Power of Fae #2

The Lost Magic

Rate this book
Jette O’Hare doesn’t belong with a Fae prince. And she sure as heck doesn’t know how to win a magical war. That’s me, I’m Jette. One of the alleged saviors expected to help save the multiverse. But the people who believe that bull are in for a world of disappointment.

Every bizarre, parallel world I visit is filled to the brim with trouble, and I somehow always manage to end up knee-deep in all of it. More problems are the last thing I need in my life right now.

Learning I’m an elemental and expected to help save the multiverse? That’s some pretty heavy stuff, and I don’t know if I can take much more.

If it wasn’t for Prince Starke’s guidance and friendship, I would have admitted defeat and run for the hills long ago. He taught me to accept and control my magic. He kept me grounded in this world of chaos. But even he has his secrets. Secrets that just may cost us the war with the Fae queen.

If I can’t figure out who to trust, and soon, the question won’t be can we win the war, but will we even survive it.

So Book 1 left us on a cliffhanger and how naughty of Michelle Bryan to do that to us! However with book 2 we jump straight back into the action we left which I was able to binge from one to the other straight away muhahahaa

Nonetheless, what I really enjoyed about book 2 was the character development that continued through the entire story arc, it was not a 'this is your main character; deal with it' situation. Whilst Jette was feisty and sarcastic throughout her methods and mindset changed as she learned new abilities and made new friends.

I also enjoyed the expanding cast in this series, I thought the new characters filled some of the holes from the first book.

It was another very enjoyable leap into the YA Fantasy world filled with magic, quips and a great A Team!

Now I am off to see if I can buy a bucket of water and some Sai....

I received an eARC of this book via the author. This doesn't affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.

Y’all I don’t know where to start! The Lost Magic by Michelle Bryan is the second book in her series Power of Fae, picking up right where The Lost Link left us hanging. If you have not read book one yet, there may be minor spoilers to it in this review. Read at your own risk! Starke and Jette were successful in rescuing Jill, the fire elemental from Queen Asha, but in their escape have landed into a world of nightmares, a world fans of the author already know (I won’t elaborate further because spoilers, but y’all it is epic!). The trio were attempting to find the air elemental, but their jump was hijacked, and now Jette is realizing that all the worlds need their help, not just Endova. The Lost Magic is a high-thrill adventure through the multiverse as Jette and her new friends search for Endova’s only hope, the elementals.

Jette is still a favorite of mine. She is sassy and snarky, but also loyal and protective. She has come a long way from the lost foster kid at the beginning of the series. Jette is learning to trust Starke, her new powers, and even realizing that though she didn’t ask for this fight, it is hers. I love that she has come so far and that she is becoming stronger because of it. Her feelings for Starke, on the other hand, she is in full denial there 😄 Jette has spent her life with a wall around her heart, protecting herself from being hurt, but Starke is finding the cracks in the wall and worming his way in, much to her chagrin.

Starke is, oh my, he’s perfect. I love this Fae prince. He is the opposite of his mother, the evil queen. He’s inherently good. He pushes all of Jette’s buttons, but usually has a good reason for doing so. He keeps her focused on their mission and even helps her let loose a time or two. Somewhere he gets a copy of a book of human idioms and throws those in to keep Jette on her toes. His inappropriate use of them (and sometimes accurate use) throws Jette off and brings a levity to an otherwise dark plot. The chemistry between Jette and Starke oozes off the pages, and I couldn’t help rooting for them.

Jette and her friends find themselves hopping from one nightmare world to the next in their search for the elementals. We get to know Jill, the fire elemental, during their journey. I like her. Despite the horrors she’s already faced at Asha’s hands, she keeps going and doesn’t shy away from what Starke tells her about the prism. The world-building is seamless. Bryan does a fantastic job of creating unique worlds and bridging them with her multiverse. So many potential stories could come from this and that excites me!

Overall I love The Lost Magic! I can’t wait to see where the author will take us next on the quest for the elementals. And Jette and Starke’s storyline is only going to get more interesting (and it’s already steamy!), trust me on this. But that ending….that was cruel. I need more asap please 😉 If you are a fan of urban fantasy with a dash of romance, I highly recommend you grab a copy.

Jette is in over her head. Instead of transporting them to where they can find the next elemental, Jette took them to some hellish place where cannibalism is the new normal. Forget magic, just making it through the night will take every ounce of strength she and Starke have. Jette's losing hope and if it wasn't for Starke's unwavering faith in her, she'd go mad. But as their enemies ensnare them in a deadly trap and Starke comes face-to-face with an unstoppable evil, can Jette pull him out of his grief and recommit to the cause or has she lost him to the insatiable monster that is blood magic forever?

The Lost Magic is a riveting magical fantasy I couldn't put down. From the first page, there's a much darker tone to this book than the first one. Jette is thrown into circumstances she's never faced and must grow up quickly. The battle between good and evil is ramped up and for me, the whole question of whether Jette, Starke, and the rest of the group will survive propelled me to keep reading. Emotionally jarring at times, my heart was in my throat as I read. The plot moves at a fast pace with plenty of twists I didn't see coming. The ending is a cliff-hanger but one that leads directly to the next book. If you're looking for an edge of your seat fantasy thriller, you've got to read The Lost Magic. I can't wait to read the next installment. Highly recommend!

Character development can be hard. It's so much easier to let a character live in the rut you first presented them as. But it's a beautiful thing when an author can develop a character while keeping their personality intact. Jette is snarky as always but is finally letting people in, accepting her destiny, and confronting some truths about herself. She's becoming this much more mature version of herself while keeping everything that made me love her in the first place. Her development could feel forced yet the way it's written feels very natural.

