This is a beautiful book.

I was so overjoyed to read from a mom who co-sleep, who is in support of homeschooling, breastfeeding, who is critical about research and findings targeted at mummies who are struggling, vaccinating, parenting gently, firmly and differently.

I love all of the essays, at the moment I am stalking all she has written so that I can read them and swallow them gently. She is a good writer.

The kind that makes you take up your pen and start writing your own thoughts about family and motherhood.

I wrote this in my journal after reading her essay titled ‘Softer shades of gray’:

‘Motherhood is heavy, it drains, it takes and takes. But like everything else, as Muslims we know and we are reassured that if a woman bears any pain/discomfort from giving birth, raising children, Allah will reward her patience. And look at how merciful I am towards my children that is nothing compared to how Allah is to his slaves.

This reminder is something I should remember often just to remind myself that he is there, always there. So in days of ease, I should perform all acts of motherhood dutifully, with joy, and in days of difficulty the knowledge that things will be come easier should comfort me. ‘

And that’s what good books and reading essays does to you.

Thank you Peggy O Mara for this book, I am a huge fan from Nigeria and like you wrote at the beginning of this book to your children, here I am saying:

‘Thank you for reminding me about the joys, and the beauty of motherhood’

As a fan of Mothering magazine for decades, this volume is a beautiful read for me now in my grandmothering years.

hands down best "parenting" book I've ever read. I will be going back to this. It is validating the inherent intuition of the mother, which is so very real and important when raising your kids. Being intuitive while being informed of ALL the options when making decisions is probably the best "advice" anyone could ever give

All I can say is that I love and adore Peggy, even though I am sure we are very different people. I will miss her editorials in Mothering Magazine which makes me extra thankful I bought this! She is a rare gem!
