On New Year's Day 1959, with Castro on the brink of overthrowing the Batista regime, the soon-to-be-deposed dictator looted the Cuban treasury and loaded it into four B26 Marauder bombers headed for Tampa.
Only three planes landed.
The fourth has never been found, and was rumored to contain three billion dollars in gold.
For diver, fisherman, and salvor Mac Travis, things are never as easy as they seem. While attempting to salvage his wrecked boat in the Bahamas, he stumbles onto the lost sixty-year-old plane, now encrusted in coral. But when the wrong person overhears that it may be the missing Marauder, containing billions in gold, history becomes Mac’s enemy. With a fortune at stake, the CIA and the Mob—the big losers in the Cuban Revolution—are tipped off the wreck has been found. With a chance to recover their losses, the fight begins, leaving Mac as a pawn in a larger game—one that could cost him the life of a dear friend.
Filled with boating, diving, and intrigue, the treasure hunt begins.
Here's the deal. If you have not been reading the entire series or even just the last several books in the series, you will miss out on a lot of the nuances regarding various characters, but the story itself hangs together beautifully all by itself. Set at the beginning of our current pandemic, good guys and bad guys alike have to deal with the closing down of everything as panic sets in among governments and movements are severely stifled. Nonetheless, there are some boats out and about and seeking treasure, involving Cuba and other island nations, the Mafia, the CIA, plus Mac and Mel and friends. Plus--BONUS!--we finally learn Pamela's story! Do get a copy for yourself and read it! And if this is your first Steven Becker book, have fun going back later and finding how it all started.
Steven Becker is as good as Clive Cussler and that is saying a lot. Mac Travis is like Indiana Jones of the ocean. You will love Mac Travis.Searching for treasure, thrill a minute action and wonderful characters that are very realistic make this book a sure winner. Steve's writing puts you in the book like you were one of his characters. The picture he paints in your mind is wonderful. Once you start Woods Hope you will not want to stop.
Mac never does anything the easy way. He is never lucky, if bad things can happen they will. If it has Tru in it bad things will happen. It all happens in this book to make an exciting episode of Florida pirates and CIA involvement and a little virus to make a great story. Plenty of action, suspense, and good old story telling. Did I mention history as well.
I love all of the characters in this series. There could be a book wrote about each one, but they are great together. I really enjoyed the tie in to Wayne Stinnett’s character. Keep writing and I will keep reading. Patiently waiting the next book!
This book was full of adventure like all of Steven Becker's books. I highly recommend it. Read all of his books and you will never be disappointed!
I love Steven Becker's books. Always full of adventure and moments when you just can't put the book down and this one is no exception. A great read. Thank you Steven Becker!
TREASURE/GOLD/CIA/MOB/FLORIDA KEYS/QUIRKY FRIENDS and ADVENTURE all blend together in this entertaining storyline. Everyone wants in on the action… Steven Becker weaves a great tale and the Chirp narrator, Paul McSorley, makes the story come to life. If you enjoy the Florida Keys and an action storyline, this one’s for you! RECOMMENDED
Another great Mac Travis adventure with an excellent location and great realistic characters. A treasure hunt with plenty of action and lots of intrigue. Very enjoyable story and hard to put down. Highly recommended!
Another excellent Mac Travis adventure with gangsters and the CIA mixed in. The ending of Lucino and the deal with Taggert were a surprise test at the end of the book
Once again Steven Becker delivers with a great storyline! I always yearn to be in the Keys after reading one of his books! His descriptions are so realistic that you want to go there!
Once again when you think there are no more hero's Mac mel Pamela triangle end and pip show up and show us how it's done.from costa Rica pur a vida stay safe I this USA ..
Can't help but like the characters and the way they interact with each other. They are portrayed consistently from book to book and are easy to identify with. This book's plot was well developed and the ending was refreshingly clean and efficient.
Mac Travis proves to be as actively involved in dangerous water as always. He and Mel seem to uproot danger and treasure wherever they dive. Steven Becker has spun another tale with drama, laughter, action and comradeship.
Moments of truth can be bittersweet for Mac Travis. Mac and Tru find themselves in another big mess only this time it involves several lives. This adventure keeps you on the edge!
Mac and Mel head the Bahamas to his sunken boat, to ee if it is salvageable. He comes across a downed plane, which they eventually identify as a B26 that is rumored to be loaded with gold. They also have the Bahamian officials, a crooked CIA agent and a gangster to outwit.
I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that he never stops writing. His books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
Not a bad book although it seems like the same two people get kidnapped every book, cause problems and find their way out of it. Can't go wrong with boats and gold!!
Excellent! Can't wait to read Wood's Honor. I just wish I could proofread them before publication to take all those annoying little errors out of them.
Fast moving as always. ?looks like another bad guy is in the future. Great read. Best to read these in order. The. Author reverts back to previous stories.
I needed to fly way somewhere in my mind and reading these does it. They’re not as fun as some other series but they are quite enjoyable. Lots of action. Logical. And the protagonist is doable.
Liked it all. Did not disappoint. Looking forward to book twelve. Always like Mac Travis stories. Haven’t been disappointed in even one yet. Don’t expect I ever will be.
