil himself. This book is a must read and I highly recommend!
First, I found it very odd to be reading about Angelo being ready to take over as don for the DeMaggio mafia since I just read about him being born a few days ago. It was a clever way to make this a duet. The odd part was the time period was essentially the same for rise of the each young DeMaggio male.
Once the story gets underway, that’s not as critical as the force of the personalities of Angelo and Dani. Angelo seems impulsive and easily angered. Dani seems worn out with the constant reminder of people overdosing due to her EMT job and her brother’s reckless behavior with drugs.
In any event, from the very start, these two have such combustible chemistry it burns up the pages whenever fate puts them together. Eventually Dani has to face what Angelo does for a living. He has to face what that means for Dani staying in his life. The last 10-15% of the book was fraught with danger and action. I couldn’t put the book down until I found out what would happen.

Angelo is all grown up and wants to bring more money and power to the Family, but at what cost? And when Carlo makes his demands, will Angelo be able to abide by his wishes and find a wife to continue to the legacy. But when he tries to make plans for expansion, things get very tricky and dangerous. Will he be able to find a wife who meets his needs? Or will Dani prove to be too challenging?
Dani is trying to survive after her parents died and her little brother is being a young man making his own choices. But Dani is an EMT and sees too much death to give up on Wyatt so easily. But when her two worlds collide, can she stay in both of them? Can she love Angelo knowing what she knows and still keep her brother safe? Or will the collision be too much for her love to survive?
This is a very exciting and telling story of opposites attract in the best possible way. This story is full of twists and turns, mystery, death, love, lust, romance and so much more. You will not be disappointed. I received an ARC of this book from the author.
This is the second book in the duet of the DeMaggio Mafia Family. In this book Angelo, the son of Hazel and Carlos, is all grown up and wants his shot at being Don. Carlos stipulates that he will retire and hand the crown to Angelo once he finds a wife and settles down. In his search for a wife, Angelo finds Dani at a hospital where she works as an EMT. Their attraction to one another is immediate but Dani does not trust Angelo with his fake marriage proposal. It is not until Angelo blackmails Dani into marriage that she agrees. Dani and Angelo make a great couple. Dani is headstrong and not afraid to speak up for herself. Angelo wants to make more of the family business but has a tendency to lose his temper quickly. Angelo and Dani play off each other well. This books has lots of intrigue, action, and excitement mixed in with a lot of chemistry and romance. In the middle of a crisis, the couple finds what true love is all about. I recommend this book I look forward to whatever new story Nicole may write next. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Devil at the Altar by Nicole Fox is book Two in the De Maggio Mafia Duet Series. This is the story of Angelo and Dani. If you have read the previous book 'Devil in a Suit' about Carlo & Hazel De Maggio story then you will know Angelo's parents. Angelo is their son who is wanting to take over the family 'business' but his father Carlo doesn't feel he is responsible enough because of his quick temper and that he is not settled down to one women. So Carlo makes that a part of him retiring and handing over the business. Dani is a EMT who wishes to become a Dr but for now is trying to take care of her brother Wyatt who keeping getting involved with drugs. Angelo and Dani happen to meet at the hospital and of course they words and their feelings burn hot. When Dani's brother gets in trouble Angelo is willing to help if she becomes his fake wife. Of course nothing can stay fake with the hotness of these two. Really enjoyed this series and this author's writing. I do plan on reading more of her books in the future.
Angelo is losing his patience. He wants to take over from his father as the Don of his family, but his dad will not step down. Then he is handed an ultimatum of sorts...if he were to get married in order for their to be an heir in the works, then his father would consider it. Of course this goes down like a lead balloon. Dani is an EMT fighting what feels like a never ending war against overdoses. Ever since finding her own brother and fortunately having the training to save him, she’s felt haunted. Circumstance finds her meeting Angelo in the hospital where he makes a lasting first impression. This was an excellent second book in this series. Angelo and Dani’s relationship has plenty of passion and chemistry. The Mafia troubles are interesting throughout and you know there’s going to be a head on collision between Dani and Angelo when she discovers some of his ‘shenanigans’ and the story doesn’t disappoint. Another fantastic read by Nicole.