And world building! Or is it worlds building? It is a multiverse. The glimpses we get in to each of the four worlds we've been to be the end of this book are amazing. Each is so individual. While there are basic similarities, you can tell each world has been thoughtfully created. Then I go to the author's website and find there are already books about at least one of these worlds. Heck ya, I want to read that! The only other author I know if that can balance so many worlds in the same story line is Brandon Sanderson. I feel like this is a rare talent for authors to be able to pull something like this together and make it work. I am loving what is happening in this story and can't wait for more. September better come fast!

An extraordinary urban fantasy action adventure story

An extraordinary urban fantasy action adventure series. An exceptional cast of characters and a spectacular storyline. Jett A water elemental witch who is one of a group of elementals that is on a mission and an epic journey to save the multi-verse. Follow along as her and her companions search out the rest of the elementals that are needed to help save all the worlds. Stark is the Prince of Fai and is trying to help jet and the other elementals and citizens of the multi-verse defeat the evil queen. An extraordinarily action packed thrill ride through the multi-verse. You will come to like and care about the characters as they fight their way through many different versions of our world.
Think of the 80s TV show sliders. Toss in an urban fantasy cast of characters and you get the picture. A fun entertaining and spectacular read. You will not be disappointed, so check it out.

Just as good as the first book! And yes I finished this in just over a day and that's because it was that good. I'm not looking forward to the wait for the 3rd book, but at least it's only September. I really enjoyed the continuing of the story, you see characters grow and growing closer, and you meet lots of new characters and learn more about the universe Jette has discovered while new questions arise. Definitely worth a read!

This book!!
I’ll admit, I don’t normally enjoy first person books, but Ms. Bryan is one of a handful of authors who can make me forget about my preference. Everything about this book was fun and exciting. There’s SO MUCH action mixed with sweet moments that made me swoon a bit. I kinda love Starke.
The world building is absolutely incredible. And that ending! I can’t wait for the next book!

Fresh and exciting read!

I love this series! I don’t read this genre but I am so glad that I gave this a chance! The main characters and supporting characters are well written and easy to love-and hate! It was a non stop thrill ride! I read it in one sitting!

Definitely a Binge Worthy Series

This second novel in Michelle Bryan's Urban Fantasy, Power of Far series was just as wonderful as book one. Michelle keeps the steady fast pace she set in the first book, so much so that you can barely set this book down. I'm hanging on the edge of my seat to read book 3- but with mixed emotions, as I know it's the last installment.

Note: I received this book from the author and I voluntarily give this review, it is my honest opinion.

The Lost Magic is the second book in the Power of Fae series, it's a quick and enjoyable read that was full of magic.

The story picks up right where the first book, Lost Link, ended, with Jette, Starke, and Jill landing in another world. Things get pretty crazy from there, the introduction of new characters and different worlds kept the story pretty interesting. The story is kinda like a mix between fantasy and science fiction, you got fae and other supernaturals plus magic and then there are aliens, different worlds, and super high tech. It's a weird mix of genres that actually work in the storyline.

It's funny I forgot about Jettes personality, she's a little abrasive and her overall personality is strong but she grew in this book, she is more in contact with her emotions and she has become softer. She still has that strong personality that is filled with opinions but she has more sympathy for people and is more willing to let them in than she did in the first book. I feel all this is due to Starke, he is someone Jette looks to and has come to depend on. The two have gotten a lot closer and I love their interactions together, he is all happy go lucky, likes to laugh and have a maturity to him while she is all grumpy and whiny, but they work together. They have this adorable slow build romance and it's killing me that they haven't quite gotten their stuff together but I have faith that they will.

So much happened in The Lost Magic, world jumping, aliens, new friends, magic, romance, heartbreak, action and so much more. I highly enjoyed the story, I read the entire book in one sitting. The book ended on a serious cliffhanger and I can't wait to find out what happens in Lost Prince.

Like the first book in this series, it was a great read.

The characters are very well flushed out and read super easy. Their personalities don’t change while their mind set does so even though they now are ready to fight, we still have Jette sarcastic attitude to help us along the way.

I loved with they were in Bixby’s world. That was an awesome addition and it was so well written! I didn’t come across any wholes or plot points that didn’t make sense. It was great!

Now for my favourite bit. Starke. Mm he is a great character and I am so excited to read the next one. Yes! Bring on evil Starke, I am so ready. His character is awesome and is only going to get better!

Thank you Michelle for letting me read another of your awesome books, I love ARC reviewing them and I hope you’ll let me continue.

Book #2 in the latest series by Michelle!
What can I say, I get anxious when I know there is a new book release and can't wait to get my hands on it!
Once again I was reading through the night!
If you don't like being left in a cliffhanger, then I suggest you wait until you have your hands on the 3rd instalment!

There's a few twists you won't see coming and a major "No way!" Moment, for me anyway! If you haven't read any of her other works yet, this one will have you scrambling for them!

She transports you to a dangerous world, and leaves you wanting more at the end of this one!

This book is a second segment of the Power of Fae series. It's an easy fast-paced read that kept me up long into the night. It has this weird mix of sci-fi and fantasy with hi-tech and fae, and it works well with the storyline. I'm looking forward to reading more by Michelle Bryan.

Loved it, loved it, loved it.

Wow , what an amazing story that was. Non stop action. Jetta is such a kick ass character. The interplay with Starke is definitely not boring. A more rollercoaster ride of a fantasy book I find it hard to remember .
No spoilers just a wholehearted recommendation for a brilliant action packed book.
You won’t want to put the book down .

Good Read

This is a good story and I look forward to the next book. However, I gave it four out of five stars for typos and errors.