This is the second part of The De Maggio’s mafia family duet by one of my favourite authors Nicole Fox, it concentrates on Angelo, Carlo and Hazels son from book one, tough, ruthless and gorgeous and needs to prove he is ready to take over as head of the family, and Dani a dedicated EMT worker struggling to keep her younger brother on the straight and narrow after they were orphaned. The plot and the characters had me hooked from the very beginning, I really loved Dani’s sassy smart mouth and wit, in addition to her and Angelo’s passionate relationship.l couldn’t get enough of it. This book had everything, it made you laugh, tugged at your heart strings and made you dizzy with the lies, deceit and back stabbing that just littered this book, make sure you aren’t the one to miss out on this fabulous rollercoaster of a ride??? I was given this as an ARC by the author in exchange for a voluntary honest review which I am happy to provide.
This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. This story is about a girl named Dani that is both mother and sister to her baby brother. Their parents were killed in a car accident. Her brother is weak to the power of drugs and Dani has sacrificed to try to help her brother graduate from college. He is so smart! She would do anything to help him get through school even marry a stranger.
Angelo is the son of the Italian Dom. He wants to take his place as the new Don but he has to make a sacrifice in order to take his dad’s spot. He has to get married and start a family. His dad said he will not step down until Angelo steps up and finds a wife. When Angelo has several chance meetings with the beautiful EMT Dani he decides she would be the perfect ‘fake’ wife.
There is a lot of heat and a lot of friction in this book and so good you will not want to put this book down. This book will have you wanting more.
Angelo DeMaggio is the son of Carlo and Hazel DeMaggio. He is the heir to the DeMaggio mafia Family when his father retires. At the beginning of the book, Angelo is immature, violent, and lets his emotions rule his actions. He is duped by the Albanians, the nemesis for the book. Dani is an EMT worker, although she dreams of being an ER doctor. Her parents died in a traffic accident, and she is responsible for her younger brother, Wyatt. Wyatt is brilliant but is also a drug user, ODing several times. Angelo meets Dani at the hospital where Wyatt is recovering from his latest OD. They are attracted to each other, met up later for drinks, and have sex. Eventually, Angelo convinces Dani to be his fake wife to please his parents. The story gets complicated, with Dani unraveling what Angelo's business is. There is an underlying anti drug message through the entire book.
Book 2 in the De Maggio Mafia Duet series, set 27 years after the first one. this book follows the story of Angelo and Dani. Angelo (Carlos's son) is set to take over the family business but first he needs a wife. Enter Dani whose looking after her younger brother after the death of their parents, but she feels its a losing battle until an unexpected offer comes in the form of a fake marriage to which both Dani and Angelo will benefit from. but they son both realize there is nothing fake about their feelings and simmering attraction to one another. well written with a great story filled with lust, sizzling scenes, dark desires suspense and twists. I would have loved an inbetween book to catch up on the family between these two book events.

If you want an action packed lust filled fake romance story that turns out to be the real deal this is for you. Nicole wrote a story with characters that will get your heart pumping and your panties melting. I was a bit confused at first but soon caught up with the story she was telling. It is filled with treachery and so much fuel to your heart and panties that you will be sorry to see this story end. Nicole wrote these characters so well that you can not help but be rooting for these characters. Now I will say this you need to read the first book if you do not want to get so confused with this book. I have to say this is probably the best fake wife story I have read this year. I look forward to more from Miss Fox.

Devil at the Altar 4 Stars! Well written easy to follow Second generation Mafia story. Angelo and Dani made for a great couple. I liked EMT Dani’s spunky personality that sparked off quick banter and dialogue with cocky, hotheaded Angelo. I got a bit frustrated with Angelo’s dad Carlo, who was featured in the previous book. I kept waiting for him to show some alpha hero smarts, but I thought he hindered the drama instead of helping it. The Albanian enemy was able to get away with way too much for way too long. That along with the unfortunate betrayal theme lessened the enjoyment factor a bit. Still appreciated the lack of cheating and the way Angelo was focused on Dani even though he was reluctant to admit his love for her. An entertaining Mafia read from start to finish.

This is the 2nd part of this fascinating duet and is Angelo and Dani’s story. Angelo is Carlo and Hazel’s son. Angelo had worked his way up in the organisation and is convinced that he is ready to take over when his dad retires, but Carlo is not so sure of that as he wants his son to settle down and put an end to his playboy ways. Dani is an EMT who is supporting her brother who is an addict, and Angelo convinces her to agree that they mutually help each other if they enter a fake marriage to convince his parents that he is ready. The chemistry between these two is explosive. This is a beautifully written tale which is fast paced, action packed, and filled with intrigue, twists, danger, suspense, drama, and is a steamy and all-consuming story. This talented author just gets better and better, and I highly recommend her work for all.
The chemistry between them was intense and electric! by sewsummore
As the only son of a Mafia Don, Angelo could not wait for his father to retire so he could have total control of their organization. When his father told him he would retire as soon as Angelo married, he decided it was time to find a woman to fake-marry him. Dani was not his first choice, but in the end, she was the only one he would have. The chemistry between them was intense and electric, and despite his desire not to fall for Dani and the drama was his life, Angelo knew he loved her. I loved Dani, and she was a take-charge woman who loved Angelo despite the mafia man he was. Their fake marriage did not last very long before they made it official, and their future together was assured.

This book was about the son from book 1 and how the Don wants to retire but feels like his son is too wild and needs to settle down, so he looks for a fake bride. I was confused at first because Angelo name was throwing me off but this story was action packed and full of lust and love and deceit and there is another spoiler in the story, someone important may or may not die. You have to read the first book to understand the 2nd book and trust me it is so worth it, I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review and again I would buy her books without the ARC, Nicole just flat out crushes the mafia world.

This book is Book Two of the DeMaggio Mafia Duet. It is packed with action, secrets, danger, a little bit of betrayal, steam, chemistry and more! It will keep you turning pages to see what happens next. It will take you by surprise in places. This book tells the story of Angelo DeMaggio, son of Carlo DeMaggio the Don of the DeMaggio Family and an fiesty, stubborn, EMT named Dani. They have a strong attraction but it isn't that simple. What will happen? Do they give in or not? Is it possible to find love in someone who is totally opposite from you? What would you do fir live? Family? You will have to read the book to find out. No spoilers! Highly recommend! I am voluntarily leaving my review after reading an advance reader copy from the author.
I give this story Four and One Half Stars I really like this story. I love to read stories about Mafia families. This story about Dani who is a EMT and her brother Wyatt who have lost their parents to a car accident and then their is Angelo De Maggio son of Carlo De Maggio Carlo is the Don and Angelo is his son. Carlo let his son no that he cannot let him be Don until he finds his self a wife. He and Dani meet in one of the hospital hallways when he is there to take his friend who had been shot. They eventually develop a relationship and this story is how an ordinary girl/women meets and falls in love with a mafia boss and how they change each other's life. This story was pretty good. In fact it was better than I thought it was going to be.
Angelo finds out from his father, Carlo the don of the De Maggio mafia, that he must get married and have an heir to take over as don of the family. With everything else going on in his life the last thing Angelo wants is a wife right now, but the feisty EMT he met the other day would be a good candidate for a fake wife. Can he convince her to help him out? Dani is just trying to keep her younger brother in college and away from drugs, some days it seems like a losing battle. Maybe Angelo can help her out with her problem, while she pretends to be his wife. This is a good story with lots of action and some very steamy scenes. Definitely recommend this book as a must read!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I read the first book in this series and it wasn’t my fav but I really enjoyed this one. The book is about Angelo and Dani. Angelo is the Dom’s first born and Dani is EMT. They first meet at the hospital; when Angelo was there to visit the mother of his ‘bodyguard. He thinks he can twist her around his little finger but soon finds out that is a big mistake. Dani has fire. Even though they are both attracted to each other, they desperately try and forget one another, until fate gets involved. I hope the rest of the series is similar to this.

What a devil he is.... I love it The heat between Angelo and Dani Is down right scorching.... Angelo wants to take over as Don. But his father has one condition. He needs a wife. Dani is a EMT struggling to take care of her drug dependent brother Wyatt. She decides to let go just one night. Angelo is hot, she’s gorgeous what could go wrong? Neither Angelo nor Dani expected to feel the things they feel for each other after one quick encounter. But it’s becoming harder and harder to deny their feelings. And when Dani finds out the truth about Angelos business will she push him away forever? Or will the danger following Angelo around destroy them both. A great mafia story! Angelo is getting ready to take over as the Don but his father puts a stipulation in place. Angelo must find a wife so an heir can carry on the Family. Dani is an EMT with a fiery personality. That fire explodes between them quite a few times which makes Angelo propose a proposition which will benefit them both. Angelo has his plate full with the Albanians, missing and tampered shipments, and a rat. A page tuner of story!
